:-/CNI 2:0 CPC
The band and cheerleaders put on a great soccer atmosphere as the Panthers (CNI) defeated CPC 2-0 in New Iberia.
CNI dominated the game, producing several quality opportunities throughout the game. CPC depended on counter-attacks and throw-ins deep in CNI territory for scoring opportunities.
There were several injuries during the game, two of which were the goalkeeper for CNI. I didn't see any contact and she appeared to have some sort of leg ailment.
CNI's chances on the net during the first half came in the 14th minute, when a shot ricocheted off the right post. 6 minutes later, a header from an open player about 10 yards out went wide right. CNI also had a great opportunity on a FK about 19 yards out in the 23rd minute. In the 38th minute, a CNI shot went straight to the CPC keeper. CNI continued to pound on the goal when a cross that beat the CPC keeper went just wide right as a CNI player slid to try to redirect it to the goal. Just two minutes later another CNI chance went unscored.
In the 46th minute, CNI got a lucky break when a CPC defender headed a throw-in and the CPC keeper committed, and the ball was lobbed over the keeper's head for the own-goal. Just two minutes later CNI used the momentum to add a second tally when a shot from 12 yards out went left-to-right and into the back of the net. In the 50th minute the CNI coach was warned for dissent. CPC # 10 was cautioned for unsporting conduct in the 58th minute, the game's only card. In the 62nd minute a CNI breakaway was stopped dead by the CPC keeper in an excellent play by both teams. CNI continued to play several thru-balls but none produced any scores. CPC attempted to make a last run at the CNI goal and was turned back when the shot went over the goalline.
CNI plays Sacred Heart in the semifinal match.
Overall, a great atmosphere by the band, cheerleaders, and announcer. Good luck CNI, great game CPC.
