One Side note on Lafayette High that i want everyone to remember is that Lafayette high never plays thier best soccer until after the Christmas break. Last year we beat them twice before the holiday break before they came back and thrashed us in the third meeting. They pick up the tempo as the games become more and more important. Congrats to st. louis on the well deserved win, but i think if this had been later in the season, we would have seen a completeky different game.

your right soccerstud, but that was last year. i know the coach last year focused on the season after the holidays but i'm not sure the same thing will happen with this coach. from the people i talked to he just sends the boys out and lets them play. i know the new coach and i like him alot but he isn't nearly the coach belfour was. i think lafayette will have to rely on there talent this year,(which is the best they have had in a while top to bottom). if a close game comes down to coaching lafayette will be the underdog.
once again i like the lhs coach but he has never coached at this level and i am not sure but i don't think he has been the head coach of a premier team ethier.

I wasn't sure in which thread to post this message, but I guess this one is just as good as any other.
There are a few bits of information that seem to be missing in this "ranking" debate. First of all, this year's Lafayette team is almost exactly the same as the one coached by Balfour for the previous four years with the admittedly notable exception of his son Joey and Will Todd. Just because they lose one game, which was their fifth in less than 24 hours, in an overtime shootout, some people have already handed the state championship trophy to Jesuit. I personally welcome the return of Jesuit to competition because it inaugures the return of a great American city. However, as others have pointed out, they have yet to play a game. Granted, I suspect that they will do very well when they do, but they have yet to play a game.
Secondly, I object not only to the remarks made by "lsucks" but also to his screen name. From his comments, I think it is obvious what the "l" stands for. I am not sure if he is a Jesuit product/student, but having received a Jesuit education myself (Loyola Univeristy New Orleans), I do not think the Good Fathers with the S.J. after their names would approve. In my opinion, "lsucks" has crossed the line between good-ole-boy, testasterone-fueled trash-talking and vulgarity. Notice I did not say profanity. There is a difference.
Lastly, as we all know, the only poll that counts is the one at the end of the season. And there again, there is only last bit of information we need to keep in mind: Should Jesuit make it to the finals this year, they will not have home-field advantage. THERE I SAID IT!

"Should Jesuit make it to the finals this year, they will not have home-field advantage. THERE I SAID IT"
Last year yes Jesuit brought a large crowd but I would hardly call it home field advantage because Lafayette brough a large student body near the size of Jesuits

Is it true that the almighty lafayette fighting lions lost to thevenot and a bunch of rec players at st louis. well for that fact, most of the team doesnt even play rec, just highschool soccer. i was wondering if its just a rumor or if this is true. i dont see how this is possible especially if we are talking about lafayette being hands down the best team in the state. what a joke. a Div III school? can i get a response about if this is true or not. im not looking for a million excuses from the lafayette faithful if this did occur. all i need is confirmation. 1 game 1 chance to prove who the bets team in the state is and lafayette lost to a crew of mediocure rec players and 1 guy who can spell soccer? this cant be huh?

are you really a teurlings "DAD"? because you post like a high school kid who has a chip on his shoulder. it sounds like you are upset because your team can't hang. it is rare when any team goes all year without a loss, and lafayette is no exception. oh one more thing they aren't the lafayette fighting lions they are the mighty lions, so get it right. and please grow up "DAD" LOL.

For someone who claims to be a father, You allegedly send your child to a private school; think you could spell mediocre right? (Heres a hint for the next time your trying to impersonate someone or sound somewhat intelligent. There is a "Spell Check" button on your screen next to "Preview") Judging by the remarks you left I am going to assume that you are not a "Teurlings Dad," but rather a player who is getting on here to trash-talk a good soccer program. How hard is it for people to realize that ONE loss (in a PK shootout) does not determine the success of a teams season?

a loss is a loss my friend. pk shootout or not. the way i see it lafayette isnt even the best team in the state with black white and green uniforms. and where do u get off referring to lafayette high as a good soccer program? there are alot of Div I schools that can lose to a Div III school. what makes them so special? by this assumption NISH is a good soccer program.

This whole thread is about Lafayette, and they are currently the top team to beat in Division I, until of course, the best team in the entire world, Jesuit, begins play, and proves that they are worthy of anything in the top 5. (Thats where I get off referring to Lafayette as having a good soccer program.)
About the loss, I have no affiliation with the Lafayette School, but if a team, ANY team, loses ONE game in the middle of a season, it should not be a bearing on whether that team is capable of winning a state championship in 2 months.
To the "a loss is a loss" comment; Games that go into PKs are classified as ties, in all other aspects except, High School Soccer in the State of Louisiana. PKs are merely a way of determining an advancement, such as district rankings, tournament play, and playoffs.
I don't seem to comprehend the NISH comment. NISH and Lafayette are not even close comparisons
Another thing, last time I checked uniforms meant nothing to how successful a team is. Go to Brazil, play a kid in rags in an alley, and then say that clothing makes the player.

"Teurlings Dad" is definitely not a Teurlings Dad or Teurlings player. Anyone associated with Teurlings knows that the Rebels have too much respect for the Lafayette High & St Louis Soccer programs to ever talk so negatively about those programs.
Is this "Guest" reply new to this board ? Can anyone with a fake screen name post without repercussion? If so, the quality that this board is known for will diminish rapidly.

Ok...enouph of the bashing. I mearly was stateing that Lafayette will get better as the year goes on.
I also know the coach/trainer at Lafayette. He will have the boys ready to go come the end of the year. I also agree with joey (i know i dont say that too often...haha just kidding man) when he says that acadiana is not that good this year. I think that this maybe the only flaw in the Lafayette team is that they will not see the same competition in district play as they normally do. This may hurt them come playoff time, but until then, I still say they are the team to beat.
Another note on Teurlings dad's post... A. Size of school doesn't matter. If i recall corectly, St. Louis beat Lafayette High i think last year or the year before with Joseph L. in the Sulphur Tourney.
B. Worry about Teurlings soccer. You guys will have enouph trouble facing them this year.
C. They won in a shootout. big deal. We tied Jesuit last year at como. Does that make us better than them? think not.

i agree with the other guy. its just depressing to see where soccer in louisiana is if lafayette is suppose to be the best team in the state. i dont care who won or about pks, they shouldnt even have been in a close game with those kickballer rec players from st louis, much less lose. and their pk shooters were awful. is that the best LHS has to offer? i think they really are an embarrasment. this years LHS team woudlnt even have made the playoffs in years past. things are going down hill in a hurry.

I agree that this years talent pool across the state had a dramatic drop off from last year. I know because i was there. I do think that the overall talent level will rise over the next few years however.
Also any one can beat anyone at any time. Regardless of who plays who. Especially when you play a descent kickball type team. Kickball is effective but very inconsistent. All it takes is for one team to have a bad day finishing and make one mistake on defence to blow game (example Last year in the NORTHSIDE tourny Jesuit outshot como 33 to 1. Final score 1-1)
This concludes this argument for good...As my mother always told me...
never argue with idiots...They will drag you down to thier level and beat you with experience.
