Many entry level referee clinics have been scheduled for August around the state. If you have an interest in becoming a referee, go to www.referee-la.com/local_clinics.html the course locations and contacts are there if you would like to explore this route. We are always looking to add referees to the corp that we have. Shortages still exist and we are always looking for a few good men...and ladies. And FYI, a grade 9 referee is a "recreational referee". A shorter course, the referee here can only be assigned to games at the D1 level, U14 and below. Grade 8 is the entry level referee course that fully explores all the Laws and not just select ones as the grade 9 course. If you are a grade 9 referee, the "bridge course" will allow you to move to a grade 8 referee and "bridges" the learning gaps between the two grades.

The referee clinics in the Baton Rouge area are mainly Grade 8 level clinics. I don't recall seeing a grade 8 badge in the BR area. I have seen them from NO and Lafayette. We can always use more referees.

No one in N.O. is giving 09 clinics. Most all of our 09 refs are are in the outlying areas like Houma, St Charles, northshore.

We can always use more referees. Grades 3-8 are black badges with the distinct grade being either National (3 & 4), State (5 & 6) and Referee, Class 1 & 2 (7 & 8). The blue badge you see is for 9 - 12. The blue badge is restricted to certain level games. Most badges you see in Baton Rouge will be grade 8.

Alexandria had one this past weekend. Fourteen people attended and 13 passed. There is a waiting list for the next class... high school football REALLY kept the numbers low.

I see them often in my area.
