Just curious how many others think that the field at Newman should not be used for soccer games.
Here are my reasons. Add others if you have them.
1. Chain link fence close to field. SAFTEY hazzard
2. Concrete walkway close to field. SAFTEY hazzard
3. Excessive turtle back. To great of a home team advantage.

Everyone has to deal with these issues. It is called home field advantage for a reason.

Must agree Nutmeg, its also what makes high school soccer more interesting. Many different good and not so good venues to play on.

Newman's field used to be one of my favorite to play on in high school. I don't know if it is still wedged in behind the school (that is where it was in the early 90s) but there used to be a graveyard on one side and a little gravel parking lot on the other. My team used to get up several goals and start goofing around kicking balls off the buildings and into the graveyard. Now that I am older this seems silly but boy we had fun with it in HS. However Newman was not quite the powerhouse they are now, so I wouldn't suggest any extra shenanigans.
(And at that time the Manning boys were at Newman and they were nice eye-candy for a bunch of HS girls) I know off-subject ;D
I think I just really like that field because it holds good memories and I can see how it has some hazards but that could be said of several fields in the state. Louisiana has a number of fields that have "character."

Im guessing you've never played at the pit? Play there and you will see what home field advantage is like.

The Pit is one of those fields I was talking about that has "character"!
It domes in such an odd way that when you are sitting on the bench you can't see the goalies feet or calves! But hey it is always interesting out there.

Hey, Let's reverse this: What are the best fields?

Hey, Let's reverse this: What are the best fields? The opposite side of this spectrum would be Barbe Soccer Complex. True soccer size field- 118 yards by 70 yards wide as opposed to a football size field of 113 yards by 52 yards wide. Wish more teams could play on this field to truly appreciate soccer like it should be played- wide open, no huge turtle back.

I would put Hahnville's field on the best list. Even though they play on the football field, they have enough room to make it at least a 65 yard wide field and the grass is in excellent shape

I agree Newman's field gives them a definitive advantage. East Acension's stadium is set up basically the same, really closed in.
I think these fields really give the game a personality in our state, because so many results can be dictated by the site and field size-- especially when the luxury of width is available.

All the New Orleans area coaches I know either don't play in it or won't play in it (these are the ones that played there for the first time this year). It's a cement surface where if you sit on the bench on one side of the field and the ball is on the other side of the field, you can't see the ball because the field it curves up in the middle!. Unacceptable surface mainly for the kids safety where the LHSAA should jump in and take a position.

One of the best fields in the New Orleans area is St. Martin's.

One of the best field I would have to say is my high schools field (Saint Thomas) Very nice field, has World Cup bench covers, wide field, almost full length field, nice green rye grass, and it is flat field across, no crown on the field, and it never has standing water on the field either, only negative i can say a/b it is that some idiot drove there truck on the field this yr. and damaged it a little bit, but should be back to normal in a few weeks, and it does not seat many ppl

Although the field meets the technical rules, it is not a suitable field to play soccer on. Besides being one of the unsafest fields in the state, the slope on the field gives an unfair advantage to the home team. Its one thing to have home field advantage with the crowd and travel, its another to take a visiting team out of their game because they can not be effective on one half of the field. How does a team even begin to prepare to play there?
LHSSA would be wise not to allow games to played there at all with its current setup. LHSSA, the school and the referee's have the duty to evaluate and eliminate unacceptable field risks. Resolving the acceptablility may only be one law suit away.
