Captian Shreve-1 University-1
good game, both teams played very physical and strong, University had 1 pk at teh veryt begining of the game but was denied by the Shreve keeper. Also a very bad kick as well, but props to the keeper for stopping it. Both teams had a few chances. The overall game was very blaanced, no one team had completel control for more then 5-10 minutes at a time. Near the end high got a second pk and capitalized on it tieing the game 1-1

EA 2 Lafayette 1
EA currently playing Rummel in semi finals, and Rummel up 1-0. I live 5 mins from complex and its raining pretty hard, plus add in the cold weather - not nice! Feels and looks like January midweek evenings.

Good job EA, competing the semi-finals of what many feel to be the toughest tournament of the 07-08 season. Not bad considering that just last season you played in the "weakest of all divisions" Good luck with the rest of your season

EA is alot better than most people thought but they didn't deserve the win against laffy. Laffy controled the game but unfortunatly the ref was against then. Absolutely horrible reffereeing. Anyone could have done better. But EA played very good. Their forward is really good, has great speed. It was a great tourny with great competition. GoodJob dutchtown

Nobody got a bigger "bend over and take it" than STM. They play Jesuit to a scoreless game thru 57 minutes and lose 1-0. They beat BRHS 2-1 with the BR goal being an "own goal." They beat Dutchtown 2-0, holding them to 1 shot on goal. But b/c of the crazy brackets they go home. While Jesuit was clearly the no. 1 seed and BR a very capable team, they got to play a 5A school, a 4A school and a 2A school. STM played 3 5A schools beat 2 and lost a close match to Jesuit. They beat BRHS but BRHS breaks bracket and STM goes home. With goals scored counting, this is quite a unfair bracket. If BRHS weren't a good bunch of kids, I'd be pretty upset off right now. (accually b/c of the weather, i'm kinda glad we are home) They did their job and got their points. I hope the organizers give the brackets some thought next year. If they are going to use cross brackets, at least even them up. Otherwise, this cross bracket stuff is a joke if head to head doesn't matter.

Silver Division Jesuit and Rummel decided not to play the final today. Their first district game will also decide the winner of this tournament.
Purple Division Jesuit JV lost a coin toss to Terrebonne to declare a champion. Refs said the fields were unplayable and the method of declaring a champion in the rules was coin toss.

To all teams....
As the organizer, and Dutchtown Coach, I am extremely grateful that you decided to join us this year. I personally felt like the tournament went very well outside of the weather at the end of the day, which I thought we'd get much earlier than we did. (No rain came until the semifinals.) I appreciated those of you that stopped and shared your kind words about the tournament.
Parents/Players...I was very impressed with everyone. I had assigned my players fields to clean up at the end of each day and very little cleaning was needed. I personally thank you for your courteousness in using the trash cans and I thank you for attending.
As far as the brackets go. I felt very comfortable with the brackets and I still feel comfortable with the brackets. I think everyone that played was provided with competitive games that will go a long way in preparing them for the more important games in district and the playoffs.
When establishing brackets, especially at an early season tournament...it is guesswork sometimes with who will be good and how good they will be. I thought we had a good split among the 4 groups. Only Jesuit and EA, I believe won all three games in group play. Among those two Jesuit got a tough game from STM and EA had two 1 goal wins.
As far as the point system goes...in a perfect scenario we have a 16; team bracket with 4 in each bracket and one team advances. We did not have that so a cross bracket was established. All coaches were aware of the rules to advance well before the tournament. As a coach myself, that's all I expect...to know what it will take to advance. I agree that it was unfortunate that St Thomas More did not go through. I personally think that they are a better team that BRHS...nothing against BRHS. However, I think both teams are probably satisfied with the competition they were able have and knowledge they gained early in the season.
As I do every year I will critique our organization and the point system and look at other options and ways to improve for next year, however this point system is used at other tournaments and isn't one that was just made up.
Again...thanks to all for attending and I hope you will consider us again next year.
