When does the LHSAA meet to consider and determine the wild cards? Who votes -- or is it strictly a Buster GuCZARdo decision?

Comeaux would be a worthy adversary as well. I do agree with you and I can promise you few teams would want to match up with Comeaux in the playoffs. Take it a step further and add Sulphur in the mix. This team went 0-8 in district but has wins over 3 playoff teams from District 4 and 5. But it is what it is and until we get true seeding, this argument will come up each year. My only complaint is that you do not have the best 32 teams in the playoffs. You have the placement of 30 teams and then the next best 2. It can not be that difficult for the LHSAA to come up with even a crude seeding system (much like volleyball) not perfect but at least an attempt to get the best 32 teams playing and not have the top teams meet in the first couple of rounds. Just my 1/2 cents (not worth 2 cents).

Hopefully as the LHSSCA gains more than a foothold in the membership, these issues will eventually be addressed. And to barbedad, the funny thing about the volleyball "seeding system" is that LHSAA utilizes computer software to compute the records for seeding. Certainly can be applied to soccer.

The playoff situation is not perfect but you need to look at the big picture. These are the playoffs to determine the STATE CHAMPION. If you lost 7 district games and finished 4th in your district do you really think you have a shot at the state championship? You proved in your district that you probably don't have what it takes this year. Are you better than teams that will make the playoffs? Possibly so but those teams didn't have the opportunity to play 6 games against the best teams in the state like your team did. Your team proved in district they couldn't win the state championship and these other teams will get their opportunity in the playoffs to prove if they are worthy. You should consider yourselves lucky to play in a strong district. My daughter plays in a weak district with 2 teams that have beaten all the other teams in the district without much effort. She would love to be able to play every distict game against someone competitive rather than to just look forward to 2 district games a season and then the playoffs.

I certainly can identify with that. Prior to this year Hahnville and Destrehan had 2 district games (against each other) in which games were competitive...the other 8 district games were washes against weak competition. It may not seem like a 7 loss 4th place team might not be a contender...but that's why the games are played.

I wish they would have left it like they originally planned 20 automatic berths & 12 wildcards.
Last year we had 8 districts in D1, the top 3 teams from each district plus 8 wild card teams made the playoffs. To be considered for a wildcard you had to come in 4th or 5th in your district. That allowed a tough district like D3 was last year, with 8 teams to get their 5th place team (New Iberia) in the playoffs. When the LHSAA first went to 10 districts they were going to put the districts 1st & 2nd place teams in the playoffs then have 12 wildcards teams. To qualify for a wildcard you had to come in 3rd or 4th in your district. That meant that a team could finish 4th in a tough district and advance to the playoffs over a 3rd place team from a weaker district. If it would have stayed like this you would have teams like Comeaux, Capt Shreve, Hahnville, Northshore, who all came in 4th, all would be going to the playoffs instead of some teams that come in 3rd in a weaker district and getting the automatic berth. I believe that would have been a better system then what we have now. (I’m not saying it would be better then seeding the top 32) Now it’s the top 3 teams in each district gets an automatic berth with only 2 teams getting a wildcard.

So with the Hahnville loss, the final WC will go to the winner of the Northshore/Ponchatoula game on Monday. Should be fun.

Based on your thoughts- Why do we not only take the first place team from each district to compete for a state title if only the "best" should advance for a state title. Allowing teams with a losing record to advance to the play-offs over teams with non-losing records is ridiculous. I think teams competing in the play-offs should be the top 32 teams in the state-plain, pure, and simple. Might I add- Look at 2 years ago in 2006 when Barbe, who was ranked third in their district, managed to compete in the state finals- ironically against their own district's first place team.
