IF Ea does fal out of the polls next week it will matter little to their coach, His goal is to being in the playoffs in FEB not the LA Prep Polls in early DEC. Think he is trying to find the correct combinations for when District play starts.

Just for the record, FHS played the majority of the game with 3 forwards. Late in the first half, FHS did bring 1 forward to midfield to try and move the ball better through the middle, but went back to 3 forwards at the start of the second half. The problem appeared to be that even when FHS got behind the forwards and midfielders didn't press enough. Mandeville was playing 4 back instead of thier usual 3. Without pressing, FHS just could not get numbers up top.
Actually, Mandeville played most of the game with 1 attacking forward and 1 recessed. Mandeville goals came from 2 shots from the outside which both hit the post and were finished up by their attaching forward. The other goal came of a great corner that was headed in by an unmarked player.
Mandeville has an excellent, seasoned defense. For FHS to change the outcome next time around they will need to play harder and smarter.
In my opinion (which doesn't mean much) If Mandeville plays the same defense, FHS should move to 3 in the back, move their stopper to a defensive midfielder position, and make their center mid strictly create offense and press the defense. Again, just my opinion.
Credit to Mandeville. They wanted it more and came to play.

i honestly think that it is far enough into the season to have already figured out your combinations and lineup. Other teams have already done it and many of louisiana teams workout throughout the summer. A coach should know by now what to do especially when many of your kids are returning players. Its not really an excuse to sacrifice half of the kids season in order to just figure out a lineup. A good coach would have already figured it out especially since they have a team of coaches at that school. Im sure the kids don't appreciate losing.

I have to agree with PumaFC. The only poll that matters is the one that comes out Feb 25 2007. All the rest of this sometimes makes for fun reading but does not count in the long run. The idea of adjusting a line up at this very early stage in the season seems to make sense to me.

4-5-1 is a legit system of play at times. I have been hearing alot of people criticize it here. I am in agreement that the best defense...is not to play defense at all because you have the ball and are attacking. However, letting a team get comfortable playing the ball around the back THEN switching to 3 up top after 15 or 20 minutes tends to really be effective...in the right circumstances against the right team. That 1 player up top has to be a REAL speed merchant though. A deep threat so to speak to keep the other team honest...draw them up and pretend to be weak...then show your cards. The key is can your team endure 15 - 20 minutes of being run at and not concede a goal.....that is the big IF. You must have very disciplined defenders skilled at 1 v 1 defending as well as good communication and superior organization. If your team falls too far back and defends in their own 18....TROUBLE. You have to draw the line 35-40 yards out. Anyway....just a few thoughts. I am busy trying to split the atom so I have to get back to work and it's getting past my BEDTIME. Pay no attention to my pathetic and foolish insomniac rantings and ,...what was it...oh yes pontifications. LOL!

Yes, I think a 4-5-1 can be used effectively. However, I think it is important to teach your players to adapt to the game circumstances. In other words if I place a team out in a 4-4-2, they should be able to adapt to the game flow and show the appropriate look on the field for what is happening in a game (i.e. if help is needed in the midfield, they should adjust to show more of a 4-5-1 look, or if the game dictates that more of an attack is needed, they should adjust to look more like a 4-3-3. Emphasis here is on what is required as the game flows rather than a set formation on the field.

you guys are very correct in saying that the only poll that counts is the last poll. i totally agree with those points. The point that i was making is that the longer you take to adjust your line ups the less time your actual starting lineups have to build a chemistry and get ready for district. it is very hard to mesh with people when you have little time to get used to them. Moreover, the point i was making is that they may likely fall out of the 10 ten and not bounce back because of the indecisiveness and inability to choose a starting lineup. It is however true that east ascension does play in a relatively weak district so they will be able to get by. i shall make the same point again, that it is not fair to the kids who play on the team, to go out and not try to win games. Do understand that i am not disagreeing with the previous points, it was simply my fault for not being more clear. Sorry bout that. What matters is that east ascension ends on top at the end and that means taking the proper steps NOW to ensure that. Thats why i say try as good as possible to find the right lineup to win. Coaches can tweak the lineups from game to game but not the entire lineup thats a little ridiculous and hard on the players.

According to the DI D4 thread, BRHS beat Zachary and EA and lost to STM and SSA and those are their only known games so far... Any guess on how they are still sitting at #6 (and the only ranked DI D4 team) right now?
