Shame on those of you who started and support this thread. Shame on the moderators for not deleting it. There is absolutely no reason for a negative shadow to be cast on this honor for Coach Matlock. You claim no disrespect to Coach Matlock but that is exactly what you are showing, disrespect. Malinich pointed out that the same folks that voted for the POY and the five girl from BF that made the all-state team are the same folks that voted for COY.(not sure if that was somewhat of a jab or not) BUT was there questions of whom the POY was OR that the five girls from BF deserved to make the all state team? if there are then please raise them. I think we can absolutely defend those honors! Definitely not a jab. Just trying to answer the question of who does the voting. My point was that Franklin & Loyola were both well-represented in the votes received. How it fell is how it fell. I don't follow the girls side enough to even have an opinion on who should be selected. And now being in PA, I didn't see even one game on the girls (or boys side) this year so I'm just trying to present the facts.

Counter, I agree that it is not appropriate to mussel an expression just because you disagree with it - whether it be opinion on the greatest team of all time or COY. Better to live by what you preach. Soccerdad is stirring the pot as he is a great chef and loves to cook. You can't pass the table with grabbing a plate. To use your own advise: why not just say the congratulations without all the whining? Could it be you have your own opinions too? onthefly, I'm not going to get drawn into that debate again on a new thread. It's not appropriate or relevant. I have always welcomed different opinions and have always wished more people would be open to discussion on the forum. What frustrated me on that thread were highly negative, critical, and unnecessary posts that did nothing but take away from the team being discussed, in a way that was offensive to the players rather than productive or useful. Of course, those posts ended up being deleted, making any responses (like mine) look unprovoked and sensitive. Eventually I realized this frustrating cycle was becoming pointless and I tried to do the right thing by walking away, even though I wanted to respond again. I don't appreciate being called out publicly again about an argument that ended a long time ago. Again, I have always believed everyone should be welcome to their opinion on a public forum if it's done in the right way, since the forum is intended for people to discuss their opinions. Hopefully we can just let the other thread go.

The thing that puzzles me about this thread is it seems that the BF supporters are trying to make an argument that their coach got cheated out of COY, while the non BF are trying to rationalize how the voters made their decision, non actually having a vote. I think it's pretty simple Mark was deserving, Jose was deserving, heck the EJ coach was deserving. Well this time Mark won. There will always be those that deserve the award that don't get it, that's what happens when more then 1 are deserving. The other issue on this thread is whether this post is disrespectful and should be deleted. This one is interesting to me for a couple reasons. First, there are definitely some comments deleted, I wish I had seen those, secondly, no matter how the comments are framed there is no doubt an undertone of contempt to the final choice for COY, seriously anyone over the age of 10 can see that. Thirdly, i asked a question on the all-state team thread, asking who voted on these teams, questioning in Division I how there were only 2 northern players chosen, both from Byrd and both on 2nd team, when there were 2 schools who made the playoffs, a third team in the second round (6th seed ) and 2 teams making the quarterfinals. I also commented that I know that the girls who made it were deserving and thT there were also many girls deserving on those 5 northern schools. I got an answer from a moderator about LHSAA members, coaches, voting and more southern teams are active, blah blah blah. My post lasted less then a day. There was zero disrespect pointed toward anybody, and I got my answer: get more northern coaches involved to get northern kids these awards. So it begs the question, why does a post questioning the lack of northern kids awarded honors deleted when a post questioning a northern coach getting an award allowed to continue?

offtherecord, you're right that coaches are entitled to vote as they see fit and have no obligation to go defend their pick to everyone. However, you're being a bit unreasonable. I'm not going to comment on who should've won the award but this is a public forum meant for public exchange of opinion, analysis, and discussion. That includes the freedom to call into question or even criticize something that someone disagrees with, or maybe even just wants other people's thoughts. No one has said Coach Matlock didn't do a great job this season or is undeserving. I just find it so irritating when someone tries to start a discussion or wants other people's thoughts on these boards, and then gets called out for being too outspoken and possibly offending someone. Then no one else wants to respond and the original poster is made to look classless unfairly. It happened a lot this year and frankly the forums got pretty boring for a while in the middle of the season. True, there is a classy and unclassy way to post, but I think soccerdad23 did his best to be respectful. To suggest a thread should be deleted for questioning/discussing the choice of an award is a bit dramatic. I don't think we want to censure or remove the right to a public opinion. With that being said, congrats to Coach Matlock and good luck next year! He has obviously helped make Loyola one of the best programs in the state and deserves a lot of credit, as do many other great coaches. Glad I read your response before I posted. You said it better than I could have.
