According to the Sunday Advertiser, page 2B:
Major League Soccer will make its first appearance in Lafayette as the Columbus Crew and the Real Salt Lake meet in an exhibition contest at the University of Louisiana's Soccer Complex on Saturday, March 11th at 7 p.m.
Real Salt Lake will bring Mandeville native Jason Kreis to the contest. Kreis is the all-time leader in goals scored in MLS history. He spent most of his 10 year career with the Dallas Burn before being traded to Real last season.
The Columbus Crew's roster is filled with younger players, including Jason Garey. Garey is a former St. Amant standout who captured the 2005 National Championship at Maryland. Garey was also the 2005 Herman Trophy winner, which is the equivilent to the Heisman Trophy.
The event is being sponsored by Blue Sports Entertainment and the Cajun Soccer Club. For ticket information, call 261-KICK or the LYSA soccer office.
