Okay lets think outside of the box... I took the brackets and put in the teams if there was some sort of power rankings from the top 10 votes over the past few weeks. I only did the top 16 so lets assume that all top teams won their first round games. Please notice, even by placing the teams this way, Barbe and Lafayette could still meet in the quarters for a 4th time this year (and who said God doesn't have a sense of humor!!) 2007 DIVISION I PLAYOFF BRACKET-Power Rankings 1 seed | Mandeville | vs | | ------------------ | 16 seed | Ruston | | **************** | 8 seed | Byrd | vs | | ------------------ | 9 seed | Caddo Magnet | | **************** | 5 seed | Lafayette | vs | | ------------------ | 12 seed | Baton Rouge | | **************** | 13 seed | Dominican | vs | | ------------------ | 4 seed | Barbe | | **************** | | **************** | 3 seed | Mt Carmel | vs | | ------------------ | 14 seed | Hahnville | | **************** | 6 seed | Terrebonne | vs | | ------------------ | 11 seed | Acadiana | | **************** | 7 seed | Dutchtown | vs | | ------------------ | 10 seed | Comeaux | | **************** | 15 seed | Central Lafouche | vs | | ------------------ | 2 seed | Fountainebleau | | **************** |
Would you prefer to see something like this or the current set up???

and that's the problem. Everyone has a different opinon and there is no way to develop a power ranking. Teams play a different # of games and I have never found tournament games to be reflective of regular season games.

I think that observer is correct. My feelings are that there are probably around 28 truly playoff caliber teams in Division I. A 16 team format is too restrictive. You would be leaving out teams such as Chapelle, Destrehan, Hammond, Ponchatoula and Northshore etc that would be competitive with all teams seeded lets say between 6-16. After friday night the 16 survivors will all be "playoff caliber teams"

I did not want to go to 32 teams because I would have gone nuts so I just pretended it was a 32 team field and all top 16 top seeds moved on for arguement sake. I agree, we need to have 32 teams, especially in Div I.

Or how about world cup brackets, top two teams would advance... For arguements sake.
Bracket A 1-1 Byrd (WC) H L. B. 4-3 St. Amant 2-2 West Monroe
Bracket B 2-1 Ruston 1-4 Natch. Central 8-3 Chapelle 3-2 Lafayette
Bracket C 5-1 Mandeville 4-4 St. Joseph 7-3 South Terrebonne 1-2 Caddo Magnet
Bracket D 6-1 Hahnville 3-3 Comeaux 5-4 Ponchatoula 8-2 Dominican
Bracket E 3-1 Barbe (WC) Hammond 5-3 Northshore 7-2 Central Lafourche
Bracket F 8-1 Mt Carmel 7-4 S. Lafourche 6-3 West Jeff 5-2 Fontainebleau
Bracket G 4-1 Baton Rouge 3-4 Acadiana 2-3 Ouachita 6-2 Destrehan
Bracket H 7-1 Terrebonne (WC) Hammond 1-3 Airline 4-2 Dutchtown
You then do the following 16 team single elim....
A1 -vs- B2 B1 -vs- C2 ********* C1 -vs- D2 D1 -vs- A2 *************** E1 -vs- F2 F1 -vs- G2 ********* G1 -vs- H2 H1 -vs- E2
Bracket play would take place over a week in a half, then the rest would follow. It would call for the season to be cut a week shorter, which some coaches already want.

Barbedad20, What would be interesting would be a power ranking bracket when the season is over. Do it based on the order in which teams exited. For instance: HL Bourgeois, Destrehan, and West Jefferson all lost, so they would be 32, 31, and 30. Not necessarily in that order, their placement would depend on how far the team that beat them would advance. So don't take this the wrong way but, we will be waiting for YOU to have this done at seasons end. NO EXCUSES!! Ha Ha!
