This should be one of the best matchups of the playoffs now that Lafayette is finding the back of the net more often.

www.theadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070208/SPORTS/702080333/1006/SPORTSLHS flies past Airline Lafayette earns soccer rematch with rival Carencro Eric Narcisse enarcisse@theadvertiser.com Behind a dominating first half, the Lafayette High Mighty Lions boys soccer team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Airline during Wednesday's Division I regional playoff game held at Moore Park. "We played really well tonight, especially in the first half," Lions goalkeeper Daniel Johnson said. "In the second half, we just did what we had to do to get the job done." The Lions, who will face the defending state champion Carencro Bears in the Division I quarterfinals, outshot Airline 15-3, while their defense turned in a sensational performance. "I really felt like we kept pressure on them defensively," said Johnson, who finished the game with two saves. "The defense played really well." Caleb Sutter put the Lions on the board early in the first half, when he perfectly placed a header over Airline's goalkeeper's head for a 1-0 lead. Sutter's goal was set up by a nice cross pass from Brett Hernandez. "That was a great ball from Brett," Sutter said. "It was so perfect that all I had to do was put it away." Martin Cheramie extended the Lions' lead to 2-0 moments later, when he received a pass from Coert Donohue, spun to his left, then blasted a shot over the goalkeeper's head into the net. Jared Hanson scored the third and final goal for the Lions late in the first half to give LHS a 3-0 lead. "That was a dominating first half," Hanson said. "I'm not surprised by how well we played, because that's how we're supposed to play. That's how we have to play if we want to continue to move on in the playoffs." Carencro 4, Woodlawn 1 The Division I defending state champion Carencro Bears advanced to the quarterfinals on Wednesday night, when they defeated Woodlawn 4-1 in the regional round. Carencro's Scott Rogers scored two of the Bears' four goals, while Corey Hebert and Chase Talley scored the other two. Hebert and Trevor Thomas each recorded assists in the victory for the Bears, who will next face district rival Lafayette High in the quarterfinals. The Bears outshot Woodlawn 16-10 and goalkeeper Steven Rosser recorded seven saves.

hdkiga were the heck you been. i haven't had anyone to debate with all year!! no one has stepped up and taken you or mcsruffs place, lol. i wish the top half of the quarters was set up different, i wish the two dist three teams were playing the dist 9 teams instead of both dist. playing teams in their district. one thing is certain a dist 3 or 9 team will be in the finals again. what does that make something like 12 years in a row dist 3 or 9 will have a team playing for the title. if acadiana wins tonight 6 of the 8 teams will be from dist 3 and 9, some things never change.

After playing and tieing both teams in the Showcase, I think Lafayette is the better team. Carencro couldn't score against our first string and only tied the game against our second string. Lafayette was much more skilled and physical than Carencro. I pick Lafayette to move on to the semis. But let's not count BM out of the semis just yet. Rivalry is a big factor when BM/Jesuit meet. It's anybodys game!

Soccer01 I totally agree Lafayette was more impressive against BM than Carencro. Lafayette scored on BM's second string goalie, who misplayed an easily played ball. BM has made some changes in the defensive lineup that I think will give Jesuit problems scoring. It should be a classic game between BM and Jesuit.

How can you predict a winner between Lafayette and Carencro based on what they did against Brother Martin. No offense, but Brother Martin has nothing to do with this match up. Nor does any other team that Cro or Laffy has faced this season. The only thing that matters is how they performed when they faced each other and how much they have progressed since that time. Obviously Carencro is 2 for 2 against them this year in district so they are the favorites, but Lafayette is starting to find the net. Martan might have been the spark they needed so its definately going to be a great game. But you cant say Lafayette is going to win cause they looked better against Brother Matin. That's the stupidest thing i ever heard.

Magnet lost last year in the first round playoffs to Carencro (PKs) and this year to Lafayette in the first round (4 OT's). Both teams beat us so I'm not bias either way and wish them both good luck. My only complaint is that I won't get to see the game. Good luck to both teams, you have excellent programs! I wouldn't mind seeing the winner of this game take it all, especially now that the NW LA teams are out.

I can't tell you whos going to win. It's playoffs... lafayette has martin back... father and son are coaching against each other. its always too hard to say whos going to win.
but for giggles... Cro 2 Lafayette 0

I think it will be 1-0 Lafayette. LHS is finally playing well and Cro is... well just playing. Each game between the two has been close. I just don't think Cro is playing their best ball game right now. Maybe it has something to do with a winning season.

FUTBOLFAN34 WHAT'S UP? I think you're uptight because you know whoever wins out of BM and Jesuit will be in the finals representing the top half of the bracket. I made an observation on the games BM played against Laffy and Carencro so chill out!!

How much better can Cro play??? Undefeated in arguably the best D-I district in the state. They domimated their first 2 opponents in the playoffs as well. I do think that Lafayette is playing better now and scoring more than they have been. Should be a very exciting, intense soccer game!

Its hard to beat a team 3 times in a row, i think these teams are evenly matched as well, if i were lafayette id be sick of losing to cro, but carencro pulls games out better then LHS... i cant even pick whose going to win, i hope LHS but i dont know.

Well said...LHS has nothing to lose. They have lost both times so they will come out fired up. Cro, on the other hand, has everything to lose: defending state champs, undefeated dist. champs. Their season, at least to them, will mean nothing if they don't beat Laffy. Defending state champs have so much pressure on them because they are expected by their fans and themselves to get back to the finals. You might as well take away their district title if they lose this one. They will come out shaky, I think, because all of this will be in the back of their minds. Laffy 2-1 (OT)

Yall are right this is probably the toughest game to pick throughout the entire playoffs, but i'll give it a shot. I think this is going to be a high scoring game. Martan is going to more than likely have the game of his career going to town on Cro's outside backs. I think Cro is going to come at them very aggressively attacking wise. I know the last couple of games have both been 1 0, but both times Cro got on top they went into a defensive mindset. Not this time. Call me crazy but im going with 3-2 Carencro.
