Today, Freddy Adu, the fourteen year old sensation, signed a six year contract to play with D.C. United. The most recognized young soccer player in the world, the U.S. Under-17 National Team star turned down lucrative offers from prestigious European clubs to sign with the League and will become the youngest player in the modern era of professional team sports when he is expected to make his professional debut next season.

500 k
He is now the most paid player in the MLS and he hasn't played a single minute yet. Not bad for a 14 year old.

I also saw that Man U offered him three million more than what D.C. did. why would you turn down such a better offer by such a prestigous club.

I think it was wise for Adu to stay in the states and be close to his family by playing for DC. Plus it does well for USA soccer and MLS and that cant hurt either. He will have plenty of time to play in Europe after he is 17 years old.

I don't know why you question his age. He couldn't get allowed into the USA, get his american citizenship, enter high school, and play international soccer without proving his age by showing his birth certificate. Just because he was born in Ghana does not mean that their are no records and that his age is not verifiable.

i think it's good for him to play in the states because it will help out mls. the better mls gets the better our international program gets.

Danny Almonte also had "papers" showing that he was younger than he really was. Anyone remember him? He was the little league world series pitcher that was unhittable. Turned out he was like two years older than everyone else.
I am not saying that I think Adu is or is not 14, just pointing out that it is possible for him to gain citizenship with forged documents.

also, one more thing. Adu has been playing with players much older than him for years, now. It's not like he is gaining an advantage by beating the snot out of a bunch of other 14 year olds. When was the last time he even played with kids from his age group? Anyone know?

before he went into residency for the U-17's, he played on a Potomac MD? team and the only team that shut him out all year were the CASL elite, winners of last year's U14 national championship.

Follow the rule of parsimony in that case and your explanation of him using forged documents is less parsionious than the explanation that he is telling the truth.

USA, is that response to me? Because, I never explained Adu using forged documents.
My first post was responding to this statement:
I was just citing a case where some of the things that you said couldn't happen(citizenship, athletics, etc.), did happen. Also, I can't believe that someone as intelligent as you appear to be could think that the birth records from a third world country are as legitimate and verifiable as US documents. Have you seen those crumpled up, hand-written, loose-leaf paper birth documents that those baseball players come into the US with? I watched an ESPN special on underage baseball players from The Dominican Republic and other such areas. Forging birth records and lying about a player's age is widespread.
My second post seems pretty obvious. All I said was that I don't see why he would lie about his age, because it wouldn't even help him unless he is older than 17. But, I don't see how anyone 18, 19 or older could get away with saying that they are only 14. So, basically, even if he is lying about his age, it doesn't matter.
