Great to see DeRidder finally break into the top 10 but not meaning to 2nd guess or be critical but how is Sam Houston still # 6 after two district losses at the hands of DeRidder and Alexandria. Just curious, but great job keeping all this lined up, keep up the good work.

Who votes on this official ranking deal...How can Barbe not drop with a loss at Comeaux? Mt. Carmel and Byrd should both be ranked ahead of them? Go Spartans!

Spartacus--Don't think too much on this and try to figure out the voters take on things. You aren't gonna figure it out. It's not logical. The voters seem to be from places other than the South Louisiana area, except barbedad. They do their best but their bias comes out in the voting which is understandable. These people are all fans for their respective schools and then their districts and then their areas. It's ok..........relax!

Kind of hard to reconcile BRHS being ranked with a 5-5 record when Dutchtown only gets a few vote with a 10-2 record. Ditto St Amant 2 vote when they are 2-9-2 with wins over Woodlawn & who? (they played Walker last night) Sounds like a couple of the D1 Dis 4 teams are riding past glory right now, May change by mid January.

But should they be punished purely based on their record. Do they deserve to be punished when scheduling tough teams and having a losing non-district record??
If that was the case, the likes of St Joes would not travel all over looking for the hardest teams to play

Agreed, BRHS losses were to first/second ranked teams (SSA twice, STM once, Newman once) and the one loss to Dutctown.

I think Dutchtown is underrated. They have good speed up top and solid defense & mid-field. Also perhaps more quality depth than most teams. Also Ben Franklin 2-5 and ranked #7??

Re Ben Franklin -- of the five losses, four were to teams ranked #1, 2, or 3 (2 to Newman, 1 to Sacred Heart, 1 to Vandebilt), and they beat a #3 (Vandebilt). Credit to the Franklin coach for not padding her schedule with easy games.
Update -- actually now 2-6, having lost to another highly ranked team (St. Thomas More).

FalconDad, what are you implying? Looking through the post, Dutchtown's only 2 losses came at the hand of Div II #2 STM and Div III #1 Newman, while playing in a district with BRHS, St. Amant, and St. Joe's. Plus I see they have a victory over ranked Mississippi team Gautier. Come on now.............. Give a Dog a Bone! What coach are you talking about........ possibly someone in your district or division......... let it out.

Dog bones freely available -- I wasn't saying anything about Dutchtown, just about Ben Franklin (though I agree the same logic might apply to Dutchtown if their only losses are to highly-ranked teams).
The BF coach is Kalli Forster.

who cares about rankings. bottom line they mean nothing, they are just opinions. Teams will show who is number one in the playoffs. How many times has the number one been knocked off in the playoffs???

Since the bracketing for the playoffs is set before anyone touches a ball in October, #1 and #2 could meet fairly early in the playoffs. There is no guarantee that some one other than the #1 will have the easiest draw, I've seen in the past where a team might be better off not winning the district because of who they match up against in round two or three. It is fun to argue who the top teams in the state are. Personally having seen everyone in D1D4, I still question Dutchtown's ranking. I'm pretty sure the coaching staff would prefer to stay below the radar until late February when they want to be underestimated by those teams ranked a head of them.

Regardless of when the brackets are made WHY would you put the #1,2,3 teams from any district in the same half of a bracket. something seems very odd when you look at the D1 brackets this year. I fully agree that sometimes the 2 or 3 place finisher in the district may have a much easier road to the semi's or even the finals than the district champion. For examples of both look at D1Dis3 on this years brackets.
