Lafayette, Barbe and Dominican earned points in my book this weekend by playing in a brutal tournament in the tuff conditions. I still view Fontainebleau as the team to beat this year but you may have lost a couple of points by not participating. Just my opinion.

Couple of comments (surprises) for me: Div I Mandeville still ahead of Barbe in polls ? Baton Rouge high still #6 after loss to SSA 4-0 (which could have been worse) Div II That STM is tied with SSA for 1st - to me its SSA Div III Parkview & ED White ahead of St. Thomas Aquinas
But, all those things, is what makes it interesting.

As far as Lafayette moving over FHS after a loss to STM, that doesn't seem right and besides FHS had a district game Friday night so I don't think they could've participated in the tournament even if they wanted too. Mandeville I think is overrated, but they could change my opinion after Tuesday night. This is Mandeville's year to win it, after this year I think they lose a strong core of their players and with SSA moving into the district its not going to get any easier. I believe after STM winning the one of the strongest tournaments of the year they should be above SSA until proven otherwise. SSA is good and very young but STM won it last year and then just beat the D1 champ this weekend. I give the nod, for now to STM. In D3 its going to be a battle all year long between Newman and Sacred Heart, I think they'll see each other in the final.

As far as FHS having a District game and not being able to make it to the tourney. Re-schedule the game for another time. Laffy and Barbe had a District match-up for Friday night, but the coaches feel it is more important to play quality competition in a tournament environment and play 26 players to see how they react under the pressure these teams will put on you. So they re-scheduled the game for later in the season. I'm just saying in can be done if taken care of as soon as the schedules come out. Those who did not attend missed watching some good teams play some hard fought games. Those who were at the game saw a Lafayette team control most of the game, but what matters is that St. Thomas More put one in the net. Hats off to them on the win and thank you STM fans for making it a pleasurable game for us Laffy fans. It's great when the parents and players know each other so well they can play hard on the field and the parents can joke with each other in the stands. Lafayette area represented well this weekend. Good luck with the rest of the season.

I think if any team goes undefeated all season, they would be a lock for #1. SSA game will be good.

It's just not fair making SSA and Font play one another. Everyone with a brain knows they're the two best soccer teams in the state and whoever loses that game will be ranked 2nd in the polls because they have a loss. The undefeated season for one of them will end and these poor girls hopes, dreams and aspirations will be forever dashed.
Oh.....I meant parents hopes, dreams and aspirations..........not the girls...they'll get over it.
But then again, that's just my opinion!

fhssoccerfan...I don't think anyone can seriously argue w/ you that for the 2007-2008 season the FHS, Mandeville and SSA district will be the toughest in the state. I just feel sorry for the others in that district. Until then.....the toughest D1 district is Barbe and Lafayette's. On any given day Comeaux or Acadiana can shock you.

FHS continues to impress with its ability to make wholesale changes on the field without skipping a beat. SSA is the total package when it comes to the game. However, I don't think that it is not fair having them play one another, cause I think it is a terrific thing for La soccer. Who cares who is ranked what, its always great to watch 2 real good teams battle it out.

SSA is young....only 1 senior I think, mostly freshmen and sophomores, but they've got talented young players. It should be good when they meet FHS.

Just for the record Mandeville did change my opinion, I stlll believe FHS has the talent and depth to win it all, however Mandeville is much better organized and actually looked as if they had a plan for FHS. Mandeville was up for the game, FHS looked like they were trying not to give up a forth goal as opposed to trying to get back in the game. It definately did not look like the direct/attacking style that FHS normally plays with. Late in the game it looked like FHS was playing with only one forward. Mandeville dominated hands down. I do think FHS will be ready for them during the next go round though........

That Same Philosophy of " One Forward " on Top, once a Goal or 2 is scored, is STILL used by some Coaches ( NO Names Mentioned )
I Hope that "THEY" ( Coaches ) Just BELIEVE in Their TEAM and let them Fight it out on the FIELD!
One Forward against a Wave of Defenders Doesn't Score NEEDED GOALS.

In a game where you know that you're clearly the weaker team, playing with only one forward is basically about saving some sort of respectability by keeping the score lower. If they're all over you with 4 midfielders; 5 midfielders might make it slightly more difficult - it might give the lesser team slightly longer to regroup and get in position defensively. However, if this is not working, and they're still all over you with 5 midfielders, you might as well play with 2 midfielders and 4 up front, and just play kick ball whenever you have it. But thats not a blueprint at all, each situation is unique, so different circumstances will dictate proceedings.

Oh I can definitely say that I was not talking about those two teams. I was just stating an opinion in general. Food for thought. By the way, how does one become eligible to vote in these polls?

Seems to me if you can keep the ball on the other side of the midfield line you won't be scored on. I would prefer to see at least two if not three players going forward all the time, keeps the defense on their heels. It a shame that teams want to score one goal and pack it in, defending with nie and leaving one player to try to create some offense for you. If you have a weak team, counterattacking may be your only hope but that shouldn't be the case when your talking the top teams in the state.

After losing a few key players, Im sure they're finding their feet steadily. I've got confidence in the coach to get results with what he has though....
