Lafayette 2 Barbe 0 Barbe seem to control the tempo of the game esp for the first 25 mins Barbe had a PK early in the first half blocked by Ortego. It was a good call, a trip in the box. The Lady Lions were on the defense for much of the first half. Barbe had good passing and I would have to give them the edge for most of the game 55 / 45. The Lady Lions scored on a drive up the middle by Granger. She beat the the sweeper and put it past the keeper. The second score was a great cross from left to right Andrus crossed to Burney who finished. Overall I thought it was a better match than the one in Lake Charles.

Lafayette 2 Barbe 0 Here is my take on the game. I couldn't be more proud of the way my Barbe girls played tonight. Barbe dominated the first 20 minutes of play and Lafayette crossed the mid field just once. Turning point in the game came early with a PK called on Lafayette and Ortego made a great save not just on the PK but 2 rapid fire put backs at point blank range. Second 20 minutes of the half Barbe also controlled and Lafayette had 2 shots on goals and both were converted on beautiful crosses on 1 and a up the gut by Chelsea Granger. Second half was more even between the 2 teams and both teams left it on the field. Lafayette played well and as I said before, Lafayette and Mandeville are the 2 best teams I have seen play this year. I also I have to address a question I raised earlier about the best keeper in the district. I am still very impressed with Brandi from NISH but my question was answered with the best keeper in district. My question is how do you compare these goalies with each other for district honors. The NISH goalie is getting peppered each game and Barbe/Lafayette may only get 4 or 5 shots on goal each game. How do you compare one to the other??? Chelsea Ortego made a believer out of me tonight. Barbe had a PK and Chelsea snuffed out and many great runs that she single handedly stop on cruical runs by the Lady Bucs. Get the ballots ready and mark her in........ Good luck on the rest of the season Lady Lions, I hope to see game 3 in the playoffs.

According to Merriam-Webster the definition of "dominate" is: 1 : RULE, CONTROL. 2 : to exert the supreme determining or guiding influence on. Based on this definition, and it could just be me, how do you dominate a game and still get beat 2-0? I mean if you were to exert the supreme determining or guiding influence on a game...wouldn't it make more sense to actually win it?

It could just be me ..... but any player willing to stand in nets with the likes of C. Granger, J. Hopkins, K. Dahdril, J. Austin, Zumani and that other fast chick from Comeaux, A. Bacque, J. Verret, S. Mouton, and all the other talented players that make up district 3 coming at them...and willing to do it without ducking out of the way or maximizing their daily quotient of swear words should definitely be a canidate for "best keeper." A field player has a bad game and it is much easier for her teammates to pick up the slack and cover for her....a keeper has a bad game and the team is screwed and everybody knows it. That kind of pressure has got to suck. I have seen Brandi from NISH, Ortego from Lafayette, Hill from Acadiana, the keeper from Barbe, all of them, have really great games. Games worthy of "best keeper." I don't know the name of the Sulpher keeper but she was really impressive as well in the game I saw her play, even though the score may not have reflected that. The powers that be will have a hard time picking but I would be willing to bet that they take into account the degree of difficulty for said keepers when casting their votes. This is the Baptism By Fire district and I'm impressed with any player with enough ovum to gut it out in the nets.

I ain't got no big book to look up words but I have seen plenty of games dominated by one team and won by the other. You can out shoot the other team 20 to 1 but if their shot hits the back of the net and none of your 20 does you end up on the short end. bottom line, If you score more than your opponent you win. Some times soccer matches, soccer ref's and soccer coaches don't make sense. ( or Div I brackets)

Take out your Merriam-Webster and re read my post (and no I have not changed a word of it). My post said Barbe dominated the first 20 minutes of the game and if you asked anyone there I think they would agree. I believe Barbe , how did you and Mr Webster say RULE, CONTROL the first 20 minutes of the game. I never said Barbe dominated the game. It was a great win by Lafayette and I think Barbe played a great game. Leave it at that, accept the win and I hope both teams go far into the playoffs. Were you at this game? If so give me your take of the game, not question my anaylsis which is easier to do..... but that could just be me.

Thanks Barbedad and Leobacker..those are great answers. I've often said myself that "we dominated the game, we just didn't win." Then my significant other (who knows nothing about soccer and even asked me the other day during a game "what quarter are we in?") asked me "How do you dominate and still loose?" Valid question and gave me pause to think...and frankly I needed some help explaining...and obviously came to the right place! Yeah I did see the game....and both teams looked really really good. When I watched Barbe pass it up the field to feet in such a fashion that it looked like an MLS game it made me pray for about two feet of rain the day we play them so that the puddles will give us advantage....as far as Lafayette goes all I need to say is "Granger and Ortego" and it should instill fear. I can definitely say that next time we play either Lafayette or Barbe I hope they dominate...just as long as we get lucky enough to hold them off and still slip one in the back of the net...so that way when somebody asks me about the game I'm not the one saying "well we dominated but......."

My take on the Lafayette High - Barbe game--Barbe dominated (for lack of a better word) the first 20 minutes, looking very, very good. Following the failed pk, Lafayette High dominated the rest of the first half, scoring 2 goals. Barbe came out the second half very strong and made a great effort to get back into the game--controlling the first 15 - 20 minutes, but was unable to score. Control slowly shifted back to Lafayette High for most of the last 20 minutes of the game.

Comeaux 2 Lafayette 0 Comeaux came out very aggressive and took the game to LHS. They won almost all the balls. The first score was a off of a great cross from deep right to the 5 yard mark where it was finished. the second score was on a free kick from about the 25 that went just under the cross bar. It was a great kick. The Lions seemed lost and never showed any offense. Congratulations to the Comeaux Spartans!

District 3 has got to be the most exciting district to track. There are other districts with one or two key match ups but it appears there can be an upset every week in this district. At this point you have to wonder if the Comeaux game was an upset. They have now dropped 2 of the best teams in the state that just so happen to be in their district. What's next in this district? Keep up the good work D3 teams!

Sounds like a bunch of the Div I districts are heating up. This district 3 looks like a wild race with Comeaux entering the action with Lafayette, Barbe, and Acadiana. In district 4 there is another wild race with Dutchtown, St. Amant, St. Joseph, and Baton Rouge High battling it out. District 3 - Comeaux and Lafayette have split, Barbe and Lafayette have split District 4 - BRHS and Dutchtown have split, St. Amant and St. Joseph have split

Take this district a step further and if Comeaux wouldn't have slipped with Carencro you would have 4 teams-Laf, Barbe, Acadiana, and Comeaux at 8-2 marks. The next 2 weeks will be some great soccer in what I have said since day 1, THE STRONGEST DISTRICT IN THE STATE. There isn't a district champ out there that wants to see the 3 and 4 seed from this district in the opening round. Buckle up and Let's Get Ready to Rumble!!!

Yes this is a tough district but it does not look too good when you have a coach telling his players to "kick their ankles" and the center ref hears this and just warns the coach again and again.
