well congrats on that. but still many teams make the playoffs. only 6 in 2 conferences make it in ours. i mean that makes making the playoffs a big deal

Ya'll are having a very good debate about Private and Public school soccer program. I am interested on seeing if RO & Miss. private schools versus the area public schools can actually get together and play each other. Not sure if the La. High School Assoc. will let this happen since it would have to be a rec. team because HS coaches can not coach other than during the season (as I understand it). And LHS system teams can not play MSP system teams to my knowledge. It would be great and if ya'll get it working make sure the newspaper reports the time and dates and I will be there to see it. Should be fund. SF will be hard to beat, unless some Shreveport teams (Caddo Magnet esp.) comes and I have no idea how good the Miss. private teams are, but I bet they are pretty good as well. GOOD LUCK - GREAT IDEA - if it happens, play hard - play clean - no trash talking and playing -represent your school well.

Spanky - don't get down on River Oaks so much. Every High School (and college as well) have high points and low points. Kids are kids, things will effect them more than professionals - like girl or boy problems, grades, etc. River Oaks could not have gone from a good team to a bad team overnight. They may just be playing better competition or going thru a lack of trust in each other. Not sure if their soccer season is over, but just because it may be, and a championship was not won, does not mean they have a bad team. Look at WM and Neville football - they both had really good teams, just not good enough to win he State Championship.

I guess it depends on the attitude of the best player. For example, one of the best player if not the best player in our part of the state is Walt Smith of Neville. Walt is very capable of dominating the game with his skills, which he sometimes does. But Walt most valuable part of his game is trying to make everyone else around him better. He seems to know that one person can not beat 11, so the best way for his team to win is to get the other 10 players on his team to play better. They can not improve if he just dominates the ball all the time and they feel like it is their job to just play defense and get him the ball. Walt will pass it to the best and the worst player on the field without regard to their "status". This is what the truly great players do! Granted, if it is in a critical part of the game, he may try to do more himself, but not for the majority part of the game. If the so called best player on RO, is just trying to convice everyone to get him the ball and play defense, then I would say - he may be the most talented player on the team, but he is not the BEST. No one likes to be downgraded or be treated like they are just a servant to another person. Perhaps, this is the reason the best player on RO feels everyone hates him - it may not be for his talent, but for his attitude. Perhaps, if the best player had tried to lead the team to get better at all positions, instead of trying to lead the team in goals - then maybe RO would have improved instead of getting worse as you say. BOTTOM LINE: THE BEST PLAYER ON ANY TEAM HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO THE OTHER PLAYERS ON THE TEAM, NOT VICE VERSUS.

well if you are saying that the best player is hated for those reasons, then you probably have the wrong reasons. 1st off, he didnt lead the team in goals and didnt try to. he probably lead the team in assists so that throws that out the window. 2nd, he made most players around him better. when the ball went thru him, great things happened. so seeing this, he would say, "hey look, if this happened, why dont we try this more" so saying if the ball went thru him, it would happen again. so if having a team 1st individual attitude gets him hated. its like saying go and play for yourself. then the rest of the mediocre players go and talk about how they deserve to make this honor and how much greater of a player this player is, when they play way out of position and lose the ball. its pretty bad when it will get ro beat. becuz these players see those attacking runs made by outside backs but they dont play there. so therefore leave a huge hole in the middle of the field. but why should the team hate the kid that trys 2 make his team better? thats the $100,000 question. Then I do not understand the reason why the 15 or so other players hate him. Normally, just normally not always, the reasons I gave are ligit - but it sounds like to me that RO has a huge problem with all but one of it's players. Very unusual, but possible.

Soccer High makes a good point. Self reflection and discussing it with your coach and teamates are probably better solutions than taking to some old soccer fan.

River Oaks should keep their team problems within the team. Talk about them there and work them out there. They shouldn't do it on some message board. Each player on that team owes every one of their teammates AT LEAST that much respect.
