The band played the ENTIRE time at my daughter's game last night. They were very loud and annoying, most of the time not playing any songs. We enjoyed the brief minutes of quiet when they took a break.
Not only is this annoying to fans, but I learned after the game that it affected play because the girls literally could not hear one another.
Should this be allowed? It is the first time I have ever seen this in many years of watching soccer. I'm all for school spirit and cheering, etc as I think soccer gets a bit dull at times, but I believe this type of activity should be prohibited- especially when it affects actual play on the field.

is a band louder than 30-40,000 screaming fans? Not to mean this rudely or anything but those kinda things are part of the game, granted I would rather screaming fans than a band but, as long as they aren't doing anything to the players to physically restrict them i don't think there's much that can be done.

Well, there are people who complain about not enough support of soccer, and then some start wanting to put rules around what kind of support they want to allow. If rowdy fans and bands became a natural part of the soccer crowd, I don't think this would be and issue. These 2 factors have been a natural part of high school football (same stadium, same setting for the most part), but because they have been a natural part, they have just become a given. I think having support of soccer is wonderful in whatever flavor, as long as they don't begin directly addressing the players on the field and distracting them. Music (or attempts at music by a band), loud crowds cheering, making noise, if it builds more fans in the stands, let's keep it going. After all, this isn't Golf! .... shhhhhhh, I'm about to putt !

the crowd wasn't that large........there weren't 30,000 fans screaming and cheering. there was 100 and you couldn't hear the refs whistle blow half the time. If that is what the home team wants than its just the price you pay for having the game played at someonelse's place.

CHSNI had a drum core band (the same one we had for football season) last night. We had them stop playing when asked. Would for someone to get an official word on this . We have had some refs say it was okay and other refs ask us to stop after complaints. We like having our drum core at our games and would like to know what the official rule is.

What do you mean by directly addressing? At some of the Fontainebleau home games, the football coach will "announce" the game, mainly saying things like "great goal by so-and-so" or "great play by goalie so-and-so." I don't think that is too much. Although I don't like the whole band idea. If it were to become a common thing like football games, that would be different. No, that is fine, we have the same thing. I'm talking about fans calling out players (by their number most of the time) and shouting directly at them (in regards to negative ways of shouting).

I was at the CNI game and I don't think it went to a point where the official had to worry about it. I liked the atmosphere at that game.

I bet this would not have been an issue if the person that is complaining team had won.

We paid for an announcer this year and he brought his music (edited) that was mostly soccer related songs. He didn't know much about calling the game except for goooaaal and the refs wouldn't let him play the music (even though it was not really loud) except before and after the game, during the half and he could play a clip when someone scored or when they were lining up again for game restart, so we were disappointed more music was not played.
It seems to add to the atmosphere and warm up is definitely much more upbeat when music is playing. However, we were told music was not allowed during the game, so I too would like clarification on the rules. I know noisemakers (airhorns, etc.) are not to be used during games, but I would not think the music would be so bad.

I really don't understand the ref's controlling so much of that. Yes, if it is too much or to disturbing, maybe so, but let the girls/boys play, let the crowd cheer, let the music play (cause it typically pumps up teenagers), and let's just have fun !

It was at the SSA vs SALMEN game not samen.
I was there and yes there could have been a few more moments of silence, but seeing as how the score was 6-0 i don't see your reason for coming on here and complaining. If you had a head ache then go take a pill and shut up, because the band obviously didnt effect your girls too much.
I played on Salmen's boys soccer team up until 05 when i graduated, but every time we had a home playoff or important game I loved to hear my school's band play, and I am going to remember that forever.

hes right.. SSA definatly had NO problem with Salmens band (obviously).. I know for a fact the band didnt cause any problems because I was on the feild playing. If anything, it caused problems for Salmen seeing that we lost 6-0. If football has it, why cant soccer? If it shows school spirit, why not? Stop being so selfish, if it was on your home feild you wouldnt be complaining

Have read some replies...note I wasn't waah waah whining and do agree that some additional hype is good...including having bands at games....simply asked the question if it should be allowed the ENTIRE game... ..my biggest problem with what happenned at Salmen is that it went on the ENTIRE game with very little interruption at all....
I have been to many high school and college football games and the band cranks up when certain plays are made ,etc.....they do not just beat their drums the ENTIRE game.....

if you can't hear the ref's whistle over the band, maybe he should be blowing it harder and louder so they can hear. when you're playing a game there are going to be people distracting you from the crowds if they have good fans, watch some of the games on tv and how every time they take a corner at the other team's end, the fans are talking crap the entire time. focus and zone it out. I'd rather it be screaming fans than a band playing but hey, nothing wrong with it.
