Theo Walcott by all accounts is fantastic player at the tender age of 17 years old. He has scored some fantastic goals in the league championship and has phenominal speed. His admission to England's World Cup Team has made for healthy topics of discussion not only on this forum but throughout the world of football. Even though he is unproven, he has brought a new twist to this World Cup and has many opposition coaches scrambling to find any piece of game film on him. If you have never lived or been to the british isles our culture is swarmed by bigger mosquito's than here called the tabloid press. They are not investigative reporters, but speculate and twist and turn every word you say. For the next 5 weeks, the british tabloids will be all over Theo Walcott and his exposure will turn him to a national phenom. Not bad for a 17 year old kid. His exposure, appearances, and endorsements will give him mega star status in Britain. I'm not saying that Sven is trying to exploit the kid. However, knowing how damaging the press can be in Britain I think the press will be less focused on the senior internationals on the team. This would surely be a less stressful build up to the World Cup for England. I think the team can tune all their attentions to football rather than Beckham strutting naked on the beach with some bird called Sally from Essex. Trust me, the british press are ruthless. What are some of your takes on this? What do you think? (especially you exiles.)

On the back of that, do you think this is a media coup by Sven, in order to take the press' attention away from the rest of the players in order for the senior pros in the twilight of their career to blossom?
Mourinho's proved that it works with Chelsea. With him being in the spotlight, some of the pressure has been removed away from his players.
It would be funny if opposition teams did loads of homework and then feared Walcott, and then on match day find that he's not even gonna play. Its a possibility.

Of course it is. We need to be realistic. Theo is going to be a star in the game. But I don't think any coach would throw a kid into this fury with no experience. O.K. Theo is alright with it now, but how is he going to feel and handle it all when he is there and the pressure is on. I don't think the coaches would leave the kid out there to dry. He will be brought in purely for experience, exposure, and to clean a few boots. We might even see him start a few games for Arsenal next year.

Walcott has a good 5 world cups in his career if he doesnt slide off the map in England. This one he will be on the bench, and perhaps play the end of group games if England is up by 2 or 3.

and probably start against trinidad and tobago and if there are injuries then he will knock a couple in the back of the net i guarentee it. I would go down to ladbrooks and make a bet for him to score

I agree with d1d5fan.
Joe Cole looks to me the likely option of being the strike partner with Couch if Owen can't go. Owen looks like he may be able to play, but whether he will be %100 by the first game is another question.
Walcott may get a look in a tune up game, but I don't expect him to get any playing time even though Rooney is a lame duck and Owen still has a way to go in his rehab.

Im not convinced that Rooney, Owen or Crouch can complete 90 minutes.
Walcott surely must be used in the last 5-15 minutes of games. Cole, Gerrard, Lampard.....any of them behind the front man is top notch.

LOL that would be funny.. Starting strikers for England, Crouch, a 6'7 giant of a man, with Walcott, a 17 y/o prodigy. Not the most typical partnership to say the least, hahaha
