I don't know the details but Dave Montreuil, a long time referee from the New Orleans area died in some type of four wheeler accident Saturday, Dec. 2nd.
I'm sure if you have ever played rec, high school or college soccer and are from the New Orleans area Dave refereed you at some point in your career. He refereed at the Region three youth tournaments for many years and was an active member of the college referee association here in Louisiana. In addition to youth and college Dave regularly worked the amateur games at Lafreniere.

David's referee career, without a doubt, touched every youth player in the southeast La area. His passing should remind all of us that life is precious and short. As a fellow referee and a friend of Dave's, this has upset me greatly. I had to remind my family today how much they all mean to me. It can all end so suddenly.

Dave was a good guy and most helpful to me especially at the College level. He was tireless in his efforts to improve referees in the New Orleans area. I know the many referees that he transported to regional tournaments appreciated his service to the sport. He will be missed by all that knew him. May God bless his loved ones during this sad time.

What a sad day for the local soccer community. Dave's enthusiasm for soccer and his passionate commitment to the game was always impressive. He surely leaves behind not only his wife and daughters but a soccer community that seems a little smaller with his passing. God's speed, Dave.
