University has had multiple games this season when they could only score off of crosses in the air, and in some cases only headers. This rule is not the end of 80 minute games. A true coach would want to play the whole game to develop the younger players, and allow the opposing team to also develop through the season. Any coach that wants to 8 goal rule teams and go home probably shouldn't be coaching on the high school level. They should want to develop players and play the full time just for the love of the game. I completely disagree with you. It's the playoffs, why play 40 more minutes and risk injury to any of your starters or depth? I understand developing players in the regular season, but the playoffs are about survival. Love of the game doesn't win championships. Because the team you will be facing in the next round may have to play 80 minutes in their game.

It is poor form on the coach imo. Running up a scoreline is classless in my book. I know the girls are looking for scholarships and from that point I guess stats matter, but talk about misleading. Through ball after through ball, goal after goal.where is the player development? In short, if we as coaches would have put in more thought as to the growth of the sport by doing the smart thing (also the right thing imo), this rule wouldn't be needed. It is a poor commentary on our ranks. Just my thoughts though. Well said coach...

trying to remember: do matches played in tournaments count as games? If so, are they subject to mercy rule?

Going to go on about the mercy rule... I don't think it's necessarily in poor form. We had it done to us several times last year and quite honestly it will most likely happen to us one or two times in district. We also mercy ruled a team this year. Our coach made decision not to pull our girls back due to playing conditions. The field was barely playable and it was starting to drizzle. He thought in best interest of both teams to try to end it if we could. It ended about 15 minutes early (more or less).
