Will this poll compete with the coaches polls?
And do you have people in the various regions of the state keeping track of games, scores etc. and then voting?

Will this poll compete with the coaches polls? And do you have people in the various regions of the state keeping track of games, scores etc. and then voting? It is a poll compiled of pollsters we feel have a knowledge of the game. While the boys poll has people placed around the state more though then the girls. This is possible from the users the boys draw to this forum. We are hoping over the years it can spread. However, If we feel that the poll submitted is too biast, it is thrown out, and the pollster is put on probation. This is the first years we do it on the girls side. However, the 3rd year that the boys have some type of poll. It has become pretty accurate on the boys side, when the coaches poll has lacked to move up people after them losing. (IE #6 loses to #7, yet #6 stays in the same place, and if not gains a few votes.) However, LAPrep poll can only get better with the more input it gets.

Several rankings surprise me even though this first poll:
Div I 1) Why are Fontainebleau and Mandeville ranked above Barbe after last years super finish by Barbe and their return of the majority of their team? Does history play that big a part in peoples voting or is it just that they are that good? 2) How is Terrebonne down at the bottom of the Div I poll? soccerfest will choke on this. They still haven't earned their stripes (votes)
Div II 1) Does St. Thomas Moore still rank at the top with the loss of the Boss? 2) Should Neville be a little higher with their super young talent and their finish last year? 3) Good to see the confidence in Vandebilt after the loss of their all time leading scorer.
Div III 1) Interesting to see Newman above Sacred Heart. This may be the only time we see that this year. 2) Teurlings is moving up. Does anyone know if the LSU girl is still the head coach? If she is, watch out. Possible top 4 finish this year. Good talent with a good coach is lethal.

thruball, remember this is a pre-season poll, and until the teams get on the field, you basically go on performance last year - loss productive players + incoming new players (- the freshman factor) and then after all that, you basically go on gut instinct from what you have seen. Now, once the season starts, you can start making a few more educated assumptions based on the way the teams are playing. When these teams get into district, a clearer picture will form, because the teams will have all their players back (i.e. volleyball, cross country, etc.). I think that the poll looks pretty good for a preaseason poll.

I checked Mt. Carmel's calendar today and found that MCA is scheduled to play the following ranked teams: Sacred Heart - ranked 1st in DIII- twice, one in a scrimmage and once in the regular season); Newman - ranked 2nd in DIII - also twice same as Sacred Heart; St. Amant - ranked 6th in DI; Terrebonne - ranked 10th in DI; Country Day - ranked 10th in DIII; St. Thomas More- ranked 1st in DII; Vanderbilt - ranked 3rd in DII; and Ben Franklin - ranked 6th in DII. In addition, they will play St. Joseph, Destrehan and St. Michael as well Dominican and Chapelle twice. Just curious if any other teams have a similar schedule against a number of quality opponents so we can better gauge future rankings.
I think we will find out quickly whether MCA is a challenger for the State title.

Terrebonne plays Fontainebleau(# 2 Div I), Mandeville(#3 Div I), Mt. Carmel(# 4 Div I), Vandebilt(#3 Div II), E.D. White (# 6 Div III) and Destrehan, Dominican, Hahnville and Central Lafourche. If my memory serves me correct, everyone of these teams were either first or second in their district last year. I think the rest of their games are district games accept the Brothers of Sacred Heart Tournament. The only other team I am sure of for that tournament is E.D. White. Very good topic mfg17.

Great Idea Mfg17:
Barbe plays: Lafayette twice (Div I #1), Fontainebleau (Div I #2) , Mandeville (Div I #3), Acadiana twice (Div I #9), Sam Houston twice (Div II #4), St Louis twice (Div III #3) and Tuerlings (Div III #4). I think teams have to play difficult schedules to prepare for a serious run into the playoffs.

barbedad20, Not only playing in our tough district, don't forget about the tournament that you guys and Laffy is going to in New Orleans. The St. Martin tourney will be loaded with teams that bring winning tradition with them when they step on the field. Hell of a schedule that Barbe and Laffy will be playing. Laffy will have 2 games with St. Thomas More during the break and STM will also be at the St. Martin tourney. We should get a look at some pretty good soccer this year.
