Thanks Wofford for calling a great game. SSA go troll your own thread. This is for Barbe and SJA

Not an SJA parent, actually a district rival school. So your comment wasn't rivalry related ? Just kicking some other Catholic school with no skins on the wall right after a loss. Got it.

Okay back to the match....... What a rocking soccer complex today. 100+ Barbe students and they came to have fun and get rowdy. AND THEY WERE!! Might of stepped on some St Joes parents toes but the passion was there. Game starts with AWESOME player introductions, , and the game began. 1st 10 mins played on St Joes offense side with Barbe playing for a counter attack. Barbes first goal was a ball inside the 18 that got away from the keeper and hit around a few times before Barbes freshman Jillian Bech pokes into the goal. St Joes gets a high shot before half that Barbe freshman keeper Ann Marie Herra finger tip catches. If she is 1 inch shorter would have been a St Joes goal. Halftime 1-0 Barbe. Second half Sr Kelli Sonnier plays a beautiful cross that was planted into back of the net again by freshman Jillian Bech. Score 2-0 with 20+ left and a few minutes later Kelli Sonnier plays a corner that Jillian skies and heads the ball just wide that would have sealed the victory. Barbe plays defense final 10-15 minutes for the 2-0 win. Couple of points: 1) Felt like it was 2008 again with Barbe pulling off the semi final upset 1-0 vs a better SSA team. 2) If Barbe and St Joes play 10 times St Joes may win 8 times but Barbe just out worked the Red Stickers today. 3) Can't say enough about the Barbe defense of Fr Keeper Herrar, Fr Sara Dumite, Sr Hannah Fontenot, Sr Destany Washington, and Jr Tatum Johnston. St Joes just kept coming but the Barbe defense stepped up and played an outstanding TEAM game. 4) I thought the refs (Hammond) did a good job of letting the girls play, very physical, but knew when to issue a card to keep it from getting out of hand. 5) Again this was a very good and deserving of #2 ranking St Joes team. Only 3 Sr. starting and #20 as a sophomore one of the best players in the state. They will be back. And finally I must eat some crow. I stated that while District 2 is a solid top to bottom district but NO team from this district would be in the final 4. I took some heat from some of my Barbe family but I've seen a few girls games in my time and didn't think any, much less Barbe, would be playing next weekend. Barbe may lose 8-0 next weekend but they are dangerous because they are playing with house money and are playing fearing no one. The are the best DECENT team left playing in the playoffs!!! I will promise you that the game vs MCA or EA that Barbe will leave it all on the field next weekend. Team is playing hard and as a team. Dangerous combination that I think St Joes would agree.

One thing I'd wish the refs would have done today, and they did it more than a couple, is to let the team that was fouled have the dang advantage! It happened both ways but SJA 20 was fouled multiple times, had the advantage and her balance and Mark Twain in the middle blows the whistle! Barbe gets exactly what they wanted, to stop her from going to the hole.

It didn't matter what whistle blew or didn't blow. She wasn't getting by #52. Nice thought though

Mark Twain in the middle blows the whistle! Now this is creative, folks. Take note. You've earned your ribbon.

52 is a solid player. But if I had a nickel for every jersey pull, I could have got a Ruth Chris fillet instead of chickfillet on the way back home. Little things win every ballgame, and Barbe did em or got away with em. "Where there is no law, there is no transgression".
Hat's off to them. I do hope Mark Twain sticks to his pen and paper for the rest of the season, for everyone's sake.

It's amazing how 2 different people can witness 2 different things watching the same match. I saw a physical but clean game being played by both sides and never saw a jersey being pulled to be flying in the air. Barbe coach suggested Lafayette refs but St Joe coach preferred Hammond refs and Coach Todd agreed. What that tells me is that BOTH coaches agreed to the crew. Please don't imply that "The refs cost us the game" and take away anything the Barbe girls did last night.

My appologies. Excuses reside in the mouths of losers, and we are they today. No one expected SJA's season to be over this Morning. It is, and it still stings.

Question ? SJA was seeded #2 and Barbe was seeded #10. Most of the time when you see a #2 play a 9 or higher seed they win by a few goals or more. I saw someone made a comment that Barbe may lose 8-0 Next round . Was this a case of a PR flaw or was Barbe on fire against SJA? Is SJA really a # 2 seed or did they work the PR system really well? I don't know a whole lot on both of these teams nor am I trying to take away Barbes win. Just curious that's all.

If anything Barbe has gotten no respect all year and I'm glad the girls are showing everyone their mistakes by doing it on the field.

Saw Barbe beat Mandy - they are for real. Home field, "wanted it more" , SJA starting outside back went down minutes in never to return, had to be an emotional blow. I would say Barbe came in on fire, and SJA deserved their seed. Look at their schedule, they didn't play the PR game. They beat Loyola, Vandebilt, SSA and MCA. ALL SHUTOUTS. It was a fantastic regular season, and this was disappointing loss.

I don't know a whole lot on both of these teams nor am I trying to take away Barbes win. Just curious that's all. I'll answer this one also.. If Mandeville or St Joes played Barbe a month or 2 ago these games wouldn't have been close. Barbe has some young talent that has grown over the season. Was St Joes deserving of a #2 seed, absofreakinglutely. Played a brutal schedule and if played any other lower seeded team would have probably gotten the win. Please don't tell the Barbe girls cause they have no clue how good they can be... 4-5 dangerous scorers that if you shut down one there are more coming to finish. The defense has been solid also against one the highest scoring teams in the state (Mandeville) and one of the most skilled offenses in the state (St Joes). The freshman keeper is keeping Barbe in games and is FEARLESS. EA beat Barbe 3-0 2 months ago but this is not the same Barbe team. Was Barbe deserving of the #10 seed. Yes. But they are a very scary #10 seed. Vs St Joes Barbe started 3 srs, 1 Jr., 3 soph, and 4 freshman. Played a balanced schedule but #10 is about right. I've said earlier, Barbe girls are having fun and playing great soccer as a team. They will leave everything they have on the field and will make no excuses for the way they play whether they win next week or lose. And one more thing to add... Barbe was able to start a Soccer PE this year for the first time and are having the best season in almost 8 years. Coincidence??? I think not.

This applies much more to Division II-4, the 2 seed blows out the 10 seed. in D1 you probably can go to at least 16, if not higher, to find that 'any given Sunday' situation can happen. If one team brings their 'A' game and the other not so much.

I don't know a whole lot on both of these teams nor am I trying to take away Barbes win. Just curious that's all. This is not the same Barbe team that Sulphur tied the first game of the year. They have been improving steadily from that day. The biggest mistake the "elite" teams of the state made with Barbe, was not crushing them at the Mandiville tournament. Going to toe to toe with SSA, Mandy, Font etc and staying in the game, let these girls believe they could run with anybody. And they can. During district play I picked them over Lafayette. I said the best chance for a Lafayette win was to jump on them early and they might lay down as it appeared they did against NISH. This young team has matured since then, and I no longer think that would be the case. They will not quit. They are peaking at the right time. Nobody expected them to win, so they are playing like they have nothing to lose. We will be in New Orleans on the 27th, sure would be nice to see a southwest LA team in the final while we are there.
