Who got easy 1st round games and who will have the toughest. I think Comeaux might have the easiest thru the regional round. LHS/ST. Amant - BRHS/Acadiana - Fontainebleau/Dominican - St. Joseph's/Barbe rank as the toughest in the first round.

I disagree that FHS will have trouble with Dominican or that LHS will have trouble with St. Amant. Might not be blow out games, but at least 2-3 point differnce and maybe evena shut out for LHS over St. Amant

I'd be surprised if Mandeville doesn't make it to the finals. Other than Lafayette, it seems like they have a pretty easy way through. here's what I think about the first round of Division One matches:
1. Byrd gets a 'bye' and will get plenty of much needed rest for their tough second round match against Barbe or St. Joseph's
2. St. Josephs/Barbe- This will be a great game played down to the wire (maybe even PKs). I think Barbe will take this one, seeing that they are in one of the toughest districts in Division One.
3. St. Amant/Lafayette- St. Amant won't have the luxury of playing this quality opponent in "The Pit". Lafayette will win this one by two.
4. Captain Shreve/Ruston- Ruston has had a pretty solid season, with a great semifinal appearance at Captain Shreve's Gator Cup. Shreve could come away with a victory if their forwards are able to create opportunities, but I think Ruston wins by one.
5. West Jefferson/Hahnville- Hahnville may run away with this one, seeing that West Jefferson plays in a fairly easy district.
6. Slidell/Chapelle- Chapelle has the unfortunate luck of being in the same district as Mt. Carmel and Dominican. I think Chapelle takes this one in overtime.
7. Terrebone/Andrew Jackson- Andrew Jackson's district is far too easy. Terrebone will win this by two or three.
8. Archbishop Blenk/Mandeville- Mandeville is too good for Blenk. This will be a high scoring affair on Mandeville's part, but I hope not too high.
9. Natchitoches Central/West Monoe- I think both teams are on the same level, but I have a feeling West Monroe will get by with a 1-0 victory. I'd love to see Natchitoches advance though.
10. Woodlawn/Comeaux- Comeaux is a great team, and they'll win this one big. They have a lot to prove in these playoffs. They almost won a tough district three, and are in the playoffs after an absence last year.
11. Acadiana/Baton Rouge- Baton Rouge peaked at the right time. They'll beat Acadiana comfortably by two goals.
12. Ouachita/Caddo Magnet- Will Caddo be able to rebound after losing the district title for the first time since 2000? They'll be able to win this game fairly easily, but will most likely face a Tough Baton Rouge team in the next round.
13. Dominican/Fontainebleau- Nationally ranked Fontainebleau will come away with the victory, but could Dominican (a once powerhouse) provide a real test to the Louisiana number one.
14. Central Lafourche/Grace King- Grace King may win their district, but it never seems to be much of a test. Central Lafourche will come into Grace King and win this one by three.
15. Northshore/Mt. Carmel- Mt. Carmel is by far one of the best girls soccer programs in the state. They'll win this one big, but I can't wait for the quarterfinals, when they meet Fontainebleau.
16. Bonnabel/Destrehan- Destrehan will win this one by a few goals. They've been getting stronger as the year progressed.

Without knowing firsthand the skill level of Barbe, I would say the St. Joe's/ Barbe game will be closer than inticipated. St. Joe's only graduated one senior last year, so the rest of their varsity still remembers their PK loss to Barbe in last year's 1st round. Both teams will come out hard, but the one who wants it more will advance to Byrd.

Lafayette will blow out St. Amant - as they did in the Holiday Classic when the game meant very little - Acadiana and BRHS too close to call - Acadiana's got some talent but too much team adversity. Barbe beats St. Joe's.

Hey D3FANATIC, there's a big world outside of Lafayette There is even soccer played in other parts of the state. I think home town pride is clouding your vision. You didn't mention your pick in the 4th game involving your district.... COMEAUX vs WOODLAWN Baton Rouge walks over Acadiana. St Joseph and Barbe go the PK route with St. Joe prevailing. St. Amant exposes a Irish Fro in Lafayette's armour in a closer game than most figure.

…will help make their team come out victoriously in the playoffs! I don't predict, I know by experience that those players, with any sense of work ethic in them, will make their parents, school, team and coach win in a heartbeat. The team that had faith in their coaches' philosophy, who remained loyal to the true values of this sport, and who gave this game their all, during the entire season, without bickering, without second guessing their coaches at any time will win, no matter what, even if only in their hearts... You see, when a team and the coaches work together with the needed help of the parents to attain and form a unit, they become unbreakable, as a marble-hard bunch of matches put together. These matches could be broken so easily, one by one in a blink of an eye; and that is precisely what is happening to those teams who have created any trace of dissension in a malicious maneuver to put doubt in their teams' minds. Teams are doomed to fail, when only a handful ill-intended individuals destabilize their team and coach in the least of the ways; voluntarily, or even involuntarily by some misacquired mannerism over the years. Parents and players, you must remember that it is never too late to forgive and to mend; because time is running out...notwithstanding. Just remember that good work ethic and sacrifice pay off!! I was so glad to hear a parent from Comeaux high school tell me, that at the beginning of season, parents were told to leave Head Coach Osmond Ogali coach successfully and not to intervene at all in his decisions... That is precisely the key to success: parents should stay out of the coaching process. I always laugh when my greatest mentor reminds me that the best and easiest team to coach is a team of orphans; although, I must admit, I would rather have my players nurtured by the warmth and sound guidance of their dedicated and loving parents any time! Keep in mind that a marble-hard bunch of matches can light up any time, in a "Bengal" fire that will be overpower and subdue any fierce opponent in the playoffs. Good luck to all, and remember it is never too late to straighten your act. Put your trust in your coach, your coach put HIS TRUST in you a long time ago! So long, Rainbowcycle!

Interesting comment RIVERS2 considering that BRHS has only played 4 games out of district and no one is willing to talk about who they played or lost to. I believe the Acadiana/BRHS game will be decided by 1 goal. Both teams have been playing well of late. LHS will beat St Amant because of there overall team speed. Barbe can't score on above average defenses and I believe St. Joes's will get at least 1 goal from Hitt. Comeaux should beat Woodlawn by at least 3 goals.

You'd almost have to believe that whoever beat BRHS must be an out of state team or surely someone would be bragging on it via this medium. BRHS dismantled an excellent Bishop Sullivan team last week 8-1. Sullivan won their district and is ranked # 7 in Div. II. Having been on the losing end twice to BRHS, HEAR THIS..... They come to play.

This is a one game season for all teams entering the playoffs. There is no guarantee whatsoever. I wish everyone the best of luck. I am assuming from the emails that BRHS is the best unknown team in the state.

Remember that at this level of competition, soccer becomes a mental game...more than anything else. Defense wins games : Defenders and midfiledders, including keepers will win games by staying concentrated, by keeping their marks inn check constantly, by keeping balance, shape and depth, and of course by denying the other teams scoring...opportunities. Offense wins games: Attackers with the help of offensive mids will take advantage of the other team's mental breakdowns on defense...and exploit any scoring oppportunity. It will all come down to how well the players will have learned from their regular season mistakes and if they won't allow their past nemesis endlist list to repeat itself...in the playoffs. Hopefully they got rid of all the kinks in their preparation for the playoffs. At this level, one mistake will translate in a goal and perhaps the game... One corner kick set up break down will cause a heading score and perhaps the game... One wall set up mistake and a fre kick will lodge the ball in the upper ninety and will cost the game... It is all a mental game at this level... My son recently mentioned to me that soccer players are very intelligent students....I agree with him their are brain multitask oriented and make decisions on their own, without coaches tinkling their options from the press box. May the most intelligent team remain on top of their game and their nerves... to win the right to advance to even more mental toughness required games. The most intelligently lead teams will meet for the state championship! Did Bora Milutinovitch speak of a chess game?! So long, Rainbowcycle

DEAR D3FANATIC,
I'd suggest you read your own press (as well as mine). Never once did I say Woodlawn would beat Comeaux, I did say they would show up and fight till the end which they did in a losing effort.
Although you failed to point out that I reported that the St. Amant/ Lafayette would be closer than anyone thinks. The blow-out there never took place and 1-0 was about as close as it gets.
Don't get me wrong, Fanatic,D-3 has good teams and D-4 played your best two last night in Lafayette. Tonight D-3 plays D-4's two best in Baton Rouge.

I stand corrected on the St. Amant / LHS game. I guess St. Amant turned their end of season emotion towards playing an outstanding game in the playoffs. Congradulations to them on what sounds like a very good game.
Rivers2, I couldn't have said it better myself, tonight is dist-4's night!!

The best in Baton Rouge proved just that last night www.2theadvocate.com/stories/020505/pre_prep2001.shtmlno article for St. Joe's topping Barbe 3-0, but I'll give the best summary I can: Both teams came out ready to play in what looked to be a fairly even matchup early on. Both gained a few shots on goal, and the ref's called a tight, consistent game. MIdway through the first half, Hitt's hard shot bounce off (what some would call the inside of ) the goal post, and St Joe's bench, players, and fans errupted in cheers, only to find that the ref's had not called it a goal. SJA's excitement was shortly revivied around the 30th minute when Hitt put in the first goal over the head of Barbe's shocked goalie. St. Joe's narrowly escaped a few shanked breakaways, and Sja's senior keeper, Robison, easily eliminted anything else that came her way. Going into the half at 1-0, both teams came out strong. Barbe scared SJA again with a breakaway that shot just right of the goal with defensive pressure. Hitt puts in a second about 15 minutes into the second half, and SJA started to really pick up the pace, dominating Barbe both on offense and defense. After an injury to SJA's midfielder, SJA returned to put in a third goal on a corner kick which brought them the final score. Both teams played very well and deserved to advance, but one had to go home. Barbe played a very good game, and unfortunatly for them, they face a strong SJA defense. Good Luck to the St. Joe's Red Dawgs as they face #6 Byrd on Monday!

Nice article by the Advocate except the misinformation about the Acadiana player missing games due to "injury", when in fact she was playing select ball into December.
