I must agree with over40player. The ONLY thing Laffy is lacking is class. I would like to know how many red cards they have so for this season. They could be the standard that everyone else strives for if they would clean up the red cards issues. Have seen both Jesuit and Laffy play and I don't see the lack of descipline on the field from Jesuit as i do from Laffy. Being a true champion is;"winning and losing with class" Think about that statement. one.

haha i know Laffy at least have 1 red, quite a humorous one too, I believe Ghandi threatened the referee's life or something hah. Not really, but if that's their only red this season then they don't really have a disciplinary, or as some people are calling it, lack of class, which doesn't make sense to me

As for this, manner of play being "below a championship team", if anybody has watched Chelsea play, they aren't exactly the nicest team in the world. They know how to break up play by wasting time, they know when to break a team's rhythm by committed an unneccesary foul. Not all of soccer is about playing with that ball it's also about how a team makes a presence on the field and controls the game. Any good coach knows this and incorporates it into the team, I think some of the people complaining about that need to understand the game today isn't all about skill anymore but the physical part is becoming a big factor. Look at Arsenal, not physical enough to compete with a team as tough as Chelsea, there comes a time where it takes more than talent to break a team down and I applaud Lafayette for playing the way they do. Excuse the ramblings but I'm trying to make a point here, hopefully it'll click in some of your heads

It is quite remarkable that on this thread - it is only the coaches' words that are actually worth reading. Everyone else is either very biased or they just think that they know everything.

I played highschool soccer for 4 years and I have watched and avidly followed it for 10 years. One thing people seem to not realize if you haven't played in a highschool game, is that when a team is head and shoulders above the other talent-wise, the weaker team likes to take little cheap shots or start hacking. I can honestly tell you, that nothing will aggrivate a player more than beating a player fair and square and then that player just starts hacking at the back of your heels. I am not saying that that is what happened, but I am willing to bet that it was going on.
Also, in regards to Jesuit being more "classy", I have seen several Jesuit players over the years get in fights, take cards for kicking a set ball to allow their defense to set up, etc. They are no different from any other highschool soccer team in the state in this respect.
The best way to prevent fights, is for the ref to catch the cheap hacking that goes on. Assisstant refs can help with that as well, and then you probably wouldn't have players taking it to the punching level. 15-18 year old boys have a lot of testosterone, Lafayette, Jesuit, Dutchtown, etc. they all have it and they all let it control them at some point.
Finally, unless you have followed Lafayette throughout their 21 games they have played, I don't think you can accurately assess the class of their team. All teams do some classless things, but don't generalize it to the entire team.

I will never respect dirty play. Period...by the winners OR the losers.
I have not seen them this year, but one thing I've always liked about Acadiana was their sportsmanship combined with their skill. As someone already said, it is one thing to play well; it is another to play with class.

"Should Jesuit make it to the finals this year, they will not have home-field advantage. THERE I SAID IT" Last year yes Jesuit brought a large crowd but I would hardly call it home field advantage because Lafayette brough a large student body near the size of Jesuits Home field advantage is determined by where you play your home games during the season. Didn't Jesuit play there home games there all last year? on the slippery grass? that they were used to playing on? Sound like home field advantage.

Is it true that the almighty lafayette fighting lions lost to thevenot and a bunch of rec players at st louis. well for that fact, most of the team doesnt even play rec, just highschool soccer. Thevenot and some of his team mates played on the premier team that beat NOSA last year for the state title. Thevenot did take one shot on goal at the st louis tournament one of his team mates was fouled and he took the penalty kick.

Finally, unless you have followed Lafayette throughout their 21 games they have played, I don't think you can accurately assess the class of their team. All teams do some classless things, but don't generalize it to the entire team. I agree, I have seen Lafayette play once this season and their JV play once and they seem like a regular team to me in terms of physical play. There will be circumstances that can come up in a game and as coach you hope that your player will make the smart choice but we have to remember that these are kids and sometimes emotion, not logic, can take over. SO to call them unclassy based on one game seems absurd. They are a strong team and when you are the team to beat I guess you are also the team to beat up on (verbally). Good Luck LHS!
