Last year Magnet had to travel to Grace King in the first round.

And for money I was told that the home team pays 60 cents for every mile the opposing team travels and the money at the gate is split 50/50

i didn't know they split gates and paid milaeage. In fact i thought most of it went to LHSAA through the coahes. Funny that magnet had to go to grace king but nothing was made of it to this year. The top ten teams in the final Coaches poll no matter how screwed up it is get seeded. By this they are place away from each other in bracket obviously. Then the districts follow up with the first second and wildcard placed teams. They are placed so that no district team faces another until the third round unless one of the teams was seeded. Then they can meet in the second. No reason a lower district opponent should be able to bypass their more quality indistrict foe. Thats the part about being made to beat the best on any given day. Anyone i think this system would work

Coach Ray, what two top teams are playing in the first round this year? In the first round there are no matchups between laprep top tens and there are only 2 potential second round matchups between top ten teams AND the travel distances have been minimized. Unlike last year where St. Paul's and Bro Mart played in the first round and GK had to go to Caddo. This year Catholic BR(6) and Mandy(10)and Bro Mart(2) v Rummell(8) cold meet in the second round. Also there isn't ONE second round matchup that doesn't have the possibility of featuring a top ten team. As for district rivals having to play in the 2nd round...There are only TWO possible scenarios where this could happen. Covington/Mandy and Rummell/Bro Mart. That isn't too bad as far as I'm concerned in light of how bad past brackets have been.
I think you're just upset that you have to come to Lafayette on Saturday rather than play a weaker district 2 team....

as for the playoff money... LHSAA gets 5% of the gross. The teams split all gate revenue 50/50 AFTER the following deductions: 1) 5% of Gross Gate to LHSAA 2) Officials 3) Traveling team paid $0.60/mile ONE WAY, map milage. read the complete bylaws here: www.lhsaa.org/sportsfiles/soccer/soccerbylaws.pdfI am sure what's left over isn't a whole lot for the schools to split, if anything. Actually, I'd be willing to bet that last year's caddo/gk gate didn't even cover the 60 cents/mile one-way travel reimbursement. As for Puma's take on football teams traipsing across the state...Have you been to a high school football game? I assume the answer is yes. Have you been to a high school soccer game? Again, I assume the answer is yes. Did you notice any difference in the crowd sizes of the two events? Football brings in a lot more revenue than soccer does. Therefore, football programs are in a better financial position to travel longer distances.

The only thing I think they screwed up with is the Ehret/W.Easton 1st round match. They should have swapped Ehret with HLB. That would put 2 district 7 teams on either side and 2 district 6 teams on either side. Jesuit and Ehret are both in or near N.O. so it would have worked.
Anyway 1st round precitions:
Shreve over Comeaux 2-1 (OT) Airline over W. Monroe 3-2 St. Paul over HC 3-1 BRHS over CL 2-1 Acadiana over Woodlawn 5-0 Terrebonne over Bonnabel 4-2 Northshore over Andrew Jackson 4-1 Jesuit over HLB 6-0 Byrd over Ruston 1-0 Lafayette over St. Amant 3-1 Catholic over Covington 2-0 Mandeville over W. Jefferson 6-0 Warren Easton over John Ehret 4-0 Caddo over Carencro 3-2 (shootout) Rummel over Destrahan 4-0 Brother Martin over Grace King 5-0
truth be told I have a feeling at least one of these games will get ridiculous (i.e. 12-0, etc. but I have faith in human kindness and the spirit of the game.)

McScruff, I think we are more disappointed then upset. We thought our district record would be good enough to take us away from Lafayette. Laffy is an ultrastrong team, and we will be lucky to not be blown out by those guys. We thought maybe we would have better first round matchup against someone else. I think you make some good points about the matchups, but I still think what LHSAA has written and what they do are two different things. Just an opinion, that all. We are just a very young team, and hoped to get a shot at things in the second round. We will just have to do the best we can and try not to get plowed. I dont think anyone would want to have to open up with Lafayette or Jesuit, and definitely not after they had a decent year (we ended up 12-4-2, not bad). Like I said in an earlier post, we lost control of our own destiny, so now we will just hope for the best.
I hope our game isnt the ridiculous one that hdkjga refers too!

Airline and West Monroe Satuday at 2 pm.
I can honestly say that I'm a little surprised, and somewhat disappointed in our playoff spot. Why the 2s are playing 4s and 1s against 3s is beyond me. I was told that the LHSAA, in its infinite wisdom, likes to vary things, change things up so the same teams don't play each other all the time in the playoffs, you get to see someone new. Well, we are in the EXACT same spot as we were last year, traveling to West Monroe, with a possible second round opponent in Distict rival Captain Shreve? I don't see a whole lot of variation here. This is no disrespect to West Monroe, we will play the game as we are bracketed to do, but it still doesn't make sense. We should be going to Ruston, or even Acadiana. They are the closest #1 seeds to us, it only makes sense right? We are a #4 in our own district afterall. I was kind of looking forward to a great match with Ruston, and then hopefully we get by them to have a shot at Lafayette or St. Amant. I'll be honest, I'm not sure how either one of those games would go, we could very well get blown out, but the experience of playing a high caliber team from down south is invaluable for our future. Now, unless Comeaux can pull an upset, it is at least the 3rd round before we see someone from down south. Same ole faces....gotta love it. Should be fun no matter what happens.
I saw where someone had us beating West Monroe 3-2. That's an awful lot of scoring, prolly much lower, whoever wins, it will most likley we a 1-0 or 2-1 win, 5 goals is way too many for 2 defensively minded teams.

Imeg,
I have seen both teams play 2 or 3 times this year. This will be an extremely good game, but they are playing at Indy. I have only been there once, but they can correct me if I am wrong, but it is somewhere in the realm of 120x80. A big field will help SHreve in my opinion. They are used to it. However, Comeaux doesn't ever seem to get tired. Shreve is a solid team and I think their keeper will be the difference. I haven't seen a better keeper in the state yet than him.

Me humble prediccion: Como +2 over Shreve (Como can play big when it needs) Airline +1 over WM (Airline from stronger D1) St. Pauls +4 over HC (St. Pauls more big game experien) BR +4 over CL (BR can play when in the mood) Acadiana +3 over Woodlawn (#1 in D3, enuff said) Bonnabel +1 over Terrebonne (Bonnabel 12-0 in Dist.) Northshore +12 over A. Jackson (See last year result) Jesuit +15 over HL B (I ought add another 3 goals) Byrd + 7 over Ruston (Byrd from Stronger D1) Laffy + 7 over St. Amant (The champs can play, win it all) Catholic +5 over Covy (Catholic stronger than ranking) Mandy + 7 over W. Jeff (2nd team in strong D1-5) Easton +6 over Ehret (Islano players rule) Cro +3 over Caddo (Cro from quality D1-3) Rummel + 4 over Destre (too much pedigree) BM +6 over King (BM has too much class, will clear bench to keep score decent)
ABSOLUTELY NOT SUBJECT TO CHANGE. the following statement is intended to be the fine print: Margin of error (2 games overall and 1 goal on individual scores)

Prove my phylosofee wrong and I will be singing and dancing with you cause you are a cool cat and want you to win. My predictions are not based on hatred for one team or another, they are based on teams I seen play and/or have read from all the reliable sources in the site.

Hey Coach Ray, I definitely understand your disappointment. There is definitely still inequity in the process, I think it's a real challenge for the LHSAA to overcome the great divide that is I-49.
As for the Lafayette game, your team has flirted with the top ten all year. I have a hard time believing that you will be the one that h spoke of.
Airline, your frustration could be alleviated if only District 2 could get more than 2 teams in the playoffs.
What about re-seeding after the first round? The first round could be a regional round, same criteria used for selecting teams, that basically mirrors this year's first round. Travel distance supersedes almost everything else...wildcards would still play first and second place teams. For the second round, the 16 remaining teams are seeded and placed in the brackets accordingly. 1 v 16, 2 v 15, etc. This would allow most of the weaker programs to be weeded out and not have to travel across the state to get whipped and sent home.
Or, maybe I'm a nut...I haven't decided yet.

HLB played Lafayette pretty tough in last year's playoffs...I think Jesuit only musters 14 agains them.
Of course, I'm joking, but watch the reaction on this board if they do it...the evil empire strikes again.
