yea i heard she's pretty good. that was an amazing goal too. opelousas' keeper almost stopped it. deculus takes after rachel jones. their sweeper from last year. but they have a fresh team this year i dont think they'll go all the way...

I think four of this states best defenders all play for the NOSA u-18 girls team, which is currently un scored on in Primere Region play. They are Alanna Torrey (Mandivelle), Carrie Albert (Ben Franklin, Taryn Ramsey (Destrehan), and and Kallie Grey (Mt. Carmel). Each of these girls brings scurity and leadership to thier respective school's backline.

Melissa Minton from St. Louis is doing a great job.

Allison Mylius at Woodlawn should get some consideration, unlike some of the others listed above Woodlawn has been playing a 3-4-3 leaving Allison with a freshman and a sophomore on the wings. Makes for a lot of ground to cover when you are the second defender for both sides of the field.

I would have to say three of the best INDIVIDUAL defenders in the state come from the Lake Charles region. Kristen Daughdril of barbe Natalie Eyuob of St. Louis(sorry for the misspelling) and Melissa Minton of St. Louis. All three play on the same club team Kristen plays sweeper hence her dad's nickname for her sweep and Melissa plays center mid and Natalie marks whever the other teams best player is as needed, but interestingly enough when highschool comes around the three switch positions for their respective schools. Now that Barbe lost their forward Kristen is seeing time up there and since St L lost their attack due to graduation they decided to move Natalie up to forward (who is doing a very good job having to be double teamed by most teams). Not only are these three girls fast and athletic, but all seem to understand the game very well. Highschool is a little different that club in the fact you have to step up for your teams even larger weak spots where the less experienced player is at. Barbe has so much better of a well rounded team as apposed to St Louis which relies on Melissa much more than barbe does on their sweeper, which is the only reason I would edge Melissa over the other two. During club season I would put Natalie as the best defender in the Region. I have seen her shut too many regional and national pool girls down time and time again. But that's just my thoughts....

From the Northshore Division III
There are three strong defenders this year. Maureen Homburg from Pope John Paul. She has the experience and speed to take away many of the opponents scoring threats.
For St. Thomas Aquinas, I watched two defenders that have helped this team. Deanna Rollette, a senior. Fast, smart and a leader on the field. She's played defense for the past three years and it shows this year.
The other St. Thomas Aquinas player is Rochelle Gagliano. She's a junior, ODP player and plays on a boys' team during club season. She played as a wing for the past two season, but because of the schools lack of depth, the new coach moved her to defense. She's quick, fearless and can be a defensive playmaker.
With these three, it should be a good season for this district on the Northshore.

Great players mentioned so far! A good way to look at best defender would be number of goals scored against a TEAM. Just a thought, teams have great defense most of the time, not single defenders. Stats, anyone?

Hahnville's defense has allowed 31 goals in 19 games, and has 12 shutouts thanks to goalie Megan Waters.

forgive me if I'm wrong, but 31 goals in 19 games minus 12 shutouts = a four goal/per game average, that does not typically elude to an above average defense, God work by the gk but this is a best defender thread

by the way Allyson Hollier is by far the best defender to grace a field in Louisiana

she also scored a 55 yard goal. How many defender do u kno that can do that? Not many. It was probably sheer luck also. How many defenders can do that INTENTIONALLY? Not a lob over the keeper. But a streamline SHOT. I hit a goal from inside the midfield circle, on the other side of the half field mark, my freshman year. And believe me, I'm nothing more than a string-bean kid with a foot. It's not that great of a feat if you can catch a goalie off-guard, too far out. When all the player really meant to do was clear the ball. Yeah it sounds good and all, until you mention the fact that all the player really was trying to do was clear it. tbiff...... I hate to burst you bubble, but 31 goals in 19 games is not really something I'd be proud of. Whats all this hype over Allison Hollier? I live in the laf. area and don't think I've heard anything outstanding about her in all the years that I've known she has played soccer. On both the Premier and High School fields. What about Caroline Klara from Laf. High? I'm personally scared of this woman. She will track you down, and probably plow you down also, to get the ball. Amazingly her tackles are just as clean. It's not her fault she has more muscle mass than the whole opposing teams starting 11.

There are good backs out there. I think mainly from the N.O. area. But I'm not saying thats where they all come from.

Only luck there may have been that the keeper was in awe and could not react fast enough. Ball was hammered with plenty of pace and the defense was waiting for it as it was a direct kick. Keeper lept but couldn't reach it. It cleared her fingertips just below dead center of the crossbar. One of those shots you had to see. she also scored a 55 yard goal. How many defender do u kno that can do that? Not many. It was probably sheer luck also. How many defenders can do that INTENTIONALLY? Not a lob over the keeper. But a streamline SHOT. Klara does start for U-18 rage. When we have played them she has started. I read in The Advertiser she has commited to play at Centenary next year. First commitment I have heard so far this year. A verbal commitment is given with the understanding a National Letter of Intent will be signed on signing date. A player issues a verbal commitment to sign a National Letter of Intent when they are offered money to play.

3rdcoast... those things happen. Personally, I'd show that off too. I just wouldn't include all the details.
Some just show better in High School rather than Select. It happens. I've been told it was a verbal agreement. I saw the womens coach (Chase Wooten) out there for the AHS/LHS game last week.
