To answer your question, no I do not, just using this as an example. Do you not think this had ramifications of being a conflict of interest to fans from the other team. I'm sure it did. Do I know the ref, certainly not. I'm sure he has the utmost respect and credibility from his peers.

cowboy05 any doubts on how good calvary is now? The played byrd to a 2-1 loss. With a break away or two missed by calvary forward. WATCH OUT CAV haters they are back! CAV haters? Not sure what or who that might be. Calvary is a good team but not as strong as Teurlings. Lets be honest Byrd dominated possession and shots on goal.

Do I know the ref, certainly not. I'm sure he has the utmost respect and credibility from his peers. There are a lot of things that go into assigning a ref to a certain game. Perhaps he was the only one available? Or, perhaps the local assignor felt that he was the only one available that he felt had the capability to ref what was going to be a hotly contested game? I am sure that if the assignor felt that this person had a conflict of interest that would affect his ability to call the game, he would not have assigned him to do the match. If this person is going to be the coach for the opposing school next year, I can understand how fans would question his being able to call the game. However, I am sure that the assignor would have taken that into consideration. Again, I can tell you that if one of the local refs showed up to ref a game where my daughters team was playing against his daughters team, it would not bother me a bit. Of course, this is because I know the refs and trust their integrity. I would say that your local assignor probably had the same trust in this man. I wish I could have seen the game. I bet it was a doozy. And, remember, it is just soccer (don't tell my wife I said that).

I have not seen anything on this board that would justify such a statement. In the Calvary/Byrd game, Calvary played about as good a game as they possibly could and Byrd was still able to control most of the game. That being said, this was a game that ended 2-1 and if Calvary is able to finish a couple of great opportunities, they actually win this one. Like wise if Byrd finishes some of their great opportunities, well, it's not even close. This was a fun game to watch. Both teams played very hard and for the most part it was a clean, competitive game. I think it was a great pre-playoff game for Calvary and I don't really think Byrd could be very disappointed either. To all on this board, I would ask that Calvary or it's players not be judged by the comments of one. This team has worked hard, like all teams do and will play with a lot of heart, like all teams do. Everyone has the right to support their team in whatever way they see fit, but the entire team or attitude of that team should not be determined by the tone of one or two. Like most teams, this is a great group of kids. Good luck to all in the playoff season!

The Byrd/CBA game was a great one. I expected the loss, because Byrd is such a powerhouse here with a deep, deep bench. I feel for kids coming to Byrd wanting to play soccer. Gonna be tough battling for playing time with the studs (I know, wrong term for girls, but can't think of one that fits better) they've got. But the Lady Cavs came to play, and played a fantastic game.
They can't hang their heads after that loss. One goal scored on a break-away, and one on just a flat out beautiful shot. The defense stepped up and fended off attack after attack.
Can't be prouder of those CBA girls. And thanks to Byrd for a clean game and a great show of sportsmanship, which appears to be a dying philosophy in these parts these days.

Two great posts from wintheball and mirraddydad. I believe I saw a Byrd defender tying the shoe of a Calvary striker in the second half during action on the other end as the Calvary girl had her wrist and hand taped. Great show of class and sportsmanship! Sometimes we think this game is more important than it really is!

Steven Gerrard, I respect your knowledge of the game and what you do for it, but, do you really believe all referees are objective and do not have their own agenda? Case in point, godswill24's reply #20, dated Jan. 29, a CR is going to be a head coach at Loyola next year and was involved in a crucial call. It certainly makes a plausible case. We have been in the playoffs the last couple of years. The one thing that I have come to realize is that the deeper into the playoffs you go, the better the officiating. During district play no one knows what kind of affiliations these local refs have with any particular coaches or players. Local refs tend not to call certain things for whatever reason, but, when you go into the playoffs you get more professional refs who call the game as it should be called. The problem is the girls do things all year long with no penalities, then when they do get into the playoffs everything is called. Not questioning, just throwing this out there for thought. Any takers??? For SSA's big games (i.e. FHS, Mandy, MC, etc.) there will more than likely be a very good ref (State) in the center. The same type of refs you see deeper in the playoffs. I was not there, but if the center was who I think it was, no one in the ref or coaching community would be surprised if he was the man in the middle in the state championship game, boys or girls. You may disagree with the calls, but he is as solid as anyone in the state.

For the record, the CR of the Loyola - Calvary game that has been discussed, is not going to be a head coach at Loyola next year. It is important that people who do not know the facts, do not spread rumors on this board.

Would you care to also fill us in on the suspected connection to Loyola??? Not that it matters, but please "tell it like it is". While we are telling all of the facts, please, tell all of the facts.

The CR ref that was reported by Godswill24 to be the next head coach (for an inexplicable reason) was coach at Loyola years ago when my older daughter who plays in college was at Loyola. I think he was only coach for one year and moved away due to his other job. While I like him as a person, I was not impressed with his coaching that year as he had a stud forward (former all-stater Jordan Smith who due to injuries was never really able to play at Centenary) and all his offensive plays ended with "pass the ball to Jordan" so that she could be high scorer for Shreveport-Bossier that year. It was embarassing when she needed to score 8 goals in the last game of the year (against Northwood I believe) to get the "title" and she got 9. It was not fun to play on that team in 06-07and based on that year I as a parent would have an issue with him coming back to Loyola. That being said, I have a senior who has started all four years with the current regime and have been very pleased that Coach Heather has a no nonsense approach to playing, does not cater to prima donnas on the team, schedules tough games (and tournaments-ouch!) and has coached the team through multiple injuries, illnesses and absences of one player due to other sport commitments this season (mine-for which I am grateful). Also, Loyola fielded a JV team this year for the first time in 5 seasons which bodes well for the future of the Flyers as well as reinforces that more girls are interested in soccer at LCP due to the success of the program and is a positive reflection on the current coach.

Thank you...but I believe godswill reported that the CR would be coaching at Loyola. I don't see any mention of the CR being a Head Coach, but there is much more to this story as it applies to today's connection. I vote we just let this one die. We are gonna continue to skate around this one because it gets to personal. Let's just let it go and move on to the playoffs. Good luck to all.
