Good points, you're probably spot on.

FalconDad My calculations agree, however, there could be more byes than just 3. Based on previous experience, not all teams will request a wildcard bid. A fifth place team from a district of only 5 teams that lost every district game might not choose to participate in playoffs. So there could be more than 3 byes. Question is how is it determined who gets the automatic advancement to the next round?

Go to this link and scroll down to Soccer Playoff Bulletin - it is the rules, seedings, etc. Even though the first page still says 2005 - go to the 2nd page and it will list the correct dates for 2006. lhsaa.org/FormsBulletins.htm

A fifth place team from a district of only 5 teams that lost every district game might not choose to participate in playoffs. So there could be more than 3 byes. Question is how is it determined who gets the automatic advancement to the next round? My count is 37 teams, but math is not my strong suit. In the past, several teams that qualified, declined to sign up as a wildcard, after a sucky season. With 32 teams, only the 0-fer-district teams would not qualify. Does a 1-9 or 2-8 teams want to travel and go play the top team in the state? Travel for the shellacking? The problem it creates is with home game assignments. Last year ASH played wildcard McKinley in the first round, while Dutchtown got a bye when their wildcard bailed. So ASH, which should have been the home team, had to go play at D'Town b/c they had not yet played at home. Not that they would have beaten D'Town, but they would have had a much better chance had it been a home game. Current DII, D2 standings: 1. Sam Houston 2. (T) ASH 2. (T) Tioga 4. Deridder 5. Pineville

District 4 standings, top three will not change.......4 and 5 pretty much set, unless an upset occurs. Tara hosts EA Saturday, McKinley plays Belaire. Beware wildcards Tara and McKinley, both have great keepers and are typical hard-nosed BR public school kids who can handle offensive pressure well and do not crack easily.
1. East Ascension 8-1 2. St. Michael 8-2 3. Zachary 7-3 4. McKinley 3-6 5. Tara 3-6 6. Belaire 0-9
