Hm.
1) media coverage, or rather, lack there of
2) perceived as slow pace by those not in the know
3) too 'low scoring'
What else am I forgetting?

well, you skirted around it. Two and three can be summed up in one word: "boring."
Many Americans feel that soccer is just boring to watch. They just don't understand or see the beauty of the game.
Also, soccer isn't exactly made for American television, which is driven by commercials and ratings. So, soccer doesn't get the exposure that it does over there. I think the overall national interest in soccer is climbing in the nation, but it will never be as strong as it is in Europe.
But, I wouldn't go around calling soccer a women's sport in the USA. If my memory is correct, our men's national team advanced just as far as yours did in the last World Cup.
Soccer will never be as popular as football in the states. I guess the American "Super Bowl" for soccer is the MLS championship which nobody cares about. Everybody cares about the Superbowl.

hmm, too low scoring, than how can they watch a american football game where the score is 21-14 or something like that which is equivilant to a score of 3-2 in soccer. with all the commercials in an american football game how can they even stomach it. but how can you expect the game to be that popular when even some american youth soccer players don't watch soccer on tv because it is "boring". hmm, i just don't see how they can think that, but then again i think a game that ends up 0-0 can be a good game, so i guess that my mindset is a bit different from everyone else's, sure goals are nice but i can find action in a game without them.
