As I mentioned before, Kevin, despite being the most "complete" player for LHS was overlooked. No big surprise for me. But here it is...Kevin is one of the best players in the State and will always be my favorite... Congrats Kev...None of the LHS players would be as good as they are without your presence...You don't need a label buddy! Unless I miss my guess, Kev feels the same way. He is a fantastic kid...

Just a wild stab in the dark...Hubie is probably a much better soccer coach, which he demonstrated to me during the LHS/Jesuit game, than he is a politician...Thoughts from anyone?

This the official list voted on and presented by the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association, of which I am a member, and was distributed to us yesterday at our annual spring meeting--hopefully that dispels any conjecture as to its authenticity. Figured i would go ahead an put it up here on the website so everyone who was interested could see it. It will be distributed to the local media outlets within the next week, but it is not expected to be published ahead of the end of the NCAA basketball tournament.
As for the D1 list, I think it is pretty good. I believe we were told by Doug Hamilton from Vandebilt Catholic (the VP in LHSSCA for the boys and the one who tallied the voting) that each of the players voted onto the first team in each Division received at least 10 votes, so there should nt be too much complaint about how they got there.
Only surprise I see is that there were no University HS players there--Gvoich and Mong were not even nominated.

Coach,
Can you offer a description of the process that was followed during the voting? I.e. Did the coaches vote for first team first and then second team. If so, were new ballots with new nominations submitted for second team or did the nominated players for first team automatically get defaulted to second team voting? Did the coaches nominate players individually? If so, how many, which were then voted on in one pass, etc.? Were there any ties, were the ballots secret, and so on? I appreciate your time...

As a Jesuit supporter and someone who watched a fair amount of the metro New Orleans teams play I do not see that there were any grave omissions from the area; BM may express some disapproval that Mark Colomb was not at least 2nd team. This arguement could be made as he was a game maker for them. If Reece Thomas had not been 1st team all state I would be questioning the polotics of how the team was selected. He kept Jesuit in and was the difference in sevearal games, not always scoring but drawing the double team so a teammate could score. It was a great year and I was glad to see Jeremy Wimer from Shreve make all state. There were an unusually number of high quality goalies this year and many played nearly flaelessly all year. Congrats to all. As an FYI the New Orleans Times Picayune posted the all metro team: Kyle Arriaga --Rummel Tyler Cochran --Mandeville Mark Colomb --BM Kevin Cowley _- Jesuit Donald Delatte -- Destrehan Sean Diffenbaugher --St Paul Marshall Fint --Newman Preston Fant --Newman Neej Patel --St. Martin Wayne Pierce --Jesuit Jose Santamaria --Bonnabel David Suazo --Karr Reece Thomas =--Jesuit Scott Rossman -Jesuit, Metro Player of the Year
Metro Coach of the year Hubie Collins --Jesuit.
Looks like they tried to get at least one player from each District.

Each member coach (which was every coach in the state) was sent a ballot for nominations to all state in their respective classes. All of those ballots were sent to schools, so not all coaches got them. Personally I think that is the responsibility of the coach to get his correspondence, but I digress.
After receiving the ballot, each was to nominate 11 players--10 field + 1 goalkeeper. This was then sent to Doug Hamilton at Vandebilt Catholic, who compiled a list of all of the nominees. That list was then sent back to the coaches for us each to vote on our 11 picks in the Division that we coach--I voted in Division I as I coach at St Amant-a D1 school. The top vote getters were then placed on first or second team, depending on the vote tally, and usually based on an 11 man team(ties in voting allowed for more players on the first team in some cases. Some of the Divisions had less second teamers than others due to the number of players receiving votes--I dont think any player was selected with less than 5 votes. As I said before, the first teamers each received a minimum of 10 votes, I believe. The girls side was even stronger, with no D1 first teamer getting less than 14 votes.
I think the process is an excellent one. There are some issues that need to be hammered out (example--the coach at HL Bourgeois nominated all 11 of his kids--more than Jesuit and Lafayette--thats really lame) but otherwise we got some really good choices for the teams. I'm sure there are some casulaties of omission, but as poll and honor voting are in many case political, its the coaches own fault if he/she didnt cast a ballot and his/her kids didnt make it. All in all I think we were pretty close with the choices. 9 out of 11 of the players that I voted for made first or second team.

Frankie Judice for first team all state? Come on. He is a good defender, but playing only 1 or 2 games this season and making all state?

Thanks to the coaches down south for recognizing that there are some quality players from North La. 2 players from Shreve, being selected, is outstanding. If it took 10 votes to make 1st team then the southern coaches did recognize players who played, and contributed, at a high level to the success of their team. This puts North La. players in the top 1% of all D1 players. I think 1st & 2nd teams would be competitive with any team. Maybe this is the beginning of many more All-Staters from the North. Congrats to all.

Did Judice really only play one or two games this season? They must have been extraordinary efforts ! What is the rule (or is there one?) on how much playing time the player must have to make All-State?
