The Shreveport area TV market covers more of Texas than Louisiana. Thats the reason given for carrying more Cowboys than Saints games. I could care less about either team. Was it convenient for north La. to open our hearts and wallets for the hurricane survivors in the south? If you don't want to come to Shreveport, stay home. We have enough complainers here already. For those that do come, I hope you enjoy your time here. We have electricty and running water in most of our hotels.

NO ONE from Shreveport EVER complains about going down south to play and we go down south many times in a high school season and twice as much in the club season. Not true Mr Punkaro, I'm know lots of parents (including yours who have complained from time to time about the constant trips down south to play club ball. We all do. Lots of money, miles, and time spent for you kids to play soccer. Travel is just part of life if you play club ball up here. I know it will be a long trip for some, but the fans who really want to watch their team will come. I hope they have a great time while they are here.

I don't really care about bids or anything. So is what's basically being said is high school soccer is all about who provides the best monetary bid. Choosing a location so far from most usual contenders is ridiculous and very few people will show up.

Every sport is given to the group that makes the best bid. Not just soccer.

Haha oops I forgot that the parents have to travel too. I should rephrase that to "I don't complain about going down South because it gets boring here sometimes and I like to visit friends and relatives down there" well, I stand corrected. I guess I will know the true hurt when I start footing the bill (which dad almost made me do one time when I made coach mad and I didn't play)

the fact that it is in shreveport will take away a lot of fans for D1 boys every team in the final 4 will have to drive 6 hours... which will send away a lot of fans

Wow, seems like a great deal of anger built up from Shreveport on traveling and football. You guys (cable guy and Punkaro) are missing the point. I have been involved in LA Soccer for almost 30 years in one way or another. My shot is at not at the city of Shreveport, but LHSAA. If soccer in this state is going to be competitive/supported by more than players and families, then some sort of promotion and normalcy needs to be brought to the State Championships. Kudos to Shreveport for cheesing up the cash to win the bid. Bottom-line, these games will be fun for the teams/schools participating, but you are not going to get many walk-up spectators. Therefor, cableguy you made my point, the majority of the Shreveport TV market is TX. I am sure we could count on 1 hand the number of people from TX that will come and enjoy a LA State Final Soccer match, and it is only minutes away.
And by the way I do not live in NO nor do I have any affiliation with Jesuit. Furthermore; if you do not feel in your heart the need to give to certain causes, like victims of Katrina, then I recommend that you keep it.

well...ur points are great...but when shreve (a northern team) went to the state semi-finals in 2005...dunno if manny of u were there but i was personally playin in that game...and well i looked in the stands quite a few times...and i saw almost 3 or 4 hundred "shreveport" supporters...that is students and parents, principle of the school, and just any other person who wanted to go...now shrevedad stand with me on this one cuz i know u were there ;-)...but if the team has a fan base...the fan base wont care where they have to go to see their team play they will go...and the turnout of people for the championship game is goin to be great...because people in the north have been waiting to see a game of this callibur for years! I know I will be there and im sure shrevedad and punkaroo will be too!

a good location for the state champioship would be in the LSU football statium, everyone in louisiana knows where it is and how to get there. it is a grass field not that crap astroturf, and it is a top of the line facility that players playing in the state champioship for both boys and girls deserve to experience.

Here's a novel idea:
The coaches from each team in the district nominates a venue. Each district must have a majority vote to nominate the venue. Each district casts their vote, and the venue with the two most votes go to a runoff, or in the case of a majority, that venue is chosen.
Hypothetical example: D1-5 has 5 teams. 4 coaches nominate Baton Rouge and 1 nominates Lafayette. The D1-5 vote is Baton Rouge. If there are 7 districts in D1, and 4 of those votes are for Baton Rouge, 2 are for Lafayette, and 1 is for Lake Charles, then Baton Rouge and Lafayette go to a runoff and the districts vote again....or, we could just name Baton Rouge the winner.
Input from the teams/districts would be nice, rather than having the dollar speak for the entire state.

Also....once a venue is chosen, that same venue cannot be chosen for the next 3 yrs. (Keeps a student from playing at a venue twice in his HS career).

I don't see any reasons why someone can not come and see the finals in Shreveport. If you are a fan of soccer( not even a fan of the schools playing the finals) a few hours drive should not be a problem. Most of you complaining about LHSAA but maybe just a few of you realized why the finals are in Shreveport. It is very simple- it is the best place for such an event. Much better than Lafayette, B. Rouge or N. Orleans, except the location. I don't know why some of you mentioned am. football here on this site but since we are on the topic let me give you some things to think about. In the past ten years the teams from the north won state champinships in 5A, West Monroe or Evangel. I never heard them to complain why the finals are at the Superdome. Every year more than 10 000 Evangel suporters make the trip to N. Orleans and more than 20 000 suporters from West Monroe do it. If that is the case every year the finals should be here in the north, and no one should even go south of I 20. If tens of thousands of people can go south for am. football finals there are absolutely no reasons any of you to complain, it is simply ridiculous. You don't want to come to Shreveport, don't come. However, if you do come and just have a little time to look around( a little further than your nose that is) you will figure it out very quickly why the finals are here. 200 miles did not stoped me a few weeks ago to go and watch Laffy- Carencro, and it will not stop me tomorrow to go and watch Carencro- Jesuit. Am I not a fan of this teams but seven hours in the car, round trip, were worthy to go and see decent soccer. It did not stop me to go to Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia or Chicago to see the likes of Juve, Barca, Man. U, Celtic or Club America. It does not stop me to go multiple times to Dallas every year and watch one of the best youth tournaments in the world such as Dallas Cup. Thousands of miles did not stop me to go to Europe to visit and see games there. Then what are we writing about. If the distance between South and North Lousiana is so huge, stay home then but stop complaining. The Shreveport soccer comunity is very excited the finals are here and don't forget that CABOSA/SU have 2000 players, the third biggest club in LA. It is in the works to bring many of these players tand their parents to the stadium and I am pretty sure many non sayers will be surprised by the numbers.

macca1, have you seen the lsu football stadium after the season? It's in horrible shape. They have to cut out the entire middle of the field and re-sod it because the eye of the tiger kills all of the grass.
The suggestion of having it in the Superdome seems intriguing. With the new turf that would be pretty cool. They can even take the football goal posts down and just have the goals. Come to think of it, they should try to host an international freindly in there or something. That would be cool.

Are you kidding me? lets see how many years has the state championship been held at tad gormely stadium? wow all four years I played high school soccer I know...soo that must be a new rule or something

It's an idea added to the initial one I presented above. It would force the state championship game to rotate between areas and prevent things like.....people from Shreveport traveling to Tad Gormley for four years in a row.
