U.S. Ranked 9th in World Soccer Wed Aug 14,11:45 AM ET
CHICAGO (AP) - U.S. soccer reached another milestone Wednesday when it was voted into the top 10 of the FIFA world rankings for the first time ever. The latest rankings from the world soccer governing organization had the United States tied for ninth with Italy, two positions higher than before the World Cup, where it made the quarter-finals, losing 1-0 to eventual runner-up Germany. "There's no question that this recognition is representative of the outstanding effort of our team in 2002, where we were able to get the results on the field in winning the Gold Cup and advancing to the final eight at the World Cup," coach Bruce Arena said. "Hopefully this will serve as another sign of the respect we've been able to bring to U.S. soccer and the American players playing both in Europe and Major League Soccer." World Cup winner Brazil remains No. 1 in the world, followed by South American rival Argentina, which was eliminated in the first round of the World Cup.

America won't win anything until our players are more comfortable on the ball. We're closer to England in terms of setup than any other country and you haven't seen them winning anything lately. We're just to organized to early and the players ball skills just don't develop properly. Things are improving but we still aren't there yet.

you don't get a trophy for qualifying...only for winning...and they can qualify...not just win

we will qualify and go to the quarters or maybe if we get lucky to the semis like the last world cup, but i dont see the US winning a world cup for A LOOOONG TIME. Esp with the talent coming out of brazil(adriano, ronaldinho) and portugal(Christiano Ronaldo, Deco) and england as well. Ill still be rootin for the US, no doubt about that
