I agree on Lafayette and Baton Rouge - central location, facilities,& soccer fan base. Also, has any team north of the I-10 corridor made the finals in the last 15 years? I'm not trying start anything, I'm just wondering..

I can tell you as a parent in the stands last year it will hard to top the Lafayette facilities. The small size stadium had an electric feel for all games played there. I am afraid the sheer size of Indy and the 2000 or so fans will get lost in a 45,000 seat stadium. I will in Shreveport watching and spending my money in the local economy. As courgarfan stated about no local teams playing in the last few years, maybe that is how LHSAA wants it, they want me to stay in a hotel and spend my money at local restaurants. Last year most teams were from Laf and Lake Charles and I would bet none of them stayed in hotels. Its all about the Benjamins........

After playing at Gormley, LSU Woman's field, and Independance, I can without a doubt say Independance Stadium is the nicest field in LA. Trust me. Lsu's field does have the box nets and all, but Independance's turf is the best to play on. Gormley is a joke- terrible surface.

Is Indy's turf like St. Thomas More's (to play on*, not just the looks*)?? or is it a little worn down which would make it a better carpet to play on I'm guessing??
I've just heard too many complaints about STM's field...

Everyone is writing that Lafayette and B. Rouge are the most centraly located. However, in this direction Alexandria is within two hours drive from anywhere in LA. Also, they have one of the best fields out there.

Who exactly will be "losing money" since the finals are moved to Shreveport? I'm sorry that possibly Jesuit fans will not be coming up to Shreveport, but you better believe that every soccer fan in Shreveport/Bossier will be at Indy watching it... it's not like it'll be a small crowd for the biggest game in the state... and yes it's the best field I've played on too, which makes it even better because there can be absolutly no excuses in the field conditions or anything.

I wanted to comment on the field at Indy. It is simply put...Very fast. The length of the strands isn't nearly as long as other artificial surfaces located throughout the state. I personally prefer to watch and coach games there because you always have to elevate your play, touch and speed at which the game is played.
The length of travel to Shreveport is something that I have read on this thread, and on prior threads with this same topic. I don't really want to hear it. For years the rec, club and high school teams that I have been involved with have made the constant treks to and from all of the southern Louisiana cities. Asking everyone in the state to do it for 2 years isn't much to ask in return. Furthermore, if there isn't a positive impact on the game, or most importantly the local economy, then chances are that Shreveport will not bid on it when the time comes.
However, I believe that most people in Southern Louisiana will be amazed to know that we have quite a bit of soccer in Northern Louisiana and we will certainly be in attendance during the finals.

That's how it's going to be for you always if you live up there. Hardly ever does a north Louisiana team make it to the finals. Teams from south Louisiana definitely have a right to complain.

Two to four hours drive should not be a problem for the real soccer fans. It did not stop me to go to Philadelphia, Chicago and Houston to watch the likes of Man U , Barca and Juve,or to Dallas for the MLS Cup final. It didn't stop me to play and watch games in diferent countries in Europe. It does not stop thousands of fans who go and support their teams from country to country, or even to a diferent continent, on the other side of the world like last month in Japan for the World Club Championship. Not to mention the World Cup, Champions League, Copa Libertadores, qualification games and so forth. And people on this board complain about few hours drive, or maybe I don't understand the reality of such a huge obstacle that is 200-300 miles.

I won't ask you to break it down as to how you came up with that number because you proved it last year. But the number you provided.......was that just for the boys DI game?

It was an average. Barbe/Lafayette girls received the same amount as the Carencro/Fount boys so the girls numbers could have been lower and the boys higher but I would think it is no more than a few hundred difference. Maybe 2000 for girls and 2500 boys. Just guessing.

Mr. Bish, high school and pro soccer are diferent qualities of course. However, my point was that for true fans a couple of hours drive should be nothing. I remember a few years ago at the U12 boys tournament in Argentina there were 50 000 (yes, fifty thousand) fans on the final at the Bonbonera Stadium in Buenos Aires where Boca Juniors played a team from Uruguay.

I agree completely with you. Only true/hardcore fans of the teams will make the journey to Shreveport. The problem is that there aren't many fans of this type.
