Mullins is good, but so is the last line of defenders in front of him--they & the midfielders keep quite a bit of pressure off Mullins

Clearly, WAVE has watched the Jesuit games.
Most teams this year have not gotten many good looks at the goal because of the defense. Of the looks on goal that were had, only 6 goals were converted on J all year, 3 of which came when the starters were on the bench.
Of the other 3 goals, Rummel scored 2 and Brother Martin scored 1.
When a ball does get through, Mullins has been there to do the job.
If Jesuits gets up early and BM has to press the defenders to midfield or beyond, BM will be susceptible to the counter attack, which J does well.
I have seen these teams play for many years. The spectators won't be disappointed. Neither team will cry "uncle", regardless the score.
This year, Jesuit has the more talented and deep squad. But that's why you play the game on the pitch.

Timerman--Sounds like you also have been to a few Jesuit games. Needed to get a little plug in for the back line of the defence since most if not all of the credit usually goes to the midfield and the goalie. Hopefully, they'll keep up the good work tonight. See you at the game.

Is anyone (aside from Jesuit students/alumni) actually pulling for Jesuit in this game? Not me, that's for sure. BM wins it in PKs after a 1-1 regulation....i hope.

That's because no one else wants to play them. If there was a team to beat Jesuit it would be BM. Beating a team 3 times in a season is tough to do. I'm a BM soccer alum, and I am going to the game to hopefully see a BM win, but in the back of my mind, I think I might have some wishful thinking about the outcome of the game. I think everyone's "hoping" to see BM beat Jesuit. Whether or not it happens...we'll find out tonight.

Game Summary
Well, to begin with, congrats to jesuit for a hard fought 2-0 win. I'm a BM alum, and I give credit where credit is due, and the Jays were on another level of intensity than BM for most of the game. The game could have really been 4 or 5-0, but it should have ended 1-0. Jesuit scored on a set piece in the box that wasn't cleared by BM with about 2 minutes left in the game to give them the two-goal lead. The first half of the game could be summed up like this: total domination by Jesuit. About 10 minutes into the game, I knew they would put one in by halftime. The goal didn't come, however, until the 38th or 39th minute with a 14-yard shot from Chris Cabos into the side netting. Andre did a very good job keeping the Saders in the game, but Jesuit just couldn't finish off BM. I don't know if Jesuit was like this all season, but they were very unchracteristic (as opposed to past Jesuit teams) this game. Always the opportunistic team, Jesuit squandered away at least three or four great chances on goal in the first half. This definitely sparked BM in the second half. It looked like Jesuit backed off their attack, and were content with a one goal lead. BM had more chances in the first ten minutes of the second half than they had all first half. BM had one set piece after another, but nothing would work against Jesuit's D. In the end, Jesuit more characteristically capitalized off BM's lack of communication in clearing the ball and put the game away late in the 87th minute. Jesuit, I'm sorry to say, was clearly quicker to the ball and showed more intensity throughout the game than did BM. To be honest, it seemed to me like a real sloppy game. There wasn't any possession on BM's part and only some on Jesuit's part.
...On another note, the level of play of this game was, I thought, not high quality. I don't know if I played during a time when talent was very good (in 2000-2002), but most of the players on each team seemed small. It wasn't as physical a game as I thought it would be, and to be honest, it wasn't well played. BM's varsity on the field tonight would have been a JV team in 2000,2001, or 2002. If jesuit is undefeated, that doesn't say much for that state of LA in terms of talent. Jesuit didn't impress me at all, and BM just looked pathetic. Hopefully, BM will regroup and come back with stronger classes in the next couple of years. Good luck to Jesuit. They should win state.
