Tryouts are not over---According to Mike Cooper there are quite a few players who will be added to that list. Tryouts ended Thursday and the list was put up Friday. Everyone who tried out made the team. About 3 seniors tried out. Sadly, not much interest at MHS for soccer tryouts because the football team gets the glory and is headed for the playoffs. No practice on Friday so Whitaker could go to the football game at 7 pm. Next week will again have maybe 3 practices, and 3 the next week until Cooper comes out. The juniors better be good cause they will carry this team. Has a goalkeeper showed up? Can one of the Drory's/juniors step up and play goalie?

did the head coach have try outs & post the team or not?
does anyone really know whats going on?
for tylers benefit, my name is none of your business. i played for mhs when you were probably still in diapers. you need to watch your mouth before you really say something you will regrete. if you do not have something good to say about someone, then don't. your a little too young to be burning so many bridges.

Cooper has a list of players who can't come out until football or cross country ends and NOSA is finished for the fall. No keepers in the bunch.
The tallest player is Ian, a junior. Could he be a keeper? We can't wait until a day or 2 before we play St Pauls on 11/21. Besides, what does Whitaker know about training a rookie goalie? Zilch.
Nick, Brent and Tyler better take control of the team starting Monday in a leadership role. Separate the Varsity from the Junior Varsity and get some serious work done. Nick was first team all-district last year and Tyler was second team. Show that you deserve the credit the coaches gave you.
30 minute scrimmages a few times a week on a baseball field without goals are not going to get this team ready.
We can't go to St Pauls during Christmas break since Whitaker isn't being paid during his time off from school. The coach has no time to attend a Booster Club meeting, cancels practice to watch the football team, and uses his Christmas break during soccer season for himself. Can you imagine a real coach doing this?

mandy went to st. p tourney last year. they stay home, it will be another set back of 2 weeks.
get the feeling that this season is a wash & it has not even started. got to hand it to nick for staying positive.

Word is that a couple of football players want to tryout as goalkeeper.
Who knows about Bennett? One day he says no, then he says he will. It looks like his football days may be over this Friday. As least Cooper will be able to control him if he plays. If it was just Whitaker, he would tear the team apart. Bennett has a problem with trying to live up to his brother's talent as a soccer player.
Agree that the team needs to play over the Christmas break. No play and it takes another 2 weeks to get the focus back.
Keep being positive Nick. That's a big difference from last year's team. The seniors would have quit by now if they didn't have a coach. Only (blank) more days until MHS will have a coach.
At practice tomorrow, tell the Junior Varsity players to take a long hike. Playing the 9th and 10th graders in the daily scrimmage will not sharpen your skills. Work on the skills Chris Penton taught you this season.

Thank you Nick--well put and I hope that you can bring leadership to a team that will need it. I look forward to watching the team play, especially when it is up to full strength. Who are the key players who are currently practicing and who else will be coming on later who can play key rolls??? Keep it up and don't stoop to a level where bottom looks like up. Forget about Bennett--he is a head case who is 1/3 the player his brother was and is. If you could get a positive attitude, he could be very valuable, but I don't think the team has time to waste on keeping him in line. Nick---just concentrate on what you have and work it from there. I keep reading about everyone saying Mandeville is not going to be good this year. Do these people know something I don't and if they do tell us more. Here is something that you can take to the bank and you cannot refute it. Mandeville will be ready weather we like it or not. Believe me if anyone dosen't want MHS to be ready it is myself. Nick best of luck to you anr your team and see you before long.

Where do I start. First, no coaching. Only practice 3 times a week. Here is a typical practice- a mile run, and a 30 minute scrimmage. Score is kept by the seniors and juniors to see how many nutmegs they can get on the 10th and 9 th graders. No work on set plays, positions, defense etc. etc.
Can you say "u-8 practice"? It looks like everybody goes after the ball in a beehive. No spacing. No passing. No crossing. "It's me against the world."
No goalkeeper.
3 Seniors, 2 from last years varsity and 1 up from jv. Mandeville has always had 7-8 to provide leadership.
Leadership.
No excitement. Not going to St Paul Tournament because coach has to stay home.
And we play St Pauls in our first game. Some people think the Wolves are the second best team in the state. This game could get ugly quick.
Tell us more about your team, CHSLion.

Our Covington team is not a strong as last year but I feel we will still be a contender. Fortunantly for us we have 3 coachs that are dedicated to our team and plan a well rounded practice for us. If for some reason the coaches cannot be there we will have a school respesentative there and our seniors take control.
No head cases on this team. I am sure some of you will say that we have the Judice brothers and they are trouble, but they have both matured and are taking on responsibility.
A normal practice begins with the team showing up 30 minutes before practice is suppose to begin so we can get dressed and stretch so we can begin right away. Then we will do a shooting/crossing drill followed by a positions drill. PKs are soon to come and a scrimage on a small field is last to work on passing and communication.
Expect the seniors to step up this year just as last year and Mandeville good luck with getting situated.

Instead of complaining, get together with a couple of the better players and ask the coach if you can do some small sided games (3v3,4v4) or skill games. If you have played premier, then you are well aware of what needs to be done. Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution. I am sure Whitaker would be open to suggestions. As far as practicing 3 times a week, that is more than enough. How many times a week do you practice with your club team--most are twice a week. Why not follow suit? Where do I start. First, no coaching. Only practice 3 times a week. Here is a typical practice- a mile run, and a 30 minute scrimmage. Score is kept by the seniors and juniors to see how many nutmegs they can get on the 10th and 9 th graders. No work on set plays, positions, defense etc. etc. Can you say "u-8 practice"? To CHSLion: If we had Inman we would thank him everyday for being our coach. Are your other 2 coaches ceretified by the LHSAA?
We have no head cases on this team either.
Our normal practice is everybody showing up after practice starts and parking their Hummer, Cadillac or Mercedes next to the field. Remember, 100 yards is a long way to walk. Then we put on our shoes for the next 20 minutes. Finally, 30 minutes after practice was supposed to start, we begin to think it is time to warmup.
As you can see, our 2 varsity seniors cannot get the team on the field on time, much less lead us in a quality practice like Boots talks about.
Roster? Are you kidding. We are waiting for the real coach to appear on November 17, we hope.

Oh yeah, club team workouts. 2 practices a week, plus games on Sat and Sunday. That makes 4.
All quality time, I might add, with a coach and players who care.

hey, We have leadership on that team and right now its Brent and I. So dont sit here and tell everybody there is no leadership because you dont know crap. Brent and i are trying to get things rolling and we will be ready for st pauls. Right now its kind of hard to get things going at practice. We have no goals set up and we need to separate the varsity and the JV, and next week thats what we will be doing. The goals will be set up this week by tyler brent and i and then things will start to get more serious. Right now we need to get the goals up and separate JV from varsity. So dont say we dont have leadership b/c then youd be lieing.

Some of the juniors want this to happen: Nick and Brent take over the team as far as getting the team at practice on time, warm-up and stretch. Coach is there to babysit. If we waste 30 minutes, it won't bother him one bit. If players are late, make them run after practice, or send them home. That's was the MHS football team does. They don't show up late. I think its the same for basketball and baseball.
Covington Lion says they get there early and start early, with or without a coach. Somebody is leading them (maybe a Judice?)
Is there a pick up game this weekend?
Agree with you about getting the goals up ASAP and getting the young'uns off the field. You and Brent have a lot of work to do.

Looks like Mike Cooper is doing OK with Mandeville. Lost a close game to the predicted district champion St Paul Wolves 3-2, then beat both DeLasalle and South Lafourche by a combined 15-0. Mandeville indeed has a real soccer coach now!
