Looks like Dominican is the real deal. Lafayette High will have their hands full in the finals.

Congrats to Dominican for being the first team to qualify for a final. I need for someone associated with their program to email a team photo for the state final program to SVines@cs.com As of this morning, we had their roster but not their team photo.

Dutchtown gave up 3 goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. Dominican pushed well up, starting with three forwards and sending up midfield to play. Dutchtown struggled to get the ball up the field with their 2 forwards, and one of the forwards had to drop to get the ball, leaving one forward up by herself. They gave up another goal in a pk right before half. After half time, Dutchtown still didn't put many people up on offence, but they managed to hold on. They had a pk with about 13 or so minutes left to tie it up, but some of the girls weren't even going for the ball anymore. I think some of them had maybe given up.
I think Dutchtown was at least equal to Dominican, but Dominican showed up to play and Dutchtown didn't.

eleven, I agree with most of your recap. Definitely Dutchtown did not come out and play their normal game. At the same time give credit to Dominican for consistently being aggressive to the ball. Dutchtown started the first 5 minutes fairly decent getting the first 3 shots of the game 1 which went off the crossbar and 1 of the post. However, the game changed complexion when Dutchtown had a free kick from about 25 out, and Dominican was able to get a quick counterattack with a long ball and a shot that went over the keeper. The next 2 goals by Dominican were off assist by the Dominican goal keeper..... that's right I said the Dominican keeper. She punted the ball from her own 18 to the other 18 (we were playing on a shorter field) it one hoped and was finished. She would have had 3 assist but the third resulted in a PK after a foul was called in the box.
Your summary I think is pretty much on............. Dominican showed up to play, Dutchtown didn't.
Congratulations and Good Luck to the Dominican Ladies
Congratulations on a great season Lady Griffins !

I disagree that Dutchtown girls didn't come to play. They started hard, had several good opportunities early that just did not go their way, but Domincan then created some good things and had some other things go their way that led to goals.
No doubt the team got down after that, but I thought many Dutchtown players worked hard to the very end of the game. Dutchtown appears to have also played with three starters short/handicapped - one due to illness, a midfielder with a bad foot going in to the game, and a center midfielder that appears to have broken a toe in warm-up kicking a metal spring stuck in the ground that wasn't visible. That player was probably the one most obviously not going for the ball - she couldn't run last nite and can't even walk this morning. That field was unacceptable as a playing site, and the officials ducked their responsibility to act accordingly. Domincan is a fine team, quick and with good ball movement. They deserved the win. Dutchtown probably needed some things to go their way, and instead, as my Grandfather used to say, "if wasn't for bad luck they'd have had no luck at all."
Congratulations to both teams, and especially the Griffins, on a fine season.

I saw Dominican play in a tournament in December in New Orleans. They went 0-3 in the tourney but played some good soccer. It is no surprise to me that they advanced as far as they have in the playoffs. Whomever they meet in the finals, they will make it a good game. My hopes is that Lafayette High will be their opponent. Go LIons!!

Dominican was the better team last night and finally won a game in the playoffs because it deserved it. I know this may upset some, but Dutchtown did not belong in the last 4. I think there must be a better way to figure out the State Championship. The way the system works now the final four does not include the best 4 teams in the state.

Reddevil
YOU ARE PROBABLY RIGHT THAT THE CURRENT SYSTEM DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 4 BEST TEAMS IN THE STATE. USING YOUR LOGIC, DOMINICAN SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PLAYING EITHER LAST NIGHT. UNTIL THE SEEDING FOR TOURNAMENTS CHANGES, DUTCHTOWN DID EVERYTHING IT SHOULD HAVE DONE TO BE WHERE THEY WERE LAST NIGHT.TO SAY THEY DIDN'T BELONG IN THE LAST FOUR TEAMS IS OUTRAGEOUS AND EVEN CHEAPENS THE FACT, ACCORDING TO YOUR LOGIC, THAT DOMINICAN PLAYS FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP. AFTER ALL WHY SHOULD THEY ADVANCE WITH A WIN AGAINST A TEAM THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN THERE?

I think there must be a better way to figure out the State Championship. The way the system works now the final four does not include the best 4 teams in the state. I agree about the way the system (seedings in playoff brackets) being a bit odd, but still... the 4 best teams in the state are not guaranteed to make it there in the final 4 mainly b/c they can be beaten (this is assuming that the 3 of 4 teams you are talking about are MCA, Mandeville and Barbe). If your team is good enough to be considered the 4 best, they should have a better chance to play well against any team on any given day that is not considered the best 4 and win. Isn't that what it means to be the best? Though using the term "best" is arbitrary during the state tournament. Losing to a team that is not in the top 4 doesn't really mean a team is not as good as the other, but it is part of playing the game on any given day with all the variables put in (it's a round ball that bounces. Anything can happen). The team that can find the ways to win and makes the most of all opportunities usually comes out on top. The best teams won more than 20 games this season. But you can't win every game. In the state tournament, it doesn't matter if you're undefeated or have lost most of your games. Tournaments are unforgiving - everyone has to show up at that moment and play their best. Your records up to that point really don't matter anymore. Looking at Dominican, it seems like they started out their season slow but now the team has geled at the right time. Not bad for a team that has no seniors. Good luck to them.

I also want to say this - why does every one think that teams such as Dutchtown and Dominican do not deserve to be in the tournament?
Dutchdown was 2nd in their district (4-2), as was Dominican (8-2). Fontainebleau was ranked 2nd in their district (5-2)as well and look at where they are - in the semifinal. Why doesn't someone say that Fontainebleau shouldn't be in the playoffs? Mandeville is in their district and they were 1st (5-1). And when you look further, Lafayette (3-2) is ranked 2nd in their district as well. None of the teams left in the semis were ranked 1st in their district. So how are all of them not qualified to be there? So how does one determine the best 4 in a tournament? Are teams that are ranked 2nd in their districts not worthy to play?

Dutchtown actually finished first in their district (tied) but due to field conditions and weather at the time, conceided the 1st place seed in the playoffs to BRHS to avoid playing a playoff game on a nasty dangerous field. reddevil you are entitled to your opinion, but just because a team such as Dutchtown had somewhat of an off night, had 2 starters playing with injuries, and 1 senior starter at home in bed sick and therefore did not exactly get to execute as normal, doesn't mean they didn't belong there. They earned their spot and just had an off night on the field. It happens, these are teenagers we are talking about. Dominican belonged there as well. They worked hard beat the teams they needed to to get to where they are going, and I wish them all the luck on bringing home a state championship to silence the critics even further. stuckonsideline, the comment that the Dutchtown girls didn't come to play is made, because this was not the same focused girls that took the field against Byrd and St. Amant. This is not meant as a negative, it just happens in high school sports. It just wasn't our night, sometimes that is the case. Still a great season and good effort last night.
