Just a bit of info. Of the 13 referees that were taken to regionals, 6 were noted in the top referees and assistant referees. Of the top 25 referees, 5 were from La. Thats an astounding number. They were Kathryn (BR), Tyler and Mark (Laf), Veronica (N.O.) and Alex (Covington). Joey from BR was in the top 25 Assistant referees. Overall a really good showing with 7 referees showing in the top group. This puts us just behind S. Tx with 9, N Tx with 8 and Fl with 7. To speak of our referees in that group is indeed a proud achievement. This entire group was an outstanding group of referees to attend and they all represented La well.
Overall it was an exhausting week, but one where the referees had a good time and also learned a lot.
As a side item, Veronica (N.O.) and Mark (Laf) also attended the Region 3 Amateurs where Mark did the middle on one of the men's semis and Veronica had the men's middle. Veronica was also chosen to attend the National Amateur regionals later this summer in Seattle.
These are very great achievements for some of our referees but we know we have work to do. If any referee would like to be considered for these events in the future, the one requirement is you must be a grade 7 or higher (unless you are one of our youth referees of the year). I can promise one thing, you talk to anyone who attends and they will all tell you it is a great experience. One that many make life long friends from around the regions and also inspires referees to do better for the next year.
Congrats to all our referees on their accomplishments.
