I copied SJAdads post and put it in a new thread.
Div. I -- SJA 3 Captain Shreve 2 -- Goals by Jessica Fenner (2) [in the 43rd and 68th minutes] and Leah Aultman [in the 52nd minute]. Captain Shreve goals I believe both by their 5'10" forward No. 21 in the 69th and 78th minutes. SJA possession 75-25. Gimme a few -- I will post a detailed game report both here as an edit and in the D-5 thread.
Okay -- first -- hats off to Shreve. Their game is defend, counter-attack, and send long balls to No. 21 -- who is a terrific player [ShreveDad -- help me -- did you say her name is Abby?]. Unfortunately -- and I'm being objective here -- they didn't seem to find their groove offensively until the last 10 minutes -- although they did have a terrific opportunity in the 59th minute with a through ball to one of their forwards, who got by our sweeper, and got off their first quality shot.
But SJA really controlled this game. I would put possession at 75-25. SJA out shot Shreve probably 18-4. Jessica Fenner clanged two off the cross bar in the first 15 minutes. Kaitlin Hatcher launched two point blank shots over the goal.
SJA won this game with their midfield play. Whereas Shreve is a counter-attack team, SJA played some very nice ground ball possession tonight. Leah Aultman (No. 2) and Jessica Fenner (No. 7) really controlled play on the wings -- supported by Megan Aultman, Ashley Brunet, and Ellen Cleland on the back line. There was a lot of beautiful pass and flow -- we just couldn't finish.
Halftime score -- 0-0.
3 minutes into the 2nd half, Grace Gremillion sent a ball into the box to Maggie Eggers, who was taken down. Jessica Fenner converted the pk in the 43rd minute.
In 52nd minute, freshman Leah Aultman scored the goal of her young career by trapping a goal kick at the 35, juking out a couple, taking her time[/i] in maneuvering just outside the box, and then launching a rocket from about 28. Nothing but net.
In the 69th minute, Leah sent a cross into the box. Jessica Fenner gathered at the 6, and sent it home. 3-0 -- and Rosanne Barr started warming up, although Shreve did make it interesting late.
All told -- a solid effort by both teams. A good night at the Bank.

I have a lot to write about the match, our girls, St. Josephs, their coach and parents. I have nothing but great things to say about all of them. First I need to try and wake up and compose my thoughts. SJAdads comments on the match were right on the money. Had the chance to meet him after the match. I want to thank him for the great directions. More than 1 parent told me how nice it was to not have to put up with the terrible 5 PM traffic in BR.
Nice article about the match in our sports section from the Advocate but I couldn't find it on either paper's website. Hopefully, it will be up later and we can put a link to it.
Late night getting home. 12:30 for us and around 3 AM for the girls. They had bus trouble in BR and didn't get on the road until around 10:30.
More to come later.

Way to go Shreve. Sounds like you represented Dist 1 very well. Based on your showing up here I figured it would have been a blow out since they were district champs. Hopefully the rest of the Dist 1 teams will play as well as you guys did.

Congratulations to Shreve on a great season and representation of N. La in the playoffs. Thanks to Barbedad for posting the article. It's nice to know there are newspapers out there that will give these young athletes the recognition they deserve. We could use a paper like that in Shreveport.

I want to begin and then end with the girls. I thought our girls played one of their best matches of the year. Coach was only able to sub 2 or 3 girls into the match and 7 or 8 of them played the entire 80 minutes. Our starting goalie and 1 of our midfielders were on a school trip to Washington DC and missed the match. Cudo's to Emily Watson who traded her #15 for a keeper jersey and played fantastic in goal for our match against Magnet and then St. Josephs. We missed her in the midfield but she did a great job in the nets and made several good stops. Also want to mention Stephanie Hall. Stephanie is our center mid and has missed most of her senior year to injuries to both knees. If it hadn't been a playoff match and possibly her last one she wouldn't have been out there last night. Bad luck stuck again and she got nailed pretty good in the knee again and then just before the end of the half got a hard ball to the jaw. We have an oral surgeon dad and he is concerned she may have broken her jaw. Hopefully not, but she will find out this morning. Needless to say, it wasn't the way she wanted her soccer career to end. Want to thank a St. Josephs dad (physician) who came to check on her. We went into the match knowing one of our best midfielders would in the goal and another severely limited in her playing time and abilities. We knew we needed some good luck and for everyone to give it all they had. We got the good luck in the first half with St. Josephs hitting metal a couple of times and just missing on a few others. The 75-25 split on ball possession was pretty accurate. St. Josephs was very well coached, very aggressive, quick, and quite skilled. Their outside mids were quicker that ours which made it tough for our defenders and keeper. Our game all year has been try to and get the ball to our 2 forwards, (usually from long passes), and hope they could outrun the defense. St. Josephs defense was just as quick and did a real good job shutting Abbie and Caydence down until the last 10 minutes.
First score was on a tough call in the box. Our parents didn't think it should have been called. (No surprise there) My daughter who is the sweeper and had the call against her was distraught about it after the match but said they got their feet tangled and the St. Joes striker went down. Tough call but the right call. First thing she said when I talked to her after the match was " Daddy we lost because of my pk call." Not true Katie, but such is the life of a sweeper. Second goal was on a great shot over the keeper and just under the crossbar. Last goal for St. Joes was one from in close.
Down 3-0 our girls could have quit, but they played perhaps their best 10 minutes of soccer the entire year at the end. Everyone gave it all they had and we finally scored when Abbie got a pass from Caydence and scored. A few minutes later Abbie beat her defender and scored again. 2 minutes to go and down 1 goal. We tried hard but nothing happened for us and it was over.
Congrats to a very good St. Joseph's team. I hope they can keep it up and win a few more matches. They were strong and skilled all the way thru the lineup. I want to thank SJAdad for his help and also thank the coach for doing everything he could to get this match in last night. Our coach is a senior at Centenary and needed to be in San Antonio on Friday for a grad school interview. She will be on the road today and really needed the match to be played on Wednesday. She was really complimentary of their coach and how helpful he was. Also want to thank the parents of their team for arranging to have pizza delivered to our girls for after the match. Once again very classy.
For our girls I want to thank all of them for giving it everything they had all year. We weren't a deep team and to be successful on the field this year we needed an injury free year to some of our key players. We didn't get that but still had a good season and saved our best for last. Lots of tears flowing after the match by both players and parents, especially the seniors. Several of the seniors are the babies of their familys and like ours their soccer days are done.
Its been a fun ride at Shreve, 6 years, 3 kids and too many great memories to count. 15 years of soccer for our family are now over. Time to take up golf again.
Once again, thanks and congrats to St. Josephs. Thanks to our coaches for giving our girls a great year. And most of all, thanks to the girls for giving all of us the thrills and enjoyment of watching our children competing and having a lot of fun. Nothing is better than that!!

Terrific post, ShreveDad. It was a great game. We all were extremely impressed with how you didn't quit -- especially after the goal to go down 3-0 -- you roared down field off the kickoff, and Abby scored maybe 8 seconds after the kickoff. Very impressive. Best of luck to your team, your seniors, and returning underclassmen. Your team, coaches, and parents have a lot of class.

Congratulations to Shreve for a great season. My daughter plays with Caydence and Emily Watson and Caitlin Abney on the U-15 Select team and they are great players and I know they will take what they've learned this high school season into the select season and we will have a great spring.

ShreveDad, I know all 3 of your kids are finally done with soccer, and you deserve a break from all that you have done for both Boy's and Girls team's at Shreve. I can truely say it has been a blessing having you around for so many years, and I cant say thank you enough for the things you have done for the Shreve boys team. You have represented the Shreve soccer family in the up most respect, and I hope everyone in the state can appreciate the time and effort you have devoted over the years at Shreve, and the soccer community. Although your kids are done with soccer, I know soccer is in your blood, and I hope you stick around for atleast a few more years. Just like any senior playing in their last game, You will truely be missed, until I see you again on saturday at the boy's playoff game. THANK YOU AGAIN!!

Well done Shreve! Y'all are a great team! I know the seniors are sad to call it a year, but good luck to your underclassmen for next year.

Would Cat Savage would have made a difference in the game the other night? Guessing she must have been Shrevedad was referring to when saying a couple of the girls were in Washington DC? Think that trip will be remembered longer than one soccer playoff game.

OOPS sorry wrong school. Glad to hear Stephanie will only have difficulty eating for a few days. Painful injury, even walking can be troublesome when your jaw hurts. Will pray for a speedy recovery for her.
