Thruball Very thorough report on Terrebone - MC game. Resting starter in a game that did not count towards district play - especial injured keeper, was probably a wise move never know when one of those starters may get hurt and need to be replaced. Good to know how the back ups will preform. Woodlawn lost their keeper last year right before District play, now with the district they were in last year, they may not have made the playoffs anyway, but it sure made it more difficult on the coach trying to replace a senior, plus take one of the few soccer players off the field to replace her in goal made it doubly tough, so don't bemoan some younger players getting playing time in a game They won 5-2. Only the "'W's" at the end of the year not the score.

Lafayette High went to New Orleans this weekend and played 2 quality teams in Newman and Mt. Carmel. Alot of questions were answered this weekend, but many more to answer down the road in the St. Louis Tourney. The positive is there were under classmen that showed they may be one of the missing pieces, time will tell. Newman was a very good team and controlled the ball most of the game. The first goal came on an error by the keeper in which it seemed to hit her hands and go through her legs. The second was in the second half off a corner kick in which an UNMARKED player came in and nailed a beautiful header into the corner of the net past the second keeper of the game. These are things that are fixable though and I am sure they received a good chewing. But the analysis was a good one, we are not a bad team. The Saturday game vs. Mt. Carmel was also a well played game. Lafayette received a penalty kick early in the first half due to a push from behind in the box which knocked Chelsea to the ground while shooting. Chelsea put the shot in for the 1-0 lead. A BRIGHT spot for the lady Lions was the play on the keeper Ann-Marie Morella ( the 3rd used in 3 halves of play for the weekend). She made a jumping punch to knock a bullet shot by a Cub player which would have definitely gone in. The sophmore keeper may be making a case for a starting position. In the second half the Cubs put together 2 pretty quick goals against the second half keeper to lock up the win. This was a pretty evenly matched game with lots of action and quality soccer. As a fan, a good game to watch. Congratulations to the Lady Lions JV squad which defeated the Lady Cubs in a dominating fashion by a score of 1-0. The score was not indicative of the dominance by the Lions. Possession was probably 80-20 from what I saw trying to watch 2 games at the same time. Good Luck Lady Cubs on the rest of your season and will be looking forward to watching you play in our Lassie Le Bon Temp Roule (Let The Good Times Roll) Tournamentat the end of the month. Scores Lafayette 0 Newman 2 Lafayette 1 Mt. Carmel 2

St. Thomas More 4 Vandebilt 1
Score very mis-leading of this game. Vandy scored very early (probably in the 3 or 4 minute range) and kept the game very even throughout the first half. STM scored before halftime with a lazer from just outside the 18. 1-1 at the half and I would say a very even match. Vandy was playing without a couple of starters and the replacements played great. No excuses from anyone about missing players. STM may have been missing players too since they had a very small group on the bench.
The second half started pretty even and was a ditto of the first half for a good while. STM scored off of a long throw in that bounced around the box and eventually was put in for a score. This was probably the turning point of the game since the throw in should have been called back. I did see the girl step way over the sideline on the throw in with the ref standing right by her. None the less the call was not made and STM took a 2-1 lead. Their next score came on a similar ball in the box in which there must have been 10 or 12 players piled up in front of the goal going for the ball. At one point the goalie was clearly on top of the ball and the next it was in the back of the net. Again I have no idea how there was never a whistle but STM went up 3-1. The final score was off of a beautiful cross and one touch score.
It was a great game to watch and I can clearly see why these teams are at the top of their respective classes. Both teams have great speed, solid touch and play with a purpose and neither were afraid to play hard when needed.
Thanks to both teams for putting on a great show. Good luck the rest of the season.

Saturday 12-8-07 Neville - 3 OCS - 0
Neville had about 85% possession and played like they were asleep. Missing all-state forward and had a little trouble trying to find the offense.
