How Leanne Johnson doesn't make first team and win defensive MVP is beyond me. This is not meant to criticize the defensive MVP selections, but Leanne was an absolute vacuum cleaner at sweeper -- at least for the games I witnessed, and for which I will acknowledge were maybe 5% of all the district games played. I certainly defer to those more in the know. And please don't "smite" me. I'd like to go at least one week without being smited.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Leanne play midfield for her club team? With her size and athleticism, she's a force at center-mid. Sorry to hear of the probs with the coach.

SJA Dad,
Thank you for the nice comments about Leanne. Looking at the league scoring table absent games involving the inflated scoring against E. St. John does tell a story about the Dutchtown defense.
Dutchtown 24 PF 3 PA EA 10 PF 12 PA St. Amant 18 PF 14 PA Hahnville 5 PF 14 PA Destrehan 7 PF 22 PA
Dutchtown gave up virtually nothing compared to any other team in District. While none of the Dutchtown back line or keeper made first team mention, the results speak for themselves.
With any luck, she'll be laying more midfield next year. Unfortunately, she played so little at mid this year, in spite of promises that she would, that when she was needed up front in emergencies she probably wasn't as effective as she could have been, although I think she still was one of the assist leaders with all the corners and long feeds to Cruthirds & Gibbs.
We're really hoping for a lot of changes for next year, though, and with the returning players and with what I hear about the incoming personnel perhaps Dutchtown can actually fullfill a little of the potential that was missed this year - strange as that sounds.

if a player is really talented, then he/she should be able to switch easily from a sweeper to a midfield position, especially if mid field is a place where he/she is already familiar. a high school team is so different from club because most coaches don't have many quality players. so a good, team player should be happy to help the team by playing whatever position is needed.
all parents can support their children and the team by not undermining team mates and coaches; and if parents/players don't like the way a team is run, they have the option not to play.
curious as to what changes might be on the wish list.........

District 6 - there are 6 teams in your district in which E.St. John was not very good I presume. So out of a total of 66 starting players 1 was from E. St. John. So from the other 5 teams of 55 starters 42 players made the all district team, either 1st or 2nd team. What about the other 13 players? Doesn't everybody want them to feel good too?
I wish things would go back to the way they use to be when the All District meant something. There is no reason why the coaches can't get together and pick the BEST 11 players and call that the 1st team. Sure someone that you think should be there would be left off, but TOUGH. Let that be the fire that drives the player to touch the ball in the off time and make themselves a better player. If coaches could just have the B***s to say that my player IS NOT the best at that position that your is, mine belongs on second team, then it would mean something. If some teams get left out, then maybe you weren't as good as mommy and daddy said you are.
Come on lets face the facts. Teams in district play each other twice and the coaches should write down the players name and number of any girl on the other team that may have impressed them in that game (if any). At the end of the regular season they would have an idea as to who are the best players in the district and THOSE players would be awarded for the skills they possess. If the 1st place team has the best 11 players in the district, then they should be nominated as such. A true 1st team ALL DISTRICT team. Sounds harsh but people need to be honest with their children and themselves and vote on the BEST players in the district.

I actually agree with sokerfan on this one, but i don't know why he/she is typing this rant in the middle of the night, but you are right. This is h.s. all district team and not everyone deserves a trophy, this is not rec anymore. There ahould be a 1st and 2nd team or a 1st team and honorable mention (22 players total and maybe even stretch to 24 if there is a tie that just can't be broken.)

I won't specify a district, because I don't think any official announcement has been made, but, in our district (6 teams) this year they named Overall, Offensive, and Defensive MVP's, as well as 3 players per position (forward, mid & defense) and a Keeper for a total of 23 players (1st & 2nd team). While this is a definite improvement, it's not without controversy....I guess some improvement is better than none.

every fan/parent will have favorite when it comes to selecting players for honors. I happen to concur that coaches should try to keep track of players on the teams they play against that are outstanding should be noted. I would submit further that each coach should be limited to how many of his own players he should be allowed to submit for consideration. If someone from your team is suggested by another coach and voted to the team fine High School X gets more players selected than anyone else, in this case if one of the other coaches from District 6 had nominated one of Dutchtown's back 5 for first team and the coaches voted her on to the first team, that would be fine. This philosphy that because you win the district should mean you get so many spots on first team and then as you go down the order of how you finished determines how many players get first team is wrong. The way jus4kicks suggest the honors be selected while it may not be perfect is pretty darn close. I think tihs would be an ideal formula if you did not allow a coach to vote for his only players but let his peers decide who truly are the best without bias and he could vote for the players on the other team in the district..

In a perfect world the coaches should vote for the best players, but it's not.
How about players such as Megan Romair and Erica Sweeny who should be on either 1st team or 2nd team over players from various schools other than Dutchtown (Not talking about Leanne or Lexi or other D-town personel). They are better than anyone from at least 2 teams in the district, and only one player from another team is ranked higher than them in my opinion as she is a quality player.
It is what it is! So whatever
