Mt Carmel, 2-1 in Penalty Kicks.
Just got a call from the referee for the match. He said the game was top notch, and was close the entire game. Stayed tied through regulation and overtime, and ended in Penalty Kicks.

Nice. I knew it would be a close game and that either team would win. Congrats to the D1 Girls State Champs!

Just my luck, having to work today. Congratulations to both teams. What was the shootout score? Was that 2-1 or was the game tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and MCA awarded 1 point for winning the shootout

Here's a link to a short article from the Lafayette paper: www.acadiananow.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050226/SPORTS/50226005Two 10-minute overtime periods and two 5-minute sudden death periods faild to produce a winnerMount Carmel outscored Lafayette High 3-1 in a shootout Saturday to win the state Division I girls soccer title in New Orleans. Two 10-minute overtime periods and two 5-minute sudden death overtimes produced no winner after regulation play ended 1-1. The shootout settled the state championship. Lafayette took a 1-0 lead with 26 minutes left in the second half on a goal by Traci Millett. Six minutes later, Mount Carmel's Krista Stearn scored to tie the game.

Congratulations to the MCA soccer club The game was very even with both teams at times having a better game and taking control. The refs came from Lake Charles and it showed the New Orleans team seemed to get an odd number of corner kicks v goal kicks and the idea of a take down in the box was not part of Travis'ref training. When are we going to wise us and get some out of state refs that don't have any prejudice against one team. The LHS boys took an even worse s----wing from the ref with a very clean slide tackle in the box resulting in a PK for the New Orleans team and a the game going into OT. Time to get OUT of New Orleans and play in a neutral town with real refs.

With the money that the LHSAA skims off of everything I would hope that they could afford out of state college level refs that would be beyond queston. This would remove any question of bias. What are you afraid of? IS Lake Charles known for their soccer or their refs?

Okay Catch22. So you didn't like the refereeing....fine we aren't crazy about some refs either. So you want outside college level refs....fine sounds like might be something worth looking into. But why not just stick to the subject of the game. The last pompass, condescending, sarcastic line slamming Lake Charles soccer was uncalled for. Our girls work hard, play hard and love soccer as much as anywhere else. We play in one of the toughest districts in the state without the benefit of a well-developed,longstanding school, club and city soccer program behind us like some of our more fourtunate Lafayette brothers. We just try to go out there and play our best like many other schools in this state. We had the oppurtunity to play some awesome teams this year. Laffayette and Mnt. Carmel among some of the best. Laffayette beat us twice in shoot-outs after being tied and Mnt. Carmel beat us in early season tournament play 3-1. not too shabby against two of the best teams in our division. One thing I do know you never once saw any of our girls come on here and whine and complain about the reffing of a game, make excuses or slam another team. Sorry for the rant I seldom post but that last line got my goat!

Wow! Everyone's ignorance is showing. So, now I know that two of the final games were won by the referees. People get over the fact that you lost. Everyone of the teams in the finals had a great season, of course, and shouldn't be shamed at coming in second place.
Why would we get out-of-state referees to do an LSA match? I think there is a problem with that if you look at it right.
I have had the pleasure of working with a lot of referees and calls that while I am playing look bad, they are correct while actually stepping back and watching the reffed game.
To everyone blaming their games on the referees, I hope that you can overcome it and look at how the match was played.

Getting out of state referees? Do you realize each state has different high school rules? Why would we want officials from different states?
You sounded stupid wanting college officials. Do you realize last night on the D1 Boys Final, all four referees are college officials. On the D1 Girls Final, 2 of the 4 were college officials. What more cna you ask for?

I think the best way to look at this, is the fact that the REFEREES ALWAYS win the game, and the players ALWAYS LOOSE the game. That's pretty much what you are saying.

Not partial to any of the teams who played in the finals. The refs were not outstanding and there are better venues in Louisiana to play the high school finals. New Orleans will never be a "neutral field" when the finals are filled with New Orleans teams.

Congrats to MCA on a fine win. MCA played LHS twice this season and won twice. Proven on the field, nuff said. The refs blew big time chunks both ways, so let us please address that on another thread (see wish list thread) and let's not diminish what MCA or LHS did this season on this thread.
Good season LHS, nothing to hang you heads about. I can think of a few thousand other soccer players who would love to be where you are today. This season, the "pollsters" kept ingoring how strong the Lady Lions were and you proved them wrong (just like the year before). And EVERYONE on the LHS team can honestly say they will be back next year!

No problem with the officiating in the girls' game. Two very evenly matched teams. Too bad it was decided by a shootout (flipping a coin) but you have to end it some way and that's the format - Mt. Carmel won it fair and sqare and congrats to a fine team. The boys game was a very different story - a game deciding call in the final minute of play was blatantly and obviously horrible. The call decided the outcome of the game. I don't know or care where they were from but it was the worst call that directly affected the outcome of a game I've ever seen. I was standing 20 yards away.
