That is understandable for high school soccer. I did not go to the finals last year and I if they were some place else other than Shreveport I would not go to N Orleans, B. Rouge or Lafayette to see it, unless I am associated with the team that makes it.. I would and I go to the other side of the country or the world for a good pro game but in general US soccer fan base is getting bigger and better. I remember last summer when tens of thousands of americans went to Europe to support the national team, the biggest support ever for the US team on foreign soil. Back to the topic, I think the finals in the next two years will be a great success but we will have our answers pretty soon.

Sorry my friend, this isn't the MLS. World Cup, Champions League or anything like that. This is high school soccer in Louisiana. The typical spectator isn't going to travel hours to go see a high school soccer match. I don't care if you are a parent or fan of the team you are supporting, they just aren't going to travel that far to support the game. I hope that the Shreveport soccer community can provide a great atmosphere for the games. I wish them the best of luck. I am sure they are capable of it with the proper preparation. Personally, I know that I and many others won't be making the trip. But for those that do, I hope that is a very enjoyable one. Two to four hours drive should not be a problem for the real soccer fans. It did not stop me to go to Philadelphia, Chicago and Houston to watch the likes of Man U , Barca and Juve,or to Dallas for the MLS Cup final. It didn't stop me to play and watch games in diferent countries in Europe. It does not stop thousands of fans who go and support their teams from country to country, or even to a diferent continent, on the other side of the world like last month in Japan for the World Club Championship. Not to mention the World Cup, Champions League, Copa Libertadores, qualification games and so forth. And people on this board complain about few hours drive, or maybe I don't understand the reality of such a huge obstacle that is 200-300 miles.

By the way, New Orleans to Shreveport is a six hour trip. If it was 2 to 4 hours we might consider making the trip to see the game. Two to four hours drive should not be a problem for the real soccer fans. Are you telling me you wouldn't drive to Shreveport to watch your own child play in a state final? We have lots of New Orleans/Baton Rouge/Lafayette parents up here every year to watch their children play in premier matches/tournaments. I'm sure we will have most of the parents and lots of fans from each school that is participating. The casual fan from South Louisiana is another story. More from Lafayette will show than those from Baton Rouge or New Orleans, depends on what schools are playing. The trip from New Orleans takes about 4.5 to 5 hours depending on the traffic in BR and how fast you want to go.

Can someone explain to me what they were thinking when they decided to have the finals in Shreveport. Were they thinkng it would be a good location for teams, not a bad drive? This has to be one of the worst ideas to have the finals in Shreveport, they are going to lose alot of $ due to no fans attending the game. Nobody in their right mind wants to make that drive, some will, but nobody "wants" to...

Parents may make the trip to watch their own kid play but how many students or soccer fans will make that trip - very few!

Parents may make the trip to watch their own kid play but how many students or soccer fans will make that trip - very few! i disagree... if the top teams from DI & DII in the thread above plays out correct and they reach the finals position.. students and soccer fans will* make the trip.. you should change ur name b/c you are DEFINATELY NOT saying that "soccer is 4 all".. the numbers cant be given but i wonder also whether the fan-count will be as high as it was at UL Women's complex last year

No way the numbers will equal last years, but with 3 of the 4 D1 teams last year from the Lafayette area they couldn't have had it work out better for them. While unlikely that we will have any area teams in the finals, you never know what can happen. Before the playoffs last year, who would have predicted a Carencro-Fontainebleau final?
The Lafayette area fans should be here in force if any of their teams make it. Fewer Baton Rouge and then even fewer New Orleans area fans. Lafayette to Shreveport is an easier drive than Lafayette to New Orleans. Little further but much less stressful.
I'm glad they are up here, but if I were to pick a permanent location for the state finals I would put them in Lafayette.

Why not in Shreveport for a change? It will give the Ark-La-Tex soccer fans a change to watch some terrific matches. I'm sick and tired of you guys dividing the La as North and South; SHrveport Bossier area has the same right as you people in NO, BR and Laffy and we do have the facilities. Furthermore a local entity has placed big bucks in sponsoring this soccer event in our community. So, shut up, make the drive if your HS team will be playing in the finals, be a true soccer fan and support them! While here enjoy our magnific cities by eating and sleeping here. ;-) Good luck to your team!

However the fact is this event will be no where near last years in lafayette or the year before in new orleans........not enough teams from shreveport make the finals to warrant the finals being in shereveport because Jesuit when the finals were in New Orleans brought between 3000-5000 fans to a game while the lafayette did the sames last year......should a jesuit or lafayette team make the finals in shreveport this year they will be lucky to have 500 people there no where near the 3000 they normally carry

ok well what a/b a relevent location for everybody, what a/b Alexandria, do they have a stadium that socer could use? that way all teams travel pretty much the same distance, well it beats driving to shreveport.... Last season we had a select game @ noon, i had to leave my house @ 5a.m. so i could get there @ 10:30, We finished the game and came back home, stopped once to eat and when we got home it was 8:30, and i never want to do it again, so how do you think fans or students are going to travel to shreveport, no body wants to make that drive.

even though the south might be better at soccer than the north soccer doesnt revolve around just pleasing people in the south...if people enjoy watching soccer a little trip up north wont kill them i promise.
