Newman beat ED White 7-0 and St. Louis beat Runnels 7-0 and they both advance to the Semifinals to face each other this Friday at Newman. Its seems like we need a power ranking system so these two team could possibly meet in the finals, but so be it. I am looking for a great soccer match with these two teams. Thoughts??

No disrespect to ASH and CHNI, but this should be the final - two district winners competing for the finals while the second place teams from the respective districts earn a spot in the final, as a result of the seedings. As has been mentioned in numerous posts - St. Louis crushes everyone in their way. Don't see Newman scoring on St. Louis' defense.

I am looking forward to this match. St. Louis has been knocked out of the playoffs by Newman each of the past three years.. This Friday I believe the best team will win. No Excuses about Newmans Crazy humpbacked field or referees or anything else. If the best team happens to be St. Louis then I suggest you buy stock in Budweiser. If Newman Wins I suggest you buy stock in kleenex

afan....agreed that STL and Newman won their district. So if we take that approach then it would have been the Dallas Cowboys playing the NE patriots. Though both teams are great; all games must be played and won on the field. I am sure that STL and Newman are deserving on playing in the final but since that is the system the LHSAA has right now; then we must adhere to them and play the games out. I am sure that ASH and CHNI will play their game and will show up to play the final. Unles the championship should be awarded to the other semifinal winner just because they were district champions.

I am no fan of Newman but you have to give credit where credit is due, this is the fastest, most technically, tactically sound Newman team I have seen in 5 years. They lost against St Louis this year by only one goal. I believe each team has one bad day and it was probably one of them. With all due respect for St Louis I don't think they can beat them this year.

I've seen both teams play versus my Daughters this season. This game will be fun to watch. St Louis's speed will truly show on Newman's new artificial surface. Newman is a well coached, experienced team that will give St. Louis trouble especially on their corner set plays. It will be very close but I give the edge to Newman. Good luck to both teams.

Contrary to afan's above prior post not enough credit is being given to ASH's field play which is superior to St. Louis's. St. Louis has been able to score mainly from set piece play or from long thown-in's. That plus their intensity and speed of play probably will not be enough to get them past the semis as with the past. If they are successful I think that the ASH second pace district finisher will give them all the game they can handle or CHSNI who lost 2-1 at st. louis the last time they played.

A word on CHSNI game with St. louis. If you look at the first game played between these two teams this year at CHSNI you will see the score was 6 -1 with CHSNI goal comming on a PK. The game these two teams played at st. louis was during a strong rain storm. The field lines had to be moved in 5 yards on each side to get out of standing water and the field has been unplayable since that game. But go ahead and underestimate St. Louis if you like

Thunderstorms are forecasted for Friday-let us not hear any excuses from st louis supporters about weather or Newman fans who believe their first loss against st louis was a bad day. Both teams can show their true worth in a good semifinal(not final) game.

I "borrowed" MY comments on DIII quaters from another stran.... There is no doubt that these 4 teams can play with ANY DII team and are very competitive with any DI team. ALL 4 are winners, IT SHOULD BE A GREAT QUARTERFINAL!
"Look... I have watched alot of soccer and some matches are hard to predict. And for the interest of full discloser, I missed some big ones this year. ie MY head is still spinning that Carencro beat Acadiana (boys). And I picked Tuerlings girls to upset Parkway (Parkway by PKs)..... BUT I still say (and I am perfect in my DIV III girl picks) ANY OF the quarterfinal teams can win. ALL are well coached. Each have a different weakness. BUT ALL ARE VERY COMPETITIVE. ASH CAN win it all. I think CHS can win it all! I haven't seen Newman this year, I know from friends they can stay with St. Louis. YES, I am not a fool, I seen St. Louis several times. (vs STM, Vs CHS AND several tourney matches it will take THE OTHER 3 a perfect match to pull off an upset. But looking at DIVISION III girls soccer ----- you can say ----- GIRLS SOCCER IN LOUISIANA HAS ARRIVED!.. Watch future LSU, ULL teams and you will start seening more Louisiana players!"

Being a supporter of new orleans sports i am very proud of the girls from Newman. In fact I have baked some cookies which I would like to deliver to the team about one hour before the game. They are exlaxent cookies that I am sure the girls would enjoy

Hey guys listen to what Newman is doing to St Louis. The girls and boys team play Newman for semi final. Newman has declined to play both games on Friday night. Instead of St Louis being able to get a bus, go play games and return to Lake Charles. Now the team has to take both teams over on Friday night and get hotels to spend the night or make two trips to New Orleans. The cost of travel is expensive but try to get a hotel room in New Orleans this weekend. NBA allstar game in town and limited rooms available plus double and triple rregular rates. So, do you think Newman is trying to cut down on the Saints fan base at the game. If both games were on Friday I think that the Saints would out number the Greenies. The Saints will probably out number them at both games anyway.
How about a little courtousey (sp) ?

In response to mike123 it baffles me how people make irresponsible claims about situations they know nothing about on this blog, but I guess that is the nature of allowing anyone to post on a blog. Yes, it is true Newman girls and boys are both playing St Louis boys and girls in the semifinals of the state playoffs. It is also true that both schools (including Newman) were looking forward to a Friday night double header, much like two years ago. The girls played their quarterfinal game on the last playoff day, Monday vs ED White. The Newman boys requested to play Monday but their opponent on Monday also, the say day St. Louis boys played. However, St. Charles refused to play. Per LHSAA rules, the game then must be played on the final play date, Tuesday. New Orleans experienced terrible weather, with many tornadoes ripping through the metro area. In fact, Newman lost power for several hours in the late afternoon due to the severe weather. As a result the game was cancelled and scheduled for Wednesday night. The Newman boys played an intense and very physical game against St. Charles. The boys coaches at STL will verify how physical this game was as they were in attendance. It was not practical for the Newman boys to play another physical game only two days later when the STL boys had played the quarterfinal match on Monday. I am sure Coach Jason Oertling, if his team was in a similar position would do the same thing not because he is trying to put an opponent at a disadvantage but because it is in the best interest of the student athletes he coaches. I would like to think all coaches would act in the best interest of their school and student athletes to be fair to players and not to be un-courteous to fans in anyway. It also makes sense to play games as soon as possible at this time of year so as to avoid any weather delays. I also belive purpose of this blog would be to discuss games, players and enjoy the beautiful game for what it is, not to disparage anyone, any team or program
