I said it at the beginning of the playoffs......
Same Stuff Different Year.
D1: D3 with 2 in the semis and 3 in the quarters A surprise from D5 Jesuit wins a state title
D2: STM and Vandy are the 2 best teams Vandy wins state
D3: Stronger overall than D2 St. Louis wins state
Look back at the past 10 years and you will probably see that these hold true for 5-6 of those years.

I nearly posted the same thread, before seeing this one. It would be nice if some other teams won.

i think the only way other teams will win is if the divisions are changed... jesuit gets it a little tougher next year.. but vandy and st louis walk to the finals next year, stm moving to D1 vandy has no competition... teurlings moving to D2 leaves st louis winning another one as well... hell vandy and st louis both won the past two years with those teams in there division so it only gets easier

Who has coached the most state championships? I remember last year seeing something about the former Newman coach, Gerry Mueller, coaching the Greenies to 5 state championships.
With Jesuit and Vandebilt winning their 7th titles and St. Louis winning its 6th, have the current coaches been there for all of the school's titles?

He's been there 6 years and has won 4 state titles. Maybe not the most from those schools mentioned, but a rather impressive winning percentage.

Doug Hamilton began coaching Vandebilt in 1994, so he's won 6. I beleive John Telford was the coach in 1992.

Catholics are really good at soccer. ;D (except me) I'm curious how the state champ teams stack up as far as: Do they have coaches who are on the school faculty? How many select players do they have? Do the players play together on a select team? Do the players live within a 5 mile radius of the school?

Some schools offer "scholarships" if a player attended their school instead of their respective public school district. This is how the talent is easily shifted from public to private schools.

Well clearly, God is on their side. I can't believe no one figured that out.
I'm a public school parent(in HS, as Menard is no better educationally than ASH) and I find it unlikely that schools illegally recruit for soccer. Football or basketball, maybe, but not soccer. Now kids certainly sway their rec/select teammates to come play with them, and private schools have the advantage of no attendance zones, but the parents still have to buck up the tuition, as no one is getting "scholarships" for soccer.

No one on Vandebilt's soccer team is on scholarship. The boys at Vandebilt, who play or played premier soccer, usually start playing for the Houma Blackhawks and are usually coached or trained by Coach Joe Comeaux. They usually have to play on a combined team (age) with the younger boys having to play up a year. It's very rare to have one age group to make a team and extremely rare for the teams to make it past U14 or U15. The larger associations in New Orleans drain Houma's talent pool and the Houma premier teams can't get enough players to continue. Some continue to play premier in N.O., the rest play rec. on different teams in Houma or only High School.
Yes, alot of the premier trained soccer players attend Vandebilt, but many go to the other public high schools in the area. I think it's a testament to the fine training of Coach Comeaux who encourages the kids to learn ball skills and to compete at much higher level (having to play up a year). Coach Hamilton, at Vandebilt blends the talents of premier players and rec. players (from 9th-12th grade) to make a pretty good soccer program, being able to compete, in most years, with the best teams in the state. I do not know what other Non-Public schools do to attract their soccer players. Houma has produced many good soccer players in recent years who have played or currently play in college and alot of them come from Vandebilt. No recruiting goes on at Vandebilt, just good coaching, and the will to be successful.

In Louisiana the top soccer players are usually not exceptionally poor (unlike football/basketball where poverty is not uncommon).
These schools have a tradition of academic excellence (eg. unusually high # of graduates have ACT scores above the State Average and graduate TOPS eligible)
Parents who can afford it will follow those "traditions" for their children.
