Are the rules the same in the playoffs as they are in the regular season.
And did two Lee players get red carded in their last match?

Soft or not, player still has to sit out the next match correct? wrong... There is no written rule that states a player MUST sit out for the next match.

Louisiana needs to reconsider its policy concerning red cards, especially hard reds for SFP/VC.
In Maryland, a hard red will disqualify you from the remainder of that match and the following match. A soft red will disqualify you from that match itself. I think that's fair.
We almost all expect that a red-carded player cannot participate in the next match. Let's get with the program, Louisiana.

I don't mind the way it is. It allows the coach to access what happen and imply his punishment. Maybe the red was questionable, I mean who knows. Most schools will take their own action against the player for the red.

Are you from Maryland. If so then why are you even participating on these boards. Louisiana is last in everything. Red cards will be the same. If a new rule is created about red cards, then louisiana will be the last state to enforce it. BUT i agree the rules are off kilter when it comes to red cards

i agree with putmeincoach, some straight reds (believe it or not) are not worthy of being disqualified for the next match. it should be up to the coaches about punishment. and mistlek this is louisiana not maryland, dont like it? sorry, we do

Okay....I grew up here, does that count? I can see your points of view pertaining to the "not all red cards are equal" statement. This is part of the reason why the NFHS has instituted the "soft red" and allow a team to not play down a man for the remainder of the match. Maybe for DOGSO-F and DOGSO-H I can see there not being an extra game tacked on, but for SFP/VC/S there's no way to justify it. When in Louisiana, do as the Louisianians

Our neighbors in Alabama have this take on Red cards:
Player Conduct Rule The penalties for red card violations fall under this rule. Red Card Violations (a) Any player who receives a red card will receive a warning or reprimand from the AHSSA. (b) Any Player who receives a second red card will be ineligible for the next game his/her school plays. (c) Any player who receives a third red card will be ineligible for the remainder of that season. Note: A yellow or yellow-red card (also called a soft red card) violation does not apply to the Player Conduct Rule. From Item 7 of the Soccer section of the 2004 AHSSA Spring Sports Book page 80

Thanks to everyone who responded with...this is Louisiana...and...certain soft yellow do not deserve a suspension...
As the coach involved, I will not sit my kids for a match when both kids got yellows for delaying the match, walking instead of running out of the 10 yd area (always a subjective decision) and for good hard play. Both kids have had much harder hits and not been carded.
As I always tell my kids...the officials are always right...we just adjust to their calling.
And finally, your point on NHSF rules is very valid. I wanted to say the same thing last night and decided it was not my place. However, I disagree with LA getting with the other states. Why not have the other states come to our standard...always remember, this is not FIFA, this is LOUISIANA HIGH SCHOOL athletics!
Good Luck to everyone still in.

rather than critcize LHSAA, why not criticize the NFHS for failing to mandate this? we follow the laws, excuse me, rules of high school soccer as mandated by the NFHS. Maybe we should be criticizing Maryland for mandating a harsher punishment than NFHS calls for.
