Randel taken down in the box. Keeper saves Randels PK. Covingtons keeper is having a good game.

Good work Colin! Unlucky about the effort of the CHS team as a whole, but I bet CHS' keeper Colin has kept the score a lot closer than it could have been. Good work Shreve though for pulling out (assuming nothing happens with the time remaining) the win and heading to the PIT for a big game later this week!

The covington GK did keep this game a 3 point game. He made many great saves tonight. Score could have been 5 or 6 - 0 if it wasn't for his play tonight. My hat is off to him.

Lots and lots of very good saves including the penalty. Also #3 for Covington was Randel's shadow the whole match. He did a good job defending Connor. Connor had some chances, just couldn't find the net. Shreve scored 40 seconds into the match and never looked back. Covington had some good chances with free kicks in both halves. I'll save the analysis for fiend. Way to go Shreve and good luck Thursday at St. Amant!!

Actually, weather is a big issue this week. Wednesday is predicted snow and freezing rain up here in Siberia. If Shreve has to travel on Wednesday for the Thursday game, it could be a big problem. Hopefully, the LHSAA will be as charitable to Shreve as it as to Covington to give them until tonight to play. In the meantime, Shreve has to win the game tonight or it is a moot point!! GO GATORS!! so very true happyjack doesn't know what he's talking about. who wants to play in SNOW???

Congratulations Connor, Chris & the rest of the Shreve team. Hope y'all can come out to the CM/J match on Thursday. Should be a good game. God willing, maybe the Jays will see Shreve in the finals! Continued Good Luck to you all.

Wow what a long day. First of all I would like to say congrats to Captain Shreve for the win. They were the better team and deserved to win. As for not playing on Sunday, a travel ban was in effect until noon Sunday in Shreveport and the bus company we used would not tavel. Yes the bus broke down and the 10 HOUR trip, deisel fumes, headeaches and nausea weren't fun. Having only 20 minutes to warm up wasn't what I would have liked but to be fair, that didn't come from Captain Shreve. I feel that had a bit to do with the early goal as my guys were flat to start. As for Goats response that it could have been 5-0 or 6-0, I would beg to differ. We had 3 or 4 EXCELLENT shots on goal that their keeper made great saves on. At 1-0 they hit the post and it went in (on a beautiful shot BTW). At 2-0 we hit the crossbar. If lady luck is with us it could have been 1-1 or 2-1 at worst at that point. I guess goat saying 6-0 makes it easier for him to believe the whole "northshore region is overrated" thing he professes. The bottom line is that my guys played well. To say otherwise would take away from an excellent showing by Captain Shreve. I feel they were a legit two goals better than us and deserved the win. They are talented and well coached. They move the ball beautifully. I thought that the game was clean, well played, and well officiated. Both teams played hard but played it in the right spirit. Colin Mansfield is a very good keeper that would be the top keeper in quite a few districts around the state. He just so happens to be lumped in with Hilton at Northshore and Tarbell at Fontainebleau so he kind of gets overlooked. In addition to Mansfield in goal, Austin Inman (#13) and Stephen Baudean (#4) both had excellent matches for us. Will Sanches (#3) has made a career of making it tough on the other teams better players ( Bonfiglio at St. Thomas and Mcinnis at St. Paul). Both Austin and Stephen forced excellent saves from Shreve's keep. Through the two of them we were able to move the ball well at times, especially with Kidder and Pineda up top. We just lacked the overall quality that Shreve has and therein lies the difference. I don't know all of the names for the players on Shreve's squad but a number of them (most) played very well. As I said from the start, the better team won and I congratulate them. Good luck Shreve the remainder of the playoffs. I thought your team played and won with class and should be commended. You are a quality side with quality players and coaching that I will be pulling for. Good luck and good health. Coach Inman -Covington

Coach I have always liked and respected you. Your team played hard the entire game and yes they did hit the crossbar on two occasions and the Shreve keeper did make two excellent saves. So for the sake of argument let’s say they all go in, Cov scores four. However if we use the same logic with regard to shreves post ringing and the GREAT saves from your keeper the final score would have been 9 or 10-4! A lopsided victory for Shreve either way. My last post was intended NOT to prove any LOGIC about your district but to give props to your goalie who played a great game, (please reread my post). Sorry you didn’t take it that way. Next time I’ll just state the facts and in this case like you said the main fact is, “They (Captain Shreve) were the better team and deserved to win.”

I picked this game 3-2 and given a clean trip up on time thats how it might have wound up. (and as co-champion of round 1 picks 15/16...Catholic loss in PKs did me in on the sweep--oh well) anyway. I agree with 98% of everything Coach Inman said I would only slighlty disagree with both teams playing very clean, have to mark the Lions down from A+ to A- for 3 chippy ones (one a little more dangerous than the other two) late in the game when frustration and fatigue were setting in for both sides. Best compliment I can give is that Shreve went 1 deep off the bench forcing its starters to play almost the entire match. What can I say about the Covington keeper not already said, I will try and get some footage up before Thursday, I also have to give huge props to our own Keeper Zach Kahre who came up big several times last night. Zach is one of two of our senior keepers' Zac is the "football" guy and Travis is the "baseball" guy, Zach has come a long way since his first season last year. I really saw some confidence in himself and his interaction with his backline, those same sure hands he has on the football field were in evidence last night. He has really matured as a keeper this season and all of Gator (Shreve) nation is proud of his effort. Also coming up big was Senior Midfielder Christopher Hammond (scoring 2 goals), who was moved up top from his traditional winger when Covington marked, (and double marked) Randel up top, who was forced back into the midfield so he could see the ball with regularity. Usry with the header (from a corner) 50 seconds into the game and would have had another in the second half but an alert Lion defender cleared it off the line because it had the goalie beat (one of a very few times). Our defenders (including the return of Chris Lawrence with a big old brace on that knee) did a good job of shutting down some speedy guys up top for the Lions limiting them to several good chances and a handful of half chances. Glad to see Shreve step it up in their set piece defense (corners and free kicks)... Felt that Shreve was just several players better overall. Unfortunate travel snafu probably caused this game not to be as close as I expected but exciting nonetheless, its always fun to watch teams from other parts of the state and their approach to the game, now we get the short week and the travel to Gonzales...

oh and I have never thought Northshore "district" was overrated ....as far as Northshore (the school) I still have (not doubts just unanswered questions) NISH will be a great test, after the close game between NHS and SPS i became half way convinced, but NHS goes to OT with Covington? and shootout with F-Bleu..its hard to gauge relative strength when these teams all have such strong keepers, you see a score but you don't know if it was bad finishing or great goal keeping...one thing I learned last night is how a top goalie can keep you in a game, one thing all three of these teams have NHS, F-BLue and Covington best of luck to NHS @ home with NISH

I'm sorry I read into your post wrong Goat (it was 3 am when I posted . In short, as I said before, the better team won. However, I certainly don't feel we were dominated and 10-4 IMO is a stretch (as is 6-0...which is what caught my eye in your first post). Nontheless, you are more than entitled to formulate your own opinion. We are realistically the 5th place team from our district (Mandeville had to swap spots as a result of an admin error with LHSAA) and I feel we played well -especially considering the circumstances. As Goat noted (and correctly so imo) our keeper did come up big...but so did theirs. They are a quality side and I wish them the best. As always, good luck and good health. Coach Inman

Whoever number 8 was for Covington impressed me. He was playing dime balls and pulled off one of the sickest bikes I have ever seen.

His name is Bryan Pineda and he is a Freshman (Sophomore in standing due to his age). He didn't fail etc, he just got hung up with massive paperwork post 9/11. He has a tremendous upside.
