Bolton 2, Tioga 1
It was a hard fought game, as Tioga came out looking for the win. Bolton's #9 (CM) Melissa Shaw scored early in the first half and maintained the 1-0 lead til the half.
With less than 20 minutes in the second half, #22 (RM) Heather Lamartiniere made it 2-0, with a quick shot from a free kick. A little controversy there, but it was straightened out. With about 14 minutes left, Tioga's Tomonica McQueen scored on a free kick, a nice long high ball to the top right corner of the net. This put Tioga back in the game, and they pushed hard to even the score, but it wasn't to be; Bolton stays on top to win 2-1.

ASH over Pineville 3-2, in a hard fought game. Lindsey Pharis started the scoring on an open net when the Pineville keeper came out of the box and missed a kick. Laura Ford tied it for PHS in the first half. Brook Farace put ASH up 2-1 with a nice high shot from the center about 20 yards out. PHS' Ford tied the score late in the second half. Rachel Miller put ASH up for good with about 10 minutes left. Anne McNeal made some great saves as Pineville attacked hard in the last ten minutes, and again in the final two mintues that lasted another ten. ASH locks the district 3 title, with games against Bolton(Thurs, Jan. 27) and Tioga(Mon, Jan 31) remaining. Pineville looks to be peaking at the right time and their playoff road is easier than ASH's.

1/27/05
ASH 1-Bolton 0
Hard fought game that was mostly defense. Rachel Miller scored the lone goal early on a penalty kick for a handball in the box, then scoring was shut down. Great games by both goalies.

I agree, this was a great game. It was a real nail biter at times. Bolton probably played better in this game than almost all of their other district games, except for maybe a game against Tioga. Some plays were created in this game; unfortunately no one capitalized on them, but still an enjoyable game.

Standings until 1/31 games:
ASH 8-0 Pineville 5-3 Bolton 3-5 Tioga 0-8
1/31 games: ASH at Tioga 7pm Bolton v. Pineville(? location)
Based on gigantic 32 team Div II playoff bracket, looks like ASH, Pineville and Bolton will be in playoffs, and maybe even Tioga, if they beat ASH Monday.

In a fantastic night for soccer, cold and drizzling, ASH 5-Tioga 0. Lindsey Pharis opened the scoring about 5 minutes in, followed by an Alex Engelsman goal. ASH up 2-0 at half. Rachel Miller had the 3rd goal, followed by a Lindsey Pharis penalty kick. Heather Sherrill got the final goal. Tioga's goalie made some magnificent saves, and Anne McNeal had several nice saves for ASH.
A&P, how about the Bolton v. Pineville game?

Pineville 2?- Bolton 0. It was a sloppy, drizzly, cold mess. Pineville scored late in the first half with a handball on the play....... Pineville 1. Pineville had a legit score in the second half, to make it 2-0. Bolton had some good through passes to the front and yet again, no one could finish. The officiating was lacking. Bolton was getting pretty roughed up, and should have had quite a few free kicks coming to them, but that didn't happen. Pineville wins 2-0. Bolton's defense, and midfield worked hard, and played a fair game of possession, but couldn't hold it together and finish up front.

Playoffs: ASH 9-McKinley 1. McKinley scores first on a direct penalty kick, then Lindsey Pharis scores a hat trick in the first half. Rachel Miller adds one, then Pharis knocks in another before half. ASH up 5-1 at half. Rachel Miller scores again in the second half, followed by Heather Sherrill. Then Pharis drops in two more for a total of 6 goals. ASH goes to Dutchtown for the second round, despite being on the top half of the bracket. S. Terrebonne forfeits, then they declare it a bye, so D-Town gets a home game? I'm calling BS on that, but who can fight the LHSAA?
