I am not trash talking toepoker- I only said that they were't the best team EVER assembled. I am sure that there is another team that has been better. Anyway, even if there wasn't, people would still debate about it. I didn't say anything bad about Mt. Carmel or any of the players, they are great team and probably going to win in the finals. There is no evidence of the picture in BRHS hands... or at least there won't be until I see it. @upside down-anyway, people might be talking about Mt. Carmel for a long time, but they are still not the best team ever assembled. toepoker- in no way was I trying to stir up ill-feelings... as a matter of fact, I predicted Mt. Carmel to win the final. EDIT: Well, I didn't post that I thought Mt. Carmel to win, but I do predict them to win.

Mt. Carmel was good - but - the "best team ever assembled" doesn't have to go through 4 overtime periods and a shootout to win. They were definitely good but could have very easily lost that game.

If you have ever been an on the field official in any sport you know the money is not the reason you give up large chunks of your time. It's for the sake of the game! Just like all youth sports the on the field official is in great demand. Please think about going to a clinic and becoming certified. In the girls game I think I saw some mistakes both ways and in the boys game both fouls in the penalty box were very similar. As a homey it's hard to see both sides. Put on a uniform and give it a try you will never be more needed and unappreciated at the same time. To the Lady Lions the only reason you lost is that someone had to lose. Your skills and determination are not reflected in a box score. Great Game, Great Season, Great sportsmanship! To the Cubs what a brilliant season. I've enjoyed watching you play all year. The friendships and memories will last you a lifetime. Great Game, Great Season, Great sportsmanship! I agree with the above post that the final game could have gone either way. I also agree with the above statement (stated in an earlier thread) about them being the best team ever. I saw MCA have a great run this season but would not even think to diminish other past MCA teams accomplishments or any other schools by making in my opinion such a silly statement.

Is the 2004-05 Mt. Carmel team the best ever? I don't think any team can claim that distinction. Is Mt. Carmel one of the better teams assembledr? Maybe. Consider the following:
Mt. Carmel played a total of 36 games with a record of 34-1-1. During the season they scored 140 goals (3.89 avg. per game) and allowed only 9 goals (0.25 avg. per game). That in and of itself may not be totally significant but consider that of the 36 games played, 20 were against ranked opponents in all three divisions (according to the final poll); 8 were against ranked opponents at the time the games were played; and 7 were against unranked opponents. (One game was also played against Our Lady of the Lake from Mississippi.) Mt. Carmel recorded 29 shutouts in the 36 games played.
The ranked teams include from Division I: Fontainebleau, Lafayette (twice), Baton Rouge, Barbe, Hahnville and Destrehan (twice). In Division II: Sacred Heart (loss on Nov. 23, 2004), St, Thomas More (twice), BenFranklin (twice) and Vanderbilt Catholic. In Division III, Newman (twice, one win and one tie), Country Day, Catholic of New Iberia, E. D. White and I think ESA.
Also, during any given season, Mt. Carmel plays the majority of its games at the opposing team's field. During the course of the year, Mt. Carmel may play three or four games at Tad Gormley, but as I mentioned most of their games are away or at Marconi Meadows in New Orleans. This year, 3 games were at Marconi Meadows and 3 district games were at Tad Gormley (not including the playoffs).
The bottom line is that given the number of quality opponents, the fact that most of their games are away games, and the fact that this was a young team, the 2004-05 Mt. Carmel team can certainly be considered as one of the better teams ever assembled.
Congratulations to Mt. Carmel for a fine season.

Skipping comments for the better teams ever assembled so that no tensions arise, I will say this; I stick with my last statement. Anyway... toepoker- As refs, like you said, we don't give up our time for the money since it is not near what we should get paid. For me, it is about the love of the game. Since I was 5 years old, soccer and baseball were interchangably my favorite sports, but since baseball wasn't offered at my high school, I had to quit. Soccer is almost literally in my everyday life. My seventh hour class is Soccer, high school soccer, recreational soccer, reffing games, watching games, etc. It is all fun for me! Also, it is very hard to be in the center of the pitch with the game in your hands... harder than most think. Now that I am a referee, I have a different vision of the game on and off the field. I will say that I make a lot of mistakes, a lot, but most of the time it offsets and the game is still fair. ;D

What a game - 80 minutes of regulation, 2 10-minute overtime perionds, 2 5-minute sudden death periods - no winner and then a shootout. When Lafayette scored first I thought they'd win the game - I was wrong. Hats off to both teams - unlike the boys game it wasn't decided by a ref. Lafayette's got everybody returning next year and I think MCA's got most returning - it should be interesting next year.
