This year is going to be very exciting for our district. Not only are Baton Rouge, St. Amant, and St. Joseph high quality teams but others from the district such as Dutchtown and Woodlawn are showing great soccer and seem to be improving. I believe Dutchtown will surprise many people this year along with other teams.

Don't recall anyone hyping Carter or Henderson, they just seem to go about there business and reap the rewards at the end of the year. They are more than likely the best one-two punch in District 4 and cause more problems for defenses because they can't just worrying about one player having to do all the scoring. If St Joseph's moves Meagan Aultman up top as was rumored to be the plan they also will have an extra scoring threat. I merely wished it to be known that when you tag some one highly without them having a long history of greatness you set them up to be in some Senior defenders gun sights (not to mention Gk's- who hate to have anyone score on them), and they don't care for being shown up by underclassmen.
The district is about as balance as it has been over the last four years, and while it is unlikely, maybe even one of the bottom three could accidentally upend the top dogs. It will be exciting to see how the season unfolds.
Not the 'game of the century' but Woodlawn opens at U-High on Thursday night.

Dutchtown 2 East Ascension 0
Score a little closer than the 1st half indicated. Dutchtown dominated possession throughout the first half but had trouble finishing (a couple of hard shots that went off the crossbar and post), basically out shooting EA approximately 10 to 1 for the half. EAs only opportunity of the first half came on a long ball sent from the back that got through Dutchtown's defense. The 2nd half was a little more evenly matched, however both teams seem to be substituting at an extremely high rate, with players playing various positions on the field. EA got a couple more scoring opportunities in the 2nd half, but still was out shot approx. 8 to 2. All the scoring occurred in the 1st half, one on a free kick by Dutchtown from about 25 yards out, and one on a very nice transition down the field by 3 of the Dutchtown girls. Overall, a pretty good first game of the season for both clubs, in which both cleared their benches several times during the game. Dutchtown definitely appears to be a strong team with their starters in the game.

SJA is getting 4 cross country athletes today -- at least two of which will be counted on as defenders, plus two key contributors in a couple of weeks from the BRSC U 15 team which is still playing. SJA is struggling to find some offense, but I have a sneaky feeling that things are going to start to gel Thursday night at Covington. BRHS will also get Henderson after the BRSC U 15's finish in early December.

What defenders will SJA be getting? Was defense the problem with last night's game? Where are Brunet and Aultman?

The St. Amant game doesn't seem too surprising. They lost some very key players last year. Also, they only won 1-0 on a PK against an EA team that looked weak against Dutchtown in a game that was undistinguished by either team.
EA had good effort, and I'm sure the coaches will develop players over the course of the year, but I suspect EA will find much of Div I a rude awakening next year, just like Dutchtown did last year.
Dutchtown will have to learn to pass the ball effectively, a severe weakness last year against the better teams of the district. They have enough skill to get away with a helter skelter style of play against the weaker teams, but were utterly dominated in midfield by the STA and BRHS teams last year. Regardless of the style of play, however, DTHS will not drop down to the level of poor Woodlawn as mentioned earlier in this board.
Hard to say who will finish just behind BRHS in league play. Both DTHS and St. Joe seemed to be were pushed around (literally) equally by Destrehan at the Dutchtown jamboree. St. Amant did look good up front at the jamboree, but all the aforementioned D4 teams did well against weak opponents. Just going to have to slug it out for 2, 3, and 4 in district from what has been shown so far. BRHS just has too many club players, and seems to have them organized well enough that it is unlikely they will be anything less than first at the end of the season.

getting pushed around early may not be so alarming for St Joes with players missing early on. If they are still struggling in December that could be a problem. Don't think it will matter much except for seeding purposes in Feb. Woodlawn once again having trouble finding the back of the net. Having faced a weakenned ST Michael's, Redemptorist, McKinley (in Jamboree) and University High they have only scored once while conceding four. So unless Central & Walker have improved greatly, the top four will stay the same and the other three will say next year we'll win the district. By the way one starter out indefinitely with the ankle injury sufferred earlier in the season, hope to have her back soon though as team is too thin to be able to overcome injuries.

number 2 and 3 above are interchangable Dutchtown without that fabulous English Trainer they had in the past will have to settle for fourth. Although there is is a rumor Woodlawn has been scouring the English country side hoping to get Ellen White or Jodian Clarke from Chelsea if they have any eligibilty left. This could tilt the table drastically enough to move them into contention.

This past Thursday night -- SJA 1, Covington 1, despite SJA outshooting their opponent 84-1. Covington got its goal in the 50th minute when the ball came out of the box and their CMF lifted a pretty high ball that grazed the goalie's hands. Megan Aultman got the equalizer in the 61st minute on a similiar ball. Jessica Fenner had a shot on goal as time expired, but missed to the right.
SJA took way too may shots without looking for crosses. There were a lot of long runs without looking for open teammates.
SJA will get 2 more from the BRSC U-15's in about 2 weeks. They'll need to gel quickly.
It doesn't get any easier -- @ Newman this Tuesday afternoon. All Newman did was win D-III last year.
