I know of 3 separate occasions this HS season where one or multiple spectators threatened a referee by saying "meet me in the parking lot/you'll find me in the parking lot after the game". By the way, one of the referees told this is a young female. wow. This is terrible and a disgrace to the highest degree. I try to refrain from talking about officials unless it become egregious. That’s far and few between but if a person challenged an official like this especially a female I’m getting involved. This is disgusting. Seconding this. Played a game two weeks ago where the entire opposition parent sideline was ejected due to one parent threating a referee with the premise of "ill meet you at your car after the game." Highly considering getting back into refereeing myself to help out.

All the information needed to register is posted higher up in the thread.

Doing this with my 19 year old so the bonding time is priceless. The sport definitely needs the help. Being on this side makes me realize how much I should’ve shut my mouth when I was on the other side. Wish more would realize that. Ha

The recommendation would take the pay of a three-person crew from $155 to $184. All changes have been capped at $10/official, and still leaves LA below the average rate in most sports.

I think we have problems on both sides (spectators/coaches and referees) figuring the difference between acceptable disagreement and crossing the line. People want to push too far at times and referees are too quick on the trigger for simple or very light disagreements at times.

One thing that may get overlooked in this discussion is the relationships you make while refereeing. Some of my closest and best friends came from refereeing. Hell, I met my wife on the fields of Louisiana. It’s really a brotherhood that goes beyond the pitch. If I had an issue in any part of the state, I could make a phone call or send a text to a referee friend that lives within 30 minutes of that location. Some of my weekly texts are to and from referees and the topics aren’t about soccer. They became friends for life.
Another fun part of officiating is watching the kids grow up from U-11 on up. Some of the players have even gone on to have great college careers as well as a few in the MLS. These young people kept me interested in the sport beyond the high school level. I enjoyed following LSUE and RPI recently and Maryland, LSU, and North Carolina State, in the past. I’ve even had the opportunity to see two young men that I refereed play in the MLS. It’s just another connection to the broader game that keeps you interested. My wife and I still talk about certain players from the past when describing a player or situation in todays game. She will come home and say she had a little Devin Pathumthong in her game today. I know exactly what she means!
In conclusion, refereeing has given me friends I never knew I needed. The relationships formed with other officials, coaches, and players live on well after the final whistle. Become a referee, you will enjoy it.

Hi. My 17 year old just completed the U.S. Soccer Federation Referee Program on yesterday. He has received Grassroots Referee License. What does he have to do next to be placed for game assignments. He is currently in the 11th grade and is on the St. Martinville Soccer Team. He wants to begin reffing as soon as possible.

We all groan when we all see certain referees. Hell... when I am on a three man ref crew, I groan sometimes when I see who I am reffing with. I wonder how many groan when they see you?
